Resin Mold For Tattoo Skins Or Medical Simulator Applications

In this tutorial we explain the process of modifying a CopyCat silicone lifecast mold for pouring a 5110F silicone pattern. We then used the silicone pattern to make an ArtKast White resin mold. The final negative resin mold can now be used to cast 5110F or 5130F silicone positives backed with Prop Foam 4 flexible foam.
We used ArtKast resin for this mold as it is fast and easy to thicken with Poly Fiber...it is also compatible. Make sure all the materials you use for a process like this are compatible or there will be severe and profound sadness!!!

okay the idea of a truly tattooed sculpture just sounds so amazing but fact that it would kinda feel like real skin makes a bit too serial killy for me lol.

Resin skull with sand for weight, lifecast head/face, tattoo, maybe root some hair, mount on the wall like a hunting trophy? 😂 If you’re going to give serial killer vibes, might as well lean into it. I wonder how tattooing the color into silicone would differ from painting it… In terms of effect, I mean.

You mentioned that the polyfill is inert, and you can add as much as you want. You also compared it to thickening with fumed silica. I can’t find any tutorials on fumed silica from you, though. Am I just missing them? I’ve found other channels talking about using it to matte dolls, but I don’t know about its other properties. Or actually how to use it safely in my current work environment. I’ve just been waiting for it to warm up enough to use my garage (since I don’t think platinum silicone will cure at 45F-you recommend not going below 65F, right?)

I don't have any tutorials on fumed silica. It is inert, but a huge breathing hazard. If you are careless with it you'll be breathing like a retired coal miner in no time! PolyFiber is a larger particle than fumed silica so it doesn't suspend in the air like fumed silica. If you ever go into a fiberglass shop with poor ventilation, when the sun kits the shop right, you will see the air sparkle. That is death in the air! As for Platinum silicones, below 65F your are going to start having cure issues against surfaces that had no issues at 75F.
