How to START Honda ADV 150 with (EM) Emergency Key (ID Tag) using BLUE Coupler (English) No Smartkey? If your bike won't start check this out.
FIRST ::: Don't panic. If you can't start your bike and you're alone, the more important thing to do is remain calm. I know this feeling. It's important to deep some deep breaths and relax before you watch this video. This helps us think more clearly. Once you're ready to watch perform these steps one at a time, slowly, until you understand how to do it. You got this!

PRACTICE this procedure until you are comfortable starting the bike. I had to perform the process three times before it finally worked. The tricky part is right after the last ID number is entered, especially if there are zeros (0) in your code. I had two zeros at the end of my code (it figures) and it was confusing. Once the ID code (9-digits) is accepted remove the BLUE EM Coupler. You'll hear a buzzer sound (mine did not make the sound for some reason) and then you can turn the ignition to start the bike. Why my bike didn't make the buzzer sound is beyond me.
Again... PRACTICE this! That's all I can say. There's very detailed directions in the Owner's Manual so download a copy, print out the pages that explain this process and keep them under your seat in case of emergency.
If you don't have a BLUE EM Coupler or ID Tag (the one with a barcode) contact Honda support or your local dealer.

YES, you can practice this procedure even if your Smartkey is working fine, just keep it out of range. Doing this process will not harm the bike or mess up starting access. I was concerned out that, but it worked fine.
On your key ring keep the FOB, (Smartkey) the ID Tag (the one with barcode) and the Side Door Wrench. (It opens the seat) Store only the directions and BLUE EM Coupler under the seat. Never store your ID Tag on the bike for security reasons. If someone has the ID Tag they can start the bike if they know the procedure.

I recently bought an ADV350 in Thailand and it seems to be a very similar smart key as your 160 (except instead of the answer back function it has an alarm function). However, the manual is completely in Thai and I'm terrified of the smart key playing up on a long trip leaving me stranded in the middle of nowhere - I already had a couple of close escapes where it wouldn't start for about ten minutes until the last moment. I don't suppose that you or any of your viewers have a link to a ADV manual in English for 2023/24 model? Thanks

Yes, a few weeks back I downloaded a PDF of the version in the link you sent and it's referring to the previous model without the alarm system. Maybe in time a version will appear online for the 23/24 model. In the meantime I'm loving the ADV 350, it's a fantastic bike 👍

You can try calling a Honda dealership and ask for the service department and sometimes you'll find a person who's very knowledgeable on things that can answer any questions. I've done that several times. Just an idea. They have digital manuals from Honda and can reference anything you want. @@paulietv2162

@@Trekopolis Thanks - I will do that when I get back to Australia in a few weeks time - things work 'differently' here in Thailand - but that's compensated by the low prices you pay for bikes made in Thailand such as the ADV, Forza, CRF, Scrambler, Rebel etc 👍

I just got a 2023 Honda ADV 150 on 5-5-23 and it did come with the blue EM Mode coupler and the scooter is a blast to ride.I like your videos on it so it helped me make my mind up on getting one.

I just bought a 2024 Honda ADV 160 and I didn’t get an EM Mode Coupler like you used in your video to start your bike,where can I get one my dealer doesn’t know anything about it and neither does Honda Powersports when I called and asked about it. By the way I love your videos.

Would be nice for the bike to come with a kickstarter. What should people do if they have a flat battery. At least you can push-start a geared bike. With scooters we cant do much without a kickstart.

Hi @Trekpolis, your video was really helpful. Thanks a lot. Just have a few questions below: 1) The switch button of my adv 150 2020 currently is in locked position, is your video tutorial also applies to this? 2) Also, tried several attempt to activate the emergency code using the barcode, but did not work, also tried to use the other code given but still I fail, I carefully followed the code when I press the switch button, during the first few codes, the blinks slowly at a time, but during the 7th or 8th code, the blink of the adv becomes faster which makes me unsure whether the code that I inputted is still valid. Really hope you could enlighten how to deal with this matter. Thanks a lot in advance.

If it flashes faster than the normal, slow flash to signify a correct entry, I'm reading that there must be an input failure. Have you removed the coupler and started completely over? What's the other code you are referring to because there should be only one emergency code number on one of the white tags. Also, if you have a zero (0) for any digit to input that you wait like five seconds for it to automatically register and wait for the confirmation flash. Could it be you have a zero for one or more of the values on that tag? Sorry, I just saw your message. Been a crazy weekend.

Thanks for your video! I left my lights on, and battery drained. Now I can’t get into my seat to charge battery. I see you have an emergency key. Do you know where I can buy one? Also, is it possible to jumpstart the bike with cables and a car?

I would check with a Honda dealership and see if they can get you one. Mine came in the mail about a month after I bought my ADV and I had to research what it was. 🤔 I'm not sure if you can jump start it with a vehicle battery. Never heard anyone doing that. Might be safer to charge the battery. 👍🏼

I never got a sound and for a zero you don't press anything, just wait until it flashes and that's a zero. Not sure why mine never made a tone or sound though.

