@FloridasWildest I know you’ve said that bentonite won’t work for the ponds but have y’all looked into clay blanket liners or asphalt sealed fabric liners? I would think the asphalt sealed fabrics would be sturdy enough for the alligators and I know the UF has some really great info on the use…..something to check into at least!
@PossumWrangler7 ай бұрын
Or even geosynthetic RPE or RPP liners…..which are said to be puncture resistant (although I’m not sure if they have properly alligator tested that theory)

Thank you Chris for keeping true to your dream. I can verify, Chris grew up in a simple home, with a passion for all animals. He was always bringing home critters and his Mom graciously let him turn their screened porch into an animal habitat. Chris was my sons friend and he taught us all so much about animals, even at a young age. Thank you Chris! Thank you for having a heart for the animals and building your dream rescue habitat with your own hands. Definitely a worthwhile work to contribute to!

You are both amazing. This is how animal KZfaq creators should be…educating and advocating. Love what your doing and yes it’s super expensive. I wish I was rich but I’m not. I really hope people donate and help you guys. It makes me sick seeing people donating to already rich creators or silly ones, when there are people like you, making a real difference and contributing to the world, especially the animal world. If I was in Florida, I would totally donate my time to help since I’m not financially able to help, but I live in Australia so that’s not going to work either. Best I can do is continue to watch and hit the like button. Thank you for all you do and thank you from all the animals ❤🐾

You are both amazing, As much as I love many of your peers on KZfaq, your ethos is second to none, Being based in the UK I am happy to say we don't have such an issue with dumped exotics, but many of our native species are struggling, and although I have very little myself after having to medically retire, I always give to many animal rescues and rehabbers, even if it is just artwork they can sell or auction off, and would happily extend that offer to yourselves.

And here a two people rescuing with very little money and trying to provide the best care and trying to mirror places for them to be comfortable as possible. These are good honest thoughtful people can't we help the animals by helping with monetary means so that they can provide for these well deserved rescued animals. 🤗 these animals

Love your channel and the passion. Wish I didn’t live at the opposite corner of the country or I would gladly donate my time . With the price of everything going up and out control I’m sure big projects get a little expensive. Not the best with # but construction is all I’ve done for over 25 yrs I got a lot of experience in fencing and framing and unfortunately my fare share of concrete work lol . If there’s anything I can help with just shoot me a message and if I can’t give you the answer I know a lot of business owners that can give me their opinion . Again love all that you 2 do for the community and willing to help with what I can

When it comes to concrete you'll be surprised to know it can be cheap when storms happen. They plan on a tons of concrete and it's cancelled bc of of rain but small projects " not saying yours is small but compared to roads" they could give you concrete pennies on the dollar. In Florida it rains one side of the street and not the other. So always call around non stop on big concrete projects.

Hey - re: ponds - I just happened to be watching one of Chandler's old videos: Swimming with my Crocodle. In it he's at (with?) Kamp Kenan (not familiar with that channel) who mentions he 'knows the people' to do the pond setup he has going on with the natural filtration. You were wanting pond contacts so it can't hurt to reach out to them and gather the intel on that resource, assuming it still exists. Might or might not help with concrete sourcing (I think you mentioned the concrete bottom is a requirement) but I was thinking if peeps do ponds they do all kinds or know of other liners that might meet your requirements. Hope y'all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Have you guys looked into learning how to Do it yourself for Concrete, I mean you have sand there which is an ingredient for Concrete mixed with Gravel and Cement, If you try to make it yourself you might be able to reduce the costs to Cement. What about that compacted rubber ground that they have in outdoor waterparks? I assume it has to be applied over concrete and that's not really saving $$$, but if you can get really cheap concrete, maybe that'd be a nice option for the gators?

I learned the hard way to get 3 estimates from folks who come well recommended…with pre-research online as to the average cost. I help people if I can and they need it but strongly object to folks who are less than truthful or downright right con artists. Oh.. and I stopped asking things like “what do you think is fair?” You’re not alone, lol.

Everything that we take will be a permanent resident. We are not doing adoptions or rehomes anymore. Too much time, effort, people complaining about hundred dollar adoption fees when we spent thousands on the animal at the vet, not showing up the day they’re supposed to pick up the animal. We’re not doing that ever again.

It's super impressive that you designed and built your own zoo (rescue). It would be cool to see a time-lapse or short edit of some of those enclosures being made. Is there a foundation/bottom to them etc.? I don't know if it was respect of the coatis or pride of the enclosure that I noticed at 13:56 when you were unlocking the latch. Probably both.

Well one option would be to have several concrete people compete to give the best estimate kinda like a bid it's what the city does.
