Despite the uncertainty over the content of Prince Harry’s forthcoming memoirs, King Charles is determined to reconcile with his younger son, according to a leading royal author and broadcaster. Speaking on our royal talk show Palace Confidential, Katie Nicholl says that the issue is a priority for the monarch for a number of reasons. ‘The rift at the heart of the royal family is no secret, we see no signs of a real, long-term reconciliation, although I’m told that it’s very much on the King’s agenda,’ she says. ‘He knows that a royal family has to be a united royal family. That’s important for him on a person level and it’s important for him as the king. And I think we saw evidence of that with those olive branches that were extended to Harry and Meghan [recently].”

Harry is owed titles for his children? Could someone please explain that statement -- I thought that a British royal title meant you were expected to serve the Crown -- your monarch and your people. How can Harry's titled children serve the Crown from California? Especially when THEIR PARENTS DON'T EVEN SERVE THE CROWN. How will they learn about the traditions, history and culture of the UK and the monarchy itself? You expect Harry and Meghan to teach them when they obviously have no grasp of the subject themselves. I always thought that being titled meant restrictions; isn't that why the Danish Queen removed them from her grandchildren, who were not properly restricting themselves and observing the protocols. Isn't that why Meghan wanted to leave the UK, because she could not take the restrictions? She can not abide the restrictions and now she wants, no, is begging for, those restrictions for her children??? Are you not suspicious of this Ms. Nichols? I have lost all respect for Nichols -- Harry is owed titles for his children -- WHAAAAAT? After the lack of respect he has just shown towards your country and your beloved QEII???? He lives in the United States, where the only people who get to keep their titles are former high-ranking members of the military and former politicians. Being royal only gets them publicity. If they desire privacy, why do their PR people insist on referring to them as Duke and Duchess if they never visit the Duchy they rule?

Queen Elizabeth's Letter Patent of 2012 stipulated that only William's children would be titled, Katie not doing the research AGAIN. I would have liked to have heard an apology for the fact that the Sussex Squad have made a lot of noise about her comments on George telling another child "my dad with be King", he is a 9 yo, kids should be off limits, a lot of people on Twitter will never buy her book, her name is mud.

@@hartubmoses6645 They have essentially monetized them by insisting on using them in their commercial endeavours, not something they should be doing. The Queen stopped them to some extent in the beginning (when they tried to globally trademark "Sussex Royal" as their branding) but they still kept up in other ways by using their titles constantly everywhere they could when doing business. Royals are not supposed to use their titles for commercial gain but they continue to do so. Even Meghan's children's book has simply "Meghan, Duchess of Sussex" for the author on the front cover... they use them to make money and stay in the limelight.

What do they need titles for? Their parents chose a life outside the royal family. Anne's children aren't titled. They manage just fine. What would they be prince and princess of? They are being raised in California, away from royal duty. That's what THEY wanted!! How would that make any sense?!

He canceled attendance at a memorial service for the Royal Marines to attend THE LION KING PREMIER and was caught on video pitching his d-list wife for acting work with Disney. 3. He publicly backed his wife's claim they were married 3 days before the wedding at St. George's Chapel thereby forcing THE ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBURY to issue a public statement that he had not done so because if he had it would have been against the law! 4. Harry lied that QEII had known about and supported the naming of his daughter Lillibet when in fact he only told the Queen he was going to name his daughter "after her". (An awful and hurtful thing to do to his grandmother while she was still morning the death of her husband of 70+ years. I could go on but I will invite others who read this to add to the list - Start at #5 and lets give maryh9569 what she asked for! 3

I saw an interview with Charles years ago and he said the thing about him becoming King would mean his mother would have to die. I'm sure it wasn't a pleasant thought. With Archie and Lili growing up in the US there is no need for them to be Prince and Princess. Like Princess Anne, the children will have to live normal lives and get jobs when they get older.

Prince George's parents are now the Prince and Princess of Wales. The Duke and Duchess of Windsor were what King Edward VIII became titled after abdicating the throne in 1936 to marry Wallis Simpson. Prince George seems so quiet, introverted, and shy to behave in such an impish way. I just do not believe it.

