Good review. Your summary is spot on. Speed for city folks, Scrambler for country folks. I have a little over 1000 miles on my Scrambler 400X. It performs well on twisties for those of us who do not have the sport bike mentality and surprisingly well off road for those of us who are not true dirt bikers. Whether you get the Speed or the Scrambler plan on spending an additional $500 on accessories. The Triumph OEM upper and lower crash bars, aluminum skid plate, and center tank guard are well worth the investment to protect your bike.

Thanks Scott for your videos! I have watched several of your videos and have learned a lot from you. You have the most informative videos on this bike on KZfaq. I am 63 years old retired and would like to do some riding like you suggest. Not interested in going 90mph and just do back road riding at 30-50 mph. I have a electric bike with 100-150 mile range but am concerned about impeding traffic with a top speed of only 25-30 mph . You have almost talked me into purchasing one. Going to go by the local dealer here in Athens Georgia today and hopefully make a final decision.

Wow, thank you! I do appreciate the kind words and it helps encourage me to press onward. Running a KZfaq channel is not easy and it's very time consuming. It's one of those things where you're either in, or out and there's no in between or your videos simply won't get promoted in feeds. Anyway, about the bike... yes, it's a great machine and if you're concerned about cost you can always try the used marketplace for this bike or others that are similar. You might be able to save thousands. If the financial piece is not a concern then yes, get what you really want. Good luck and keep me posted when you decide on something!

I just wanted to add I am on the taller end of motorcycles being about 190cm/6foot something and when I tried this bike out I did not feel cramped on it. Until I turned the bars and at full lock the end of the handlebar came into contact with my knee. Fortunately both this and the PCX have handlebars and you could always raise them up a little to combat this or just tolerate it. Since how often do you need to be at full lock and are in a position where moving your leg would be a bad idea?
@Trekopolis

The price is what keeps me and I'm sure majority of people from buying one. After spending some time in Thailand they had the Honda click 160cc 2024 model for sale for about $2,000... I think for Americans to really get into these they are going to have to have the prices come down to under $3,000
@Trekopolis
@Trekopolis 12 күн бұрын
Yet Americans can drop $65K on a new midsize SUV and think nothing of it. Most of those I imagine are leased, but still. I couldn't do that unless I was very wealthy. Even then, I'd probably opt for something on the used market and save 10K-15K right away. As soon as you drive a new vehicle off the showroom floor you lose thousands. But I agree, the smaller bikes are way overpriced like anything else unless you browse the used market and find someone wanting to unload it cheap. They're out there.

For highways/freeways you need a 250cc minimum. For 5-6k you can get an entry level motorcycle that will be better suited for highways. Scooters are not bad they're just more of a niche market and America is still not a scooter country. In Thailand the honda pcx new is $2k. For Americans to buy these they will need to be similarly priced.

Do you think this ADV would work for a funeral escort service?
@Trekopolis
@Trekopolis 14 күн бұрын
Now that's a unique question. Well, it depends on the area I'd imagine. Probably not because the bikes they use require quick speed response, larger (bike/rider) visibility, from what I've seen. Just my opinion. I don't know the requirements. If I were the rider doing that role, I'd prefer something comfortable, powerful, larger, and lower seat height, and more surface area for mounting options like lights, siren, speaker, storage. Most of those bikes are similar to police bikes from what I've seen. 🤔 Great question! Thanks.
@DavidSingleton-ob5mc
@DavidSingleton-ob5mc 14 күн бұрын
Thanks for that response. The quick speed response would be within what the ADV can do. I would think it would be easier to start and stop on something automatic versus manual. Is there room to install a light on the front and back?
@Trekopolis
@Trekopolis 12 күн бұрын
@@DavidSingleton-ob5mc May have to get a little creative to install lights. People usually affix a crash bar first, then mount various lights. For the back there are options for luggage carriers that might be suitable to mount things too. Interesting concept though thanks!

I always find it really funny when people are a little more confrontational at the idea of a scooter, listing all the upsides and watch them flounder and say "well it's a little girl bike!" or something along the lines. Which I translate to a defeat. Although that mostly only happens online. I don't think I have ever talked to anyone in person who looked down on them or at least they never expressed it. Few guys seeing a small bike got really nostalgic remembering the days they bombed around on their grandfather's farm on a little dirt bike.

No, I still run on the stock tires, but I'd probably go with the City Grips 2 when the time comes. From what I've read people notice a difference riding on them. I did a quick search and it looks like you can order them online from popular places. If you have a local motorbike shop that can install them that's what I'm going to do. I don't want to mess with that. You can call around to see what bike dealers would be willing to install them and get a quote. I don't think it would be all that expensive though. Let me know if you do and how the bike rides afterwards for I'd be curious.

Great video but the oil pictured is the wrong oil for this scooter. The Honda GN4 is for motorcycles with a wet clutch. The Honda scooters should run on oil with molly (GN4M). Molly is a friction modifier and will help prolong engine life. Scooters have a dry clutch. Being this video is older im sure you have figured all this out by now. Thanks for taking the time to share this.

they don't sell in America cuz this is rich country with good roads and infrastructure and cheap gas. Other countries are usually poorer and shitty with shittier roads. No one has any money in a lot of these countries. Europe is very expensive in general. Gas is double what we pay here or more. So ppl can't afford the gas for anything but tiny cars and scooters.European roads were laid out centuries ago so they're very narrow. Not exactly suited for the latest suv in the states.

I'd say so, yes. You have to consider a bike's weight, ease of use, maneuverability, and especially shifting with a manual bike. This one I feel covers it all and I'm not just saying that because I did a review on it. I actually think it would make an excellent transition from an automatic if a person wants to ride a manual bike. Most modern, smaller bikes for that matter are not as complicated to operate as people think. A person can adjust fairly quick if they have average coordination and balance. If you struggle with physical limitations, well, that's another story and that's why they make automatics and trikes, etc. Good Luck!

Looking forward to the Husky 401, but this one is bugging me a little… love the frame, speedo, sound and the stock mirrors, but I’m not a fan of the oval gaz tank with the big Triumph decal on it. Would’ve been cool to have a sharper tank with a crest badge on it. Would a give a complete different vibe to it. If you’re looking for a new entry bike, you try to please to youngsters. I enjoyed your video about this Triumph Speed 400. I feel it would be helpful for prospective buyers to know what the actual out the door price for this bike would be. You are not able to purchase this for $5K. With dealer prep, destination, and TT&L, it is probably closer to $6500 - $7000 out the door? Depends on the fees a dealer charges. The Triumph dealer here close to where I live does not just add dealer prep, they actually include an additional $250 uncrating fee, and the destination charges are double what other charge. The reason for this is because, according to them, it costs them more than the factory listed destination fee to ship the crates back.
