The non-canon tie in novels written by S.D Perry attempted to explain this. Chris and Claire used to meet for coffee at this place a lot in the past and he was known for hanging out there, so she stopped by on the off chance that she might find him there or to ask the staff if they'd seen him lately.

Few problems with this... 1st, this is non canon. 2nd, She walked all the way in and saw that it was completely empty, so not only there was no one that looked like Chris there, but there was also no visible staff there, so why she went all the way in is beyond me. 3rd, she knows where he works. So, a better chance of finding him is in the more likely places (like his work and home) than the less likely places, like a donut store. If you were looking for someone, wouldn't you FIRST check with the person's place of residence and employment, BEFORE looking for the person where the person might hang out? I go to a Cafe here too. If someone were to try and find me, they'd first ask around where I live, and once that avenue is a dead end, THEN the person would go tto the cafe and ask around. S.D Perry tried, but I think Capcom themselves messed up

@@TheBengalDragon I know it's non-canon, that's why I specified that in my first sentence. Also, the assumption is that Claire has been unable to locate Chris for some time and he's not answering his home or office phone. She probably stopped by the cafe because it was on the way into town and closer than Chris's residence or the police station. As for her going inside even though it looked empty, that was probably just natural curiosity. Claire is headstrong and more courageous than the average nineteen-year-old college student, so if she suspected that something bad like a robbery had happened she may have gone inside just to see if she could offer help. Even if the scenario was written with Elza Walker in mind, then why was she going there? Just to get a donut after a long motorcycle ride even though it was already abundantly clear that Raccoon City was deserted and something strange was going on? Maybe it was a goof on Capcom's part but it's still relatively minor and nowhere near as egregious as some of the ridiculous nonsense they pulled out of their backsides for RE4 and the subsequent games.

@@silversnail1413 Well, it still doesn't make sense. If chris wasn't answering his office phone, wouldn't the first instinct be to check with other people in the office, as even they would have noticed that one of their officers are absent, so they naturally would be the first people who might have some information as to why her brother was missing. His work colleagues would know more about his whereabouts compared to some people in a donut store... Yep, Capcom did mess up. And let's not bring up Gorilla Graude, I mean chris from RE5 and RE6, and all the other absurdity that Capcom has done SINCE Code Veronica X, not since RE4. It started with CVX. Furthermore, Claire is headstrong, BUT, she is not stupid, she is not dumb enough to be the heroine in random situations that she's not involved in. She is not Asuka Kazama from Tekken 5. And... OMG, the proof of how bad Capcom are at character storytelling is the FACT that they MESSED UP with Claire Redfield. Of all people, they lost SUCH A GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY with Claire Redfield. I have done SEVERAL analysis videos on what EVERYONE GETS WRONG or missed about Claire. After CVX, she is actually showing almost all signs of suffering from PTSD and severe depression, something NO ONE ELSE has shown... and Capcom missed the storytelling opportunity with her. In reality, she is TOO GOOD for Resident Evil. she belongs in BATMAN! I present all of this and more in my videos on the matter. Just search Claire Redfield on my channel and you should see it.
