In this video we create 30 test pieces of dyed resin using household items! The first 500 people to use this link will get 2 free months of Skillshare Premium Membership: skl.sh/rybonator2
This video was sponsored by Skillshare.
I have been meaning to create a collection of Resin Samples to keep around my work space. In this case, the samples just so happen to look like little pucks! It makes them really easy to store, and because of the shape of the pucks, you can see many different angles and surface types, much like that of an actual set of dice. And for that reason, I think pucks are far superior to sheets/thin cards of resin as samples. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
This video was different than our normal videos, as I wanted to relax, and go over the entire process with you all. This resulted in a longer video, but I still think it was at least mildly entertaining. The results were worth it in my opinion, and I can see using these pucks for a long time to come. :)
We cranked upped the ante on this video however, as we were able to get 30 different unique ingredients / methods / dye alternatives in the 40 minute working time of our resin. I think that's quite the accomplishment, and my arm is still tired from mixing that much resin so quickly!
The dye alternatives that I use in this video are by no means a comprehensive list of what you can dye your resin with, simply what I I had on hand when creating the video.
The Dye Alternatives that we used in the video are listed below, with appropriate items containing a link to purchase some for yourself. Some links are Amazon Affiliate links, which means a small % of the purchase goes to support the channel, but doesn't cost you a dime:

Hey Rybonator, great video as always! One minor note, though: I wouldn't count the thermal paint out quite yet, at least not for the reasons you did. The fact that it wasn't shifting colours all the way through is likely just because you cast it into such a thick mold. I'm not too familiar with resin's thermal properties. But if I had to guess, it's probably something of an insulator. Which means that the thicker it is, the harder it is for heat to pass through its entirety. If you want to see that paint work it's best, I recommend testing it with a thinner/smaller test mold. So the heat can pass all the way through. My recommendation? Try your smallest die sizes available. Heck, maybe even Baccarat-sized d6s! That might be just the mold size you're looking for if you want to see the colour go all the way through. All the best!

0:10 "That way, from raw resin to ramen..." Ha, nice alliteration even if it's a bit absur- *sees actual ramen dice on the left* *almost spit-takes*

Using the thermal pigment to dust a mold might work well 🤔 It seems like the top layer changed pretty fast, but the orange behind it was showing through. It would be a more matte finish, but it might give more of a "magic color changing dice" feel anyway. Love the longer videos! Especially for something this packed with info.

You should use the contrast paint for a set, and add in the unicorn skin AND the gold foil. Inked in gold ofc 😌

LOVE the longer videos detailing lots of additives. And hopefully combos in the future. It's interesting immediately and will almost definitely be a video I have to come back and reference as I make more dice.

I feel like if Duncan from GW came across the video, he'd be disappointed that there wasn't a Nuln Oil puck. Agree that these longer form videos are nice to see and learn for those starting off, and give little nuggets of information that are more general info, but not enough for a full video. Thanks for the inspiration!

I’ve liked these longer videos lately, so I’d say keep the length at whatever is necessary. As you alluded to early in the video, I was definitely getting some Peter Brown vibes here!
