Rescuing a Converted Warplock Jezzail

This week I tackle an awesome squad of converted Warplock Jezzails. I found 5 of them on ebay for $15. They were made well, only minor gaps and minor mold lines. They were primed black, and the base coating was probably 1 coat in on the bronze. These minis were 100% a 'because they are cool' buy, and I love them lol

A "because they were cool" buy. Literally the only reason I'd buy miniatures that aren't PCs for D&D, with airsoft and pc building as hobbies I can't afford another pricey one but good gods I want some of these models

That color scheme was great. I have none of these guys, but they look like they could be fun for a paint and flip!

I feel ya. I definitely have that problem lol. I bought 2 of the new great unclean ones with the intention of selling one of them...I still have it. I also tend to start new armies just based on 1 model I got on eBay. It’s just a huge rabbit hole lol

Lol thanks! Felt weird not using it. If I were to come back to this project though, I’d do heat damage on the end of the rifle with the airbrush :)

Cool piece. A Suggestion if i may, i trick i've found for parchment writing is to do a 50/50 mix of Chaos Black and Nuln Oil, both by GW. You obtain a liquid that has both the fluidity of an ink with double the coverage power; awesome to generate extra fine broken lines in only 1 stroke.

I noticed that these had sold out from the UK GW store 2 days ago, so this is the only option right now ! great range 30-32 inch I think but a bit random

Yeah, they are sold out almost every time I look. The prices on eBay for the regular models are at a huge premium right now. $15-$20 per model, insane. They are a bit random but that range is hard to beat so if anything you’ll probably get 2 try’s before anything gets to them..hopefully lol

Does anybody have an idea where the jezzail weapon of this model was taken from? Looking really cool and I'm thinking about kitbashing some jezzails.

I wish I knew, I think, and I’m probably wrong, but I think the gun is from a Bretonnian kit.

Skitarii ranger. It’s a galvanic rifle. Just a simple arm swap.

I cannot for the life of me understand how you can make sycorax bronze work... It's always too thin, even straight from a well mixed pot for me

That’s weird, maybe I just got lucky? I’ve only ever had the one pot of it, since it’s mostly used for edge highlights. So I have no idea if that’s super common. It would be a shame if that were the case, it’s a fantastic paint, even if it’s only used occasionally.

Really like what you’ve done here. Only thing if I might be so bold, is perhaps question the fur colour? It’s that close to the bronze that it clashes more than contrasts. Maybe a darker brown, or even a black might have been better?

Thanks for the feedback! Looking at it after a few days I would agree, it needs a little more darks in the fur.

sorry just noticed your vid nicely done by the way , but i have to ask why was the armour and gun so grainy what did the previous owner/abuser use to paint them was it exterior stone paint ?

Lol it kind of looks like that huh. It’s some kind of black primer, probably cheap rattle can stuff, I’m not sure what kind. It does look kind of grainy up close, but when it’s on a table you can hardly tell.

@@eBayMiniatureRescues ah that's probably it they may have sprayed it from to far or when it was to cold either can give that affect which is fine if your doing buildings helps give them some texture but as long as its ok on the table that's what matters

One bit of constructive criticism...not a huge fan of the orange rimmed base. It takes the eye down there instead of on the great job you did on the figure. It's competing with the figure itself.

Thanks for the feedback! I agree, a black rim gives you the most contrast and will make the model look nicer, I just use colored rims for armies that I play, so all of my skaven have Skrag brown rims, just helps to keep my stuff separated on the table :)

Normally I wouldn't mention such a small miss; but because the rest of the model is brownish the bright red really makes a difference. It also helps balance the model with the red tassle on one side and the red seal on the other

For sure! I’m glad you brought it up though, it’s something I want to continually encourage moving forward because if I miss something then it’s nice to know people have my back lol. And, if I do something weird or just plain the wrong way, feedback will help me correct those issues moving forward and help anyone else who may be running into the same issues :)

What kind of thinner do you use for the GW paints?

Water mostly, sometimes if I want to go really thin for glazing or something it’s water and Vallejo flow improver.

I’m kind of a model hoarder so I usually keep them lol. But I have sold some in the past, the Lord of Plagues I did on the channel a few months ago I put back on eBay as soon as I was done with the video. I plan on doing that again but I’ve also been doing a lot of subscriber models lately so I would feel bad selling those after being given the model.
