If there’s green, there’s still life to give! Be sure you are sanitizing your pruners or scissors when cutting those roots. This orchid was left sitting in a corner for too long behind others and it became severely dehydrated. With continued care, fertilizing now that the blooms are gone, she’ll perk back up and continue giving new leaves and blooms.

My mother-in-law passed away in August 2020… she loved her orchids put my father-in-law had no idea how to care for them. A lot of them or lost but I saw your videos and thought I would try and save the last one.. end it worked… I don’t have a flower yet, but the plan is extremely healthy. When I do see a flower, I know it will be my mother-in-law, saying thank you for saving this. Thanks for your helpful videos. The help and heal more than you know.

I saved my mom's orchid(we live together and I'm the primary plant carer so i was basically rescuing it from myself), I wasn't being good about watering it, and it was in the dark, so it was doing Nothing for so long. I took it completely out of orchid bark and put it in a cup with just a little water on the bottom, moved it into the light, and now it's putting out a cute, perfect new leaf 😭 I can't wait for another spike to form.

idk if I'm just insecure (I mean I know I am) but something about seeing that even a teacher can make mistakes, and then turn that into a learnable lesson is very comforting to me, cause it makes it feel like it's both ok to make mistakes ( they can happen to anyone) and also you don't have to give up simply cause you failed a little! You can keep trying like she's still trying to save this orchid.

@@shellbreaker64 It had been in the same soil since it was gifted to me. I followed Crystal’s instructions for repotting and saw how many dead roots I had. I cut them all off and the old spike. Then when I watered, I made sure the drainage was really good too (because it wasn’t). Once a week I saturated it fully and drained it. Since that comment, my other orchid (which was in worse shape) has also already fully RE-BLOOMED and those blooms have not yet died! Good luck, fellow orchid lover! I’ve had an orchid flowering since before Christmas! It was a grocery store rescue that I picked up for two dollars, and it was in bad shape when I got my hands on it… After pruning, a repotting, and few months of love and care, it gave me a spray of beautiful white and pink flowers that have been hanging around for six solid months!

I recently purchased 2 orchids that was marked down to $7.50 from the original price of $19.99 from a grocery store. They're not in bad shape at all and they still have their blooms. One didn't have all of the blooms fully open yet. The whole table of orchids was marked down......wish I could've gotten them all.😊

@debbiethomas3687
@debbiethomas3687 Жыл бұрын
They are only picky if you haven't yet found the right place for them, and let's face it, you wouldn't thrive either if someone took you from the perfect conditions you had growing up and put you somewhere colder, darker, draughtier, and with different water and food. My first orchid was a phalaenopsis. I took it home to my cold and draughty flat where it promptly died, confirming my own belief that orchids are difficult to grow. Twenty years later I have orchids in every room, blooming away happily, from phalaenopsis to chysis. If they're not doing well in one place, move them (slowly) to another - don't just take one from a dark place to a light place, or vice versa, gradually accustom them to the new conditions and let them settle there for at least 6 months, preferably longer, unless they start dropping leaves straight away.

Underwatered orchids ALWAYS have more chances of thriving than overwatered orchids. I started watering my orchids every 3-4 weeks for a year now and these buggers started to bloom and pop flower spikes more than they used to when I watered them regularly… even their blooms are massive now. Anyway, it will take 2 weeks or one month for your orchid to have firm leaves, but I can say she looks very happy after the repot! Spray her leaves with water time to time and clean the leaves with lemon juice + water mix and cotton. You will love the results 😉
@stancexpunks
@stancexpunks Жыл бұрын
True, but I think there’s something more going on here than just being underwatered since there are so many dead roots in the center. The severe dehydration issue seen here was definitely mainly caused by the lack of healthy roots vs just being underwatered. Maybe the roots didn’t survive the repot?

Please, please, please do an update on the orchid in some time. I am rescuing one that I took from my friend. The leaves have been looking really dehydrated for weeks, despite it being watered. It has tons of healthy aerial roots that I put in the soil (orchid bark) when I repoted it. Now I am waiting to see if it comes back to life. Honestly, I thought it wouldn't take that long for the leaves to rehydrate. I repoted maybe a week ago.

I'm rescuing an orchid...also from myself 😅 I have trouble telling if it's under or over watered tho. Originally the problem was my mom was watering them even when when I asked her not to (several times) - they became wrinkly & gained dark spots. Because of that I ended up overcorrecting the problem by underwatering it. The leaves can turn yellow with over & underwatering. They'll wilt if they are underwatered & wrinkle if they're overwatered. I'm really having trouble telling the difference 😖 Right now I've been trying to just water my baby once per week as well as giving it some orchid mist. There are new leaves growing so I know it's doing well, but some of the older leaves still don't look great. I know I can't get rid of the dark spots but idk about the wrinkling. Idk. If anyone has read this far can you give me any advice?

My babies brought me a beautiful orchid on Mothers day and it's sooo tall it's almost as tall as my 7yr old. Ive never saw one like it. Ive only ever had one orchid before this and I kept it alive for a year but when I had to go in for a emergency c-section my older sister moved it from my table where it had always been to the window and when I finally came home 2.5 mths later it was dead. She thinks she knows everything about plants. She said I wasn't giving it enough sun and she put it in the window bc it needed all the bright sun. Apparently it liked where it was at since it lived in that spot over a year then she put it where she said it needed to be and it was dead within 2.5 months. Honestly at that time I didn't even know anything about plants I just had it on the table bc I thought it looked nice there lol So someone tell me do they need indirect light/sun or direct sunlight?