The children should not have titles if there is no proof of existing or parentage. The parents stepped away from monarchy have no right to titles as a consequence. Common sense. Part of family yes, part of monarchy no. No royal business should ever be spoken around those that leave especially as they have proven they cannot be trusted. The year they were given has passed. Very sad situation, they did not give their relationship a chance to see if they could endure life of hard work being a royal. This family that most everyone looked up too has been torn apart and not just the family- they have crushed the entire country that loved and adored Meg an Harry all for money and power. With everything they have said and done all can see they think they are entitled for everything to be just given to them. The children ? If they exist ? If the children live in the US- they do not need titles. They will just grow up entitled and probably bratty Hollywood kids. There’s no need for titles and I thought that Megan did not care about titles per her interview with Oprah. If the title of Prince implies a life of service, it seems Beatrice and Eugenie should not be titled Princesses any longer. This would lend consistency to the idea that Harry's children and all other royal children born of second-born or third-born princes, etc. not be given those titles. Lesser titles, Lord, Lady, etc.

Easy to fix the title issues going forward. The succession for female was changed but did not look back to adjust Anne’s position. Therefore Beatrice and Eugenie should stay princesses. Going forward it should be made clear a title is only given for service to the Crown.

He thinks it's the decision of an individual but it's not, its decision made by a committee called RAVEC. There's a suggestion that he thinks that if he gets HRH, and the kids become prince and Princess that the security issue would be solved.

H&M walked away from the Royal Family, away from the UK, and away from the British public who fund the RF. They allegedly wanted to be free from it all. So make them stand by their choice. For the British Royal family to survive after the death of the Queen, there must be massive education on royalty for both massive and member themselves. I.e how it works, who is viable for titles and who is not. Who are those to serve or not. The ignorance of Harry and Meghan especially Harry about his own family's tradition is embarrassing to say the least. It's as if he doesn't know the consequences of so many of his actions.

Meghan already was setting up deals with Oprah and etc... before the wedding.... Prince Harry could always take up American citizenship- unfortunately he would have to renounce his father( as his king), title(s) and his diplomatic passport- which are very nice perks -he & his wife feel they are in competition with the “working royals”- they made choices as adults-

Resolving the Harry rift would be being firm and courageous to follow Queen Margrethe's decision and remove the titles of non working royals and permanent removal of all support to non royals who decided to leave the RF because they no longer wanted to be serving the Crown and the monarch! They also chose not to return to the RF so they are no longer royal or have any connection to the RF!

Harry owed Titles??? Not really,when Charles is considering reducing the size of the funded Royal Family. Exclusion based on being a non-working royal, domiciled abroad in a Republic! Children resident abroad and one not born in Britain, makes a mockery of theHonour. Not really a viable or valid reason to hand out important and respected Titles/positions. If Charles thinks he can influence The Harkles with Titles for their children, then he is taking a dreadful gamble with the Nations respect and sympathy, not to mention the very future of The Monarchy and William & Kates dutiful commitment to the people of the uk. Harry needs to make up his mind. He and Meghan Markle wanted a quiet normal life and I suspect she convinced him to step down. I understand he sacrificing his ties to the monarchy for his wife but you just can’t go flit back and forth. Either you work as a Royal and fulfill the obligations and duties or you put it past you and start a new life for the sake of your wife. I’m sure she couldn’t handle the demands of being in the royal family. It’s actual work rather than the fairy tale she read in books! Nevertheless, at this point, if the two of them demand titles then expect to fulfill the work to earn the titles. The people of the United Kingdom are the taxpayers who pay the royals and their money is toward paying the expenses to carry out the representation of the people by the monarchy. Why would the people in the UK want to continue paying Harry and Meghan while they live in the US. They are not royals any longer who represent the UK. Now, they are just considered Harry and Meghan Mountbatten-Windsor, a couple who immigrated into the US. There are no more expectations of titles anymore. It is quite shameful of them to carry those titles to cash out on their notoriety but at the same time they break rules by making public opinions especially in the US government which is against the rules of the monarchy. When they use their titles, you are connected those titles which originated from the monarchy in the UK to express involvement in politics. That is totally against the principal of the British Monarchy. Harry obviously is divided but he has to make a final choice and accept that choice.

I wish the King luck but I don’t think there is much hope of a nice cozy family relationship with Meaghan and Harry. There isn’t any percentage in such an outcome for Harry and his wife. All the fractiousness feeds the need for those two to stay in the spotlight. I think they thought they could go to Hollywood and instantly take their place on every “A” list and that hasn’t really happened at all. If they cannot keep themselves in the limelight with their endless whining over how terrible the RF is then what else is left for them. They certainly aren’t willing to put the work into being working and active members of the Royal Family, they have made that plain.
