Restaurant GM here. My two greatest joys in life are making my customers happy and kicking them out when they disrespect my staff. Keep fighting the good fight 💪 Edit: to the people below who say "customers come first and your staff are there about to serve," I encourage you to read "Unreasonable Hospitality" by Will Guidara. The #1 restaurants in America consistently put their staff's needs first, and excellent customer service follows from that. Great book with solid wisdom.

@@professorlegacyI had a GM I had next level respect for because of this attitude. Take care of your staff and they'll take care of the business, customers included. @oginza Well, well, I see you've graced us from the Realism Dept. Here's a real-life story: once there was a governor of a mid-western State who flirted with the draconian side of Covid lockdowns. One of the "New Rules" was NO BOATING, which, of course, we State Citizens weren't too happy about. But in the spirit of "We're all in this together!" we sucked up our pride and our urge to fish and bore the New Rule with (relative) patience. Until one day, a certain man approached a full-service boat dock and attempted to get his boat out, to take a brief pleasure cruise - a few moments' relief from the Covid doldrums! The worker in charge of the dock said, "No, sir, you aren't taking this or any boat anywhere." The man answered, "Do you know who I am?? I'm the State governor's husband!!" The dock held their ground, and made sure the rules were enforced across the board. The story also attained quick news status. Now, here's the thing. Hubby was right. There wasn't a good reason at all why he couldn't or shouldn't use his boat. It was a stupid rule. But the crux of the matter is that he was willing to support his wife's unreasonable rules for the rest of the State, but not abide by those same rules himself. Not incidentally, the governor herself violated some of her own rules too - different ones (masks and gathering sizes, as I recall), but the same principle applies. Both husband and wife were and very likely still are hypocrites. Is it any surprise that birds of a feather flock together?

@ashleyhoughton85928 ай бұрын
I had a customer once lie about an order, it was pretty simple, they ordered a big meal over the phone and didn't ask for no tomato on something, then came to the shop with a tomato with a big bite out of it saying they were allergic and I could've killed them, and that they expected a refund for the entire meal. Like A - you bit the tomato and you aren't in hospital, you aren't allergic B - it's dead tonight and I'm the only member of staff, I took took your order over the phone and made every part of it, and it's the only thing I've made in the last 40 minutes. And C - you are more interested in getting a full refund for your whole meal instead of the medical fact that you would've died if you weren't lying... tf outta here. I told my boss, and she said he came in the next day with the same story and after a while of patiently listening and taking my side eventually she lost her patience, told him to fuck off, and went through the previous nights phone record to find his number and black list it 😂.

Funny how you're bringing up how this isn't "real" when everyone else here seems to think this is a scenario that could play out in real life lmao. irl there wouldn't be a round of applause neither. The other guests would just be confused as to what just happened and wondering why the chef is having a hissyfit. Since nobody there would have heared the conversation. And then they'd probably never eat there ever again because *gasp* people like to dine without Chef's making a "scene" in the middle of the restaurant. There's a reason why real life bussiness people don't act like this and let emotions get the better of them. They'll only end up hurting themselves and their bussines. Sure, he might have gained the respect from a "waiter" (who'll quit her job and move onto something better at some point anyway) but respect from his staff isn't gonna keep his bussines afloat. Apart from that the Chef in this case is a hard drug addict. So he loses by default. The patrons will go home and tell a funny story and the chef will go home and stick a needle in his arm.

Very few people do on going business without respect. Morality is a world’s best money maker: ever heard of church? Folks who are socially inept and are too scared or fragile haven’t done the basic work of reflecting on whether hurting people’s feelings is 99% of the time undesirable. A restaurant visit is a transaction and respect is expected. If it isnt given, we kindly explain why we were offended or injured. Usually that’s enough to wske them up back into the fact that we are all human. If this is received badly we usually ask them to leave and seek other establishments in the future. This has happened only approx 5 times in 10 years. Business without respect is willful self destruction