Hey, thanks for being a subscriber! Really appreciate that. Honestly, although it's a great bike, I would opt for something else if I regularly rode on highways. Top speed is around 65mph and it's a light motorbike. It's designed more for local commuting on roads that are 45mph and lower I feel. That's just my opinion of course. Totally up to the individual. I mention this in my next video so stay tuned. Should be available tomorrow or Tuesday!

When you lose your keyfob you'll also lose the emergency key and code if you keep them together.

I lost all keys, ordered a new emergency key to open seat no luck. We had to order new smart key with module and engine control module. Ay suggestions? very disappointed in dealerships in Ohio they said they didn't want to replace the parts were ordered however we did like I said order a new emergency key no luck

I found this, although I have no idea if it works: To start the ignition on a Honda ADV 150 without the key fob or code, you will need to use the emergency key. Locate the emergency keyhole. It is located under the seat, on the right side of the bike. Insert the emergency key into the keyhole and turn it to the "Unlocked" position. Locate the blue coupler. It is located under the seat, near the emergency keyhole. Disconnect the blue coupler. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position. Start the engine. Once the engine is started, you can reconnect the blue coupler.

When you say it won't... Does that also mean that when you depress the ignition switch it won't turn? My ignition switch has been intermittently not wanting to turn unless I jiggle It; even though I have the blue ring. Does this fix apply to ignition switch that will not turn?

That may be something else. I was talking about not getting the blue ring to illuminate. If it's lighting up but not turning I've never experienced that yet. Always something with technology!

The first time I did it, I got it on the first try. The second time I did it, it took me four tries. Then I found out if I pushed the bike button on the key fob, I wouldn't have to do that. I heard that if you leave your bike alone for a few days, it might not start until you press that button.

Only things I can think of is try disconnecting the blue coupler and start completely over. Make sure the battery for your bike has enough juice too. Next would be a phone call to a Honda dealer to see if they might have any other ideas.

I would think so. Worse case they can provide information where to get one or who to contact. Mine came in the mail without me even asking for one shortly after I took ownership of the bike. Apparently that doesn't happen for all owners.

I have problem to start my adv 150 today . After trying to put my number more they 20 times start. But after 2 hours I have same problems

Remove the jumper and walk away from the bike and don't have the FOB near it. Stay like 20 feet away and let it sit for a while. Make sure battery is good in FOB then try to start it later with the FOB on you. If that doesn't work disconnect bike from battery and try again. NOTE: Before doing all that be sure to unlock the ignition using the FOB by pressing and holding down on the key symbol on the FOB until you see a green indicator light. The ignition might be locked.

No, just wait until the ring light flashes and that's the sign a zero is added.

More: Using the emergency key to start the engine will disable the immobilizer system. This means that anyone can start the bike, even if they do not have the key fob. It is important to reconnect the blue coupler as soon as possible after starting the bike to prevent theft. If you have lost your key fob or forgotten your emergency code, you will need to contact a Honda dealer to have a new key fob programmed or to have your emergency code reset.

ARRRRGGGGGG!!!! my switch was LOCKED and nothing worked!!!! UNTIL i read a little bit about the flaky sensor on the fuel door..... ( and i did get gas right before i parked it for the night)... the TRICK is to gently wiggle the fuel door until the switch turns.... REALLY? I read many comments before running into this FIX... next gas stop it will probably do it again... but now I KNOW! I REALLY hope this helps someone who has a locked smart key switch!..... Don't press anything and wait until the light is flashing once. That's the indication a "0" is inputted.

Not sure, only emergency access I know of is the one I show. I suppose anything can be hot wired if you know what your doing. 🤔😂

If it's not recorded in the Owner's Manual then you'd have to call a local Honda dealer and pose that question because I never had to deal with that. My code was attached to my key fob when I bought it new!

I have to look this up because I left my scooter sit for 2 weeks... really, 2 weeks?! New "technology" is so frustrating. A battery shouldn't die after only 2 weeks as well. I'm confused about all these extra steps 🤦‍♂of entering the ID especially

100% agree. These new fangled "convenience" processes only create more issues when they cease to work. Why can't we just use a key? OR, at least have the option if we chose. It's a good concept if a person is constantly getting off and on the bike all day, but most Americans don't use these bikes like that.

@@Trekopolis I suppose I shouldn't complain too much about the key fob system. I purchased the scooter fully aware of this feature, even though it can be inconvenient at times. I was simply excited to own a 150 and overall, it's a nice scooter apart from this design flaw. It would be great to have the option to modify it to a key-only system, if possible. Of course, that would require some financial investment. Haha. Once I have better gear, I plan on riding it more frequently. Hopefully a few things go back to a simpler design and heck, the scooter should be cheaper new as well then.

They consider that little black plastic hex wrench as the "key". It came with my bike and all the other little tools. If you don't have one the dealer should be able to get one for you I'm sure.
