Just found your channel. I also have a lifetime Yukon and i gotta say that this video is a testament to how good of a kayak they really are. Those were some pretty nasty waves, and the Yukon took it and kept you inside long enough to make it to shore. A lesser kayak would've folded in that weather. Cheers from MN

Yep I’ve actually been pretty impressed with this kayak.

Not your fault my friend. If you can't get that bow pointed into the wind and waves, and get to shelter, until it passes. You're at the waters mercy. I have my AP 120, with my NK-300 on the stern, and my Minnkota spot lock 45 Lb thrust motor. I'm very big on my safety gear, for any emergency. Even if I were stranded, I'd be fine. I carry spare protein bars, water, survival kit, fire starter, small air horn. Really everything you could have. I've been caught but luckily find shelter, that's protected. I have my battery box I've built to charge everything I have. But we all learn, glad you're okay my friend. Those waves were the freaky, sideways, behind you, long and slow, but high waves.🙏 🌊 🎣 🛶

Came here looking for Kayaks in a storm and you delivered!. Why you may ask was i searching for this. Yep I got caught in a storm. My kayak only pedals. It was a storm like yours. I was fishing a protected area. Could have pull under a dock with a roof at that spot. I did not want to sit there in the water with lighting. I could have been there for hours. So dumb me decided to head back to the ramp. I had to cross 2 miles of open water. Just like your video it was rough but do able , in the beginning. Then the water came over the bow. I pulled the scuppers. Then the rudder was no longer able to steer me. I pulled off the paddle to steer. The water was taking me where ever it wanted. I live in Florida and this is gator infested water. I was not looking to go in. I one point a lost the paddle. It started to float by me and at the last second I caught hold of it. I was thinking this is how it all ends. Not such a bad deal. I was out fishing after all LOL. With what strength I had a made it in to the mouth of the creek to the launch. At that point the waves turned behind me. I surf into the ramp. There was a locked building with an over hang. I pulled up under there for the next hour. As huge lighting strikes where all around. The very next weekend I went to a new spot. I got and alert that lighting was in the area on my phone. I immediately turn around and pedaled like i was in the Olympics. I saw other guys while coming back and warned them. None listened. I made it back just in time. I waiting to watch the others struggle in. I thought I had a 100 lb unsinkable beast. These are toys when the wind and waves kick up. Have you every seen video of a house floating by in a flood. That little rudder is entire useless against the power of a storm.. Do not fool around out there. It could end very bad.

Glad to see you and the kayak made it out. That situation got scary pretty fast. I’m not a fan of big water. It just takes too long to get to safety if we have a issue in our kayak. I’ve got caught out on a lake ray Hubbard when the wind picked up around 10-15 and current started white capping. Took in water so my battery wires shorted out (no trolling motor). Had to paddle back with extra water in the hull. Took almost twice as long getting back. No storm but still scary. So if I go big water I don’t go to far from launch site. Stay safe !!!

1st I am glad you are OK. 2nd (But I will say I avoid risk) if the weather report said gusts up to 15mph, then I would not have been on a large body of water. Wind + large body of water = waves. But that said @ 5:28 you were following your friends and then said this is getting worse and you were heading back (your friends were heading about 180 degrees of your direction. Why not turn back then? @6:16 you look to be 90 degrees of their direction. This would mean you had not turned around to head back. @7:04 you can see your friends behind you and you are headed to shore with the direction of the wind. At this point, you should be committed to the direction the wind is blowing to avoid side impacts. Then @ 7:16 for some reason, you turned around and went into the waves away from land that is very close. You could have ridden the shoreline if needed. At least you would be close to land. @ 8:47 you turned around again to head back to the spot you needed to be picked up. Lots of lessons there. 1st. Avoid kayaking when the sky looks like a storm and the wind is blowing up to 15 mph. 2nd buy a larger kayak (Jackson Big Rig or Hobbie), 3rd when in a storm look for the nearest shore in the direction of the waves, and last stick with your friends and if they don't want to get back to safety get better friends. again glad you are OK.

Great comment thank you so much for responding and a lot of that Yep you’re right. The thing is I just met those guys and it was the only day they had to go out to show me the spot they were fishing. Once again I was only gonna be out there for about two hours and it would’ve supposed to be two more hours before the weather was supposed to hit. And I had no idea they wanted to go to the other side of the lake LOL my first thought was not the follow them but I wanted to be on fish UGG “Lesson learned”

@@PROAMOUTDOORS trust me, i have done a few things like that too. Anchor in current, not wearing my pfd. Now no anchor in fast current and always wear pfd. So I get it. We grow.. enjoy your videos and your hacks. Very ingenious stuff

If only the most DIY'd kayak ever had some DIY stabilizers/outriggers!
@PROAMOUTDOORS Жыл бұрын
Yeah that would be cool but everybody’s done outriggers for kayaks. The thing is that kayak is 34 inches wide and a tri- hull. It is super stable and I can stand up and walk on it. it does not need stabilizers

@@PROAMOUTDOORS I must say, your kayak is pretty bloody awesome! You've done a better job DIYing it than any other DIY fishing kayak video I've seen... and I've seen a LOT of DIY fishing kayak videos lol.

That kayak isn't meant for those conditions. You need to check out stealth or vikings, they thrive in stuff like that. Wait until you go sledding down a 6 footer when your 4 miles offshore. Great vid

wow 😲 This is a scary thing 😨 I have never used a kayak in my life and I want to buy a kayak for fishing purpose. That's why I watch KZfaq videos to get some experience. I am not sure if it is a good idea to use a kayak🤔.... hmmm

Don’t let that one episode scare you from getting a kayak. I’ve been fishing in filming out of a kayak for a while and that’s the first time that I did that in a storm. Best thing you can do is go down creeks and other places first and get used to it but make sure you buy a good kayak. Not a cheap one that won’t flip on you in rough weather. I have more kayak videos how much channel I hope you subscribe and share, thanks.

No problem just remember kayaking can be frustrating and some work. But it is well worth it. Once you catch a big fish and a small vessel makes it seem just that more awesome. Also the feeling of being by yourself just cruising along looking at the scenery. It’s a great feeling.

How true. The other guys had The Hobie pro anglers in the old town with power drive. Also I wish I could get the feel free angler 13.5 that’s my dream kayak and I have it saved if I could ever afford it. LOL

The Gospel is the Good News is that God became man in Jesus Christ; that He lived the life we should have lived and died the death we should have died...(Jesus died for our sins and the sins of this world) In our place, three days, later, He rose from the dead, proving humanity that He is the Son of God and offering the gift of salvation to all who repent and believe the Gospel. "I AM the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." - John 14:20. We are living in the last days and your soul matters. Jesus is the light of this world! Jesus loves you! 💕
