As an ex-Scoutleader, I have taken large groups of children as young as eight hiking at niht. Never lost a single one of them and they all enjoyed the adventure. Of COURSE we took precautions, the most obvious of which being that the children were always beind the lead adult and always in front of the tail-end Charlie adult (usually me). We wore reflective clothing, knew in advance where we were going and maintained a 1 to 6 adult-to-child ratio sch that children were assigned to and stayed with "their" adult throughout the hike. Done properly, night hiking is not excessively risky. Hint: done properly.

All people and kids must have lighting equipment and bright color clothes in order for the driver to see them during the nighttime. Activities during late night are very dangerous. If you see a vehicle with head lights on, get off the road immediately. If you're driving either day or night, always slow down if people are still on the road

The adults were there it was not a busy street. The kids were playing kick the can probably after being told not too. I bern on alot of prayer walks/hikes even at night. Its rare for anything like this happens. They were supervised there were adults and they didnt do anything wrong0 there but stuff happens sometimes even in perfect circumstances.

They let us do that back at church camp in the mid 2000s. One girl from my church group got her foot ran over. Both situations are child endangerment

One of the first things someone needs to do when someone is caught under a vehicle is to get a carjack to lift the hot car off the person. If the casualty is caught up in the undercarriage then maybe wait for the EMS to arrive before jacking it up, but if they are clear then the vehicle should be jacked up ASAP. This would help prevent massive deep burns which can be more fatal than any broken limbs etc.

This guy should get fired having the kids go play in the middle of the road. He obviously wasn't looking out for traffic either because he never said anything. After he said he couldn't have ever imagined anything like this ever happening. He needs to be fired for putting all the kids in danger and especially for the one that got hit. He is lucky he was the parent financially or else I would have sensed a huge law suit coming.

Ill say this once as a person who runs camps you can’t focus on two kids doing stupid things. Did u watch the video closely or not? She was at least 1 and a half steps from curb drivers fault, 99% of automobile accidents are preventable. I also had my aunt that’s an ex cop take a look at it she agreed with my accusation. And he’s not you are all fools for not looking at 4 points of views , cops , parents, girl that got hit by car, and driver.

Youth groups a lot of time try to do things that kids would like to do. Of course a bunch of pre teens and teens are going to love going out late at night. Not the best decision but it should of been ok. Not like they were playing in traffic, I am sure they were walking on a low traffic road.

From what I remember reading about this, they were on the sidewalk walking. A drunk women came past, hit a parked car, lost control and ran up on the sidewalk striking the girl. They were not in the street walking when it happened. For some reason they reenact this differently and don't mention the DUI driver.

Number One mistake : where were their flashlights, Number Two some of those kids were in dark clothing, and last but not least When You see headlights, You get out of the way either by going on the sidewalk or Someone's yard, you just don't keep walking in the middle of the street !!! Not all drivers will move over !! For a Church Group, They should have known better.

There was a time back in Summer of 1997 I was riding my bike and I checked before Crossing but somehow I was laying on the hood of somebodys car my left leg was pinned between the car and my bike The guy who hit me apoligized and told me he wasn't looking where he was going had he not looked away he would have seen me he gave me 20 dollars and left Im glad all that happened was being stuck between the car and my bike.. I was afraid to ride my bike for a few weeks I just dont get how the guy could not see the Stop sign.. Also when I was in 4th Grade My Teacher said As u all see Shawn is not here because she was ran over by a car lastnight I start crying My Teacher bent over to hold me as shes hugging me she said Shawns ok I talked to her Mom, She noticed kids kind of giggling acting like What a baby hes crying , She tells them DONT U DARE MOCK HIM HES CRYING FOR FRIEND THEY ARE VERY CLOSE, I always feel teary eyed when someones hurt

My daughter broke her arm and I was in the hospital all night until the next morning while she was in surgury and laid down on the hospital floor in her room to be with her until they released her.

OK, even for the 1980's this guy is stupid. Who takes a large group of children for a hike in the middle of the night? Doesn't even look the guy had a flashlight. Kids are distracted easily and lack what adult perceive as common sense, they'll be slow to react to danger. And a car driving at night even today can easily not spot somebody. This was just begging for something bad to happen.

I was in a youth group, It is ok to be on the road and hiking , but you have to be safe. the youth group sometimes have events late at night, But they should not be in the middle of the road, but the driver should be beeping too and move over a bit as well.

I found it very sad and disappointing that these parents, a pastor and his wife, would not even mention faith, God or anything to do with Him, only the one time when they were praying. And at the end, they only give credit to the rescuers, but no mention of He who holds each life in His hands!!!

I think this is the 4th episode with a K car on it. It was a K car that was destroyed by 2 runaway boxcars. One was destroyed by a truck losing it;s load and another was destroyed in a police chase after an armed robbery. They were about the dopiest looking cars I have ever seen.

I blame the leader for not paying attention to his own troops, he is not responsible and it may cause himself trouble. His responsibility to make sure that everyone is safe, he didn't do that at all
