Reset Mazda Traction Control & Stability Control After Battery Replacement

If you own a Mazda chances are that after the battery draining or being replaced that your Traction Control and Stability Control (TCS / DSC) lights will appear on start up. Here is how you reset the system.

Thank you!! Replaced a valve and both lights came on the TCS light went off after turning around in my drive way, but the DCS light wouldn’t go off! Thanks for saving me the worries!!

Thank you very much. After the battery died and I jump started it, my Mazda 6's steering wheel automatically jerked to the left when I turn right. And jerks to the right when I turned left. Then the TCS / DCS lights turned on. Then the car died. After I followed the instructions from your video and tried it 2, 3 times... Finally got the car to work.

Worked like a charm on my wife's 2009 Mazda 6 four cylinder. I just replaced her battery and was pretty proud of myself then when I started the car this light started blinking. Mind you I have replaced it once before a few years ago and did not experience this issue so I was really afraid that I had screwed something up (saving her a few pennies and costing her several dollars). Your solution was a life saver. Keep on sharing your automotive wisdom!

MashaAllah Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge - it works exactly as you just explained - I jump started 2012 Mazda 6 and same exact lights were there for me too - followed your steps exactly and both lights went off - I’m a single female in a new city with no friends or family - and it’s because of KZfaq video makers like you that I’m able to not feel so scared or worried - not wasting money on tows - to take me to shops where I’m afraid I’ll be taken advantage of --from my spirit I truly truly appreciate you

This is like the first thing I ever tried via youtube that actually worked pretty much as promised. It didn't at first, on my car (2010 Miata) but then as I backed out of my parking spot, the lights that had been on for a week went right out. Thanks Man

Yea, I was kind of bummed because my Uscan couldn't get a read on it, or reset it for some reason. So the next step was off to the dealer for some shop time.

IT WORKS on Miata NC 2012 even when I did it incorrectly by turning the wheel left first then right, it turned the DSC off while the TCS still blinking. Turned off and ignited the car once again, and the TCS lights are gone. Thanks B Scott

Got this surprise with a 2011 CX-7 after disconnecting the battery to clean the posts and clamps . The light went off after one driving cycle, but I still wanted to look it up and found this video. Indeed, the information is in the manual under "Traction control". On a Mazda, you also have to reset power windows and sunroof (which mine doesn't have).

hey if that don't work try your brake switch under the dash your pedal hits it. it gets tough and doesn't move. just work it back and forth. took care of the problem

Its been awhile since I've had to do it but I turn fully to the right first then fully to the left. Not sure about the reverse order.

What other things cause this? My mazda 6 2013 was towed and i got it back like 8 hours later with that light problem. Just a little suspicious because i was also wrongfully towed. Thanks though this worked for me.

I have a question for you sir . I have 2007 mazdaspeed 6 and recently had some work done . 5 days after the job was done I get a p0098 and traction control light . any ideas ?

That code is your intake temperature. Could be a bad sensor but I would start with making sure that the mechanic put all the wire harnesses back on correctly and that they are snug. Especially the MAP and MAF sensors. Next start looking at the wires for any damage such as rubbing marks. I know some of these Mazda's had issues with clamps rubbing on the wiring and causing shorts especially when the engine flexes on its mounts. Also a great and inexpensive tool to have is a USB code reader like this one on Amazon for $15. a.co/cVkGeF0 , I have this tool and once connected to my laptop use a free program called FORSCAN that is made especially for Ford and Mazda vehicles to better diagnose any codes that pop up. Hopefully it's just a simple fix.

My tcs button doesn't work and the car with sqiuiggly lines light stays on after i replaced the battery. What does that mean?

Whenever you replace the battery you will have to do this reset procedure. If this doesn't work on your Mazda you may have something wrong with your traction control and will have to have a dealer diagnose it. Before going to the dealer you might want to try pulling any codes using an ELM327 device and the program FORSCAN. FORSCAN is a free download and decent ELM327 devices can be found for about $20.
