Im about to get the new Omnia 9. I recently bought a new soundbar complete with Dolby Atmos. I have never had hearing aids before. With the 360 deg feature and the assessment of the soundscape what listening experience should I expect when wearing the Omnia 9 devices? Without hearing aids I found that turning up the centre speaker helped me to hear voices better and there is also a soundbar app which can adjust for better voice and speech sound. Im hoping that with the new Omnia 9 I will be able to listen to my Dolby Atmos system and hear the surround sound like I would without hearing aids, i.e. a fully immersive experience including directional sounds to match the action on screen.

I was going to get ReSound One 9 but after my appointment to pickup the hearing aid my audiologist told me that they were able to get me the latest hearing aids from ReSound which is the Omnia 9 rechargeable Bluetooth compatible hearing aids with the metal ear hooks. I also go the multi mic as well for it. He told me the ReSound smart 3D app should show my multi mic when it’s connected to my hearing aids and it did not. Do you know if the multi mic is supposed to show up in the app as well?

Hello! I purchased Omnia 7 rechargeable in Jan 2023 along with new iPhone 14 plus. Had iPhone XR which did not support hands free calling due to which has to purchase 14 plus. In the last two to three months, my hearing aids auto restart whenever an audio call or WhatsApp audio or video call is terminated. This has been a big headaches. HAs were sent to service Center to diagnose the issue but in vain. Issue symbol persists. Can you please help me fix this issue? What should be done?

I just got fitted for Resound Omnia 9 with M&RIE receiver. My audiologist is loathed to try anything but a closed dome because of the likelihood of feedback at high freq. At 500Hz I'm less that 20dB loss but quite a steady slope down past 2K to around 60dB loss at 8K, so all the amplification is at higher frequencies. The occlusion I get however is not really tolerable. Coupled with the noise reduction capabilities of the Omnia and it often feels like Im just walking around with my fingers in my ears and worse when I speak. I tend to wear the dome deeper in my canal which alleviates some of the occlusion but this can become uncomfortable and sore. My audiologist would certainly prefer that I wear the dome a little looser and not so deep which can exacerbate the occlusion. I play acoustic guitar and record music whilst singing along so 'hearing' more of my natural voice would be better but I'm conscious of losing true harmonics with hearing aid set up. Have you experimented with a more open dome style to get a solution which lessens the occlusion to a more tolerable level but doesn't cause too much feedback? I know that the Resound TrueFit SW recommends the closed dome for my script but some venting must surely be possible. I don't want to move away from the M&RIE receiver either as its ability to help with identifying spacial queues and the direction a sound is coming from is really good. However Im told that as the mic is in the ear vented domes are a sure fire way to induce feedback.

It would seem like you are better off with a open dome for your loss because you have good low frequency hearing, although your loss is moderate at the highs. So that being said, you can be prone to feedback, which is probably why you’re recommended a closed dome,.. Is the dome the proper size or shape, sometime the physical structure and size of the some can be the factors of occlusion too,.. maybe you might want to try earmolds? If they fit properly and the vent is the proper size you shouldn’t have feedback. Otherwise maybe try a different shape or style of domes? With that,. ReSound is not really a brand I’d recommend after trying it myself. It’s such fake advertising in their technology and they aren’t good

@@kaylasmusic Thanks, I went back after trying different styles and sizes of domes and we did a refit with open large domes and sports locks. The recalibration was good and the DFS took care of any feedback. The REM measurements gave an excellent curve match to my loss curve. I’ve settled on All Around, Music, Outside and Restaurant. Music is great for watching my Atmos equipped home theatre too. I was also upgraded to the Mini 9 which fits nicer behind my ear with glasses. We are now just trying Soft Switching vs 360 All Around to find my preferred option for everyday use.

@@allanpennington I only use molds because no domes fit me and i don’t like the feel of domes, and also my loss is not suited with domes and most suited with molds. I went with Widex because they are known for the best sound quality especially for musicians. ReSound claims to be natural sound but its not. I have spoken to several people and audiologists about this who have tried both ReSound and Widex and they ALL say Widex is best. Some people like the ReSound but I had no luck with ReSound. Also my audiologist was not able to add a music setting for me and it doesn’t come with it, and I like the Recievers embedded into the mold which ReSound doesn’t seem to have much options for that.

@@kaylasmusic Thanks that’s very interesting. I play guitar and sing and play around with recording and Logic Pro. I’m in New Zealand where the predominant retail model is buying your hearing aids outright. However the provider I went with has a very good monthly subscription with free consumables and in person support as much as you want. Plus they only offer the 9 series Omnia. It’s only NZ$90 a month. The other provider I tried offered a three year old Oticon which had been superseded twice by newer models at a cost of NZ$4000. That is an entry level aid too with minimal adjustment capabilities in fitment. A bit dodgy too but at the hearing test the provider let me try the $10k one and then said great will you commit to making a buying decision today? Much like a car salesman! The $4k cost I would have had to pay upfront. So it was partly an economic decision for me as I live on my Army disability pension. I could have got an interest free advance to pay a lump sum, but now they just pay the subscription as it’s actually cheaper annually. Yes there is always going to be ad men who get involved in the marketing and sales of competitive products. I have read the Resound White papers regarding some of their claims and yes they are measuring under the optimal scientific conditions like using experienced users with power domes. They should really have a caveat on their promotional material which says experimentation done under optimal conditions. Anyway with this subscription model there is no contract, no early get out fee etc. it’s pretty simple and you can opt out anytime. However I’ll give Widex a look.

@@allanpennington Ya, I sing and play piano, ReSound gave me a really hard time with it, and i couldn’t even get a music setting for some reason. Did your audiologist have to make your music setting from scratch? Or did it come with built in manual setting? Also, this is inly my personal experience but if you like ReSound, why switch… Yes, I recommend Widex, but i only switched because i had no luck with other devices and i always knew that Widex was the only manufacturer there really focuses on musicians. Also see what your audiologist is best at fitting.. I had to beg my audiologist so hard to let me try widex and I tried almost all 6 manufacturers. I only never tried Oticon or Signia, although Signia is just like an off brand of Widex ive heard. Again, this only is my personal experience with ReSound but see what you and your audiologist feel like is best,.. although what I hate is that audiologists sometimes just talk about devices like a commercial when they haven’t even worn them,.. there is not enough audiologists that are heard of hearing or have experience using hearing aids, let alone as a musician,.. so i have learnt really just trust my own research and experiences to know which devices to go with
