Dope Snow is a ski clothing brand that has experienced a huge rise in popularity. For new skiers and snowboarders the, brand has created stylish, affordable and quality clothing to enjoy the snow. However some of the snow community have criticised Dope Snow for its products claiming they are cheap and poor quality. In todays Bramski video, I respond to the Dope Snow criticism. Do you agree with the negativity?

I’ve been through Air Force survival training. I know quality gear and key features that you want. Dope and Montec produce better than average quality and great styling at the price point I want to pay. If I was planning an Antarctic camping expedition, I would probably go with a more expensive brand, but for a day at the resort, this checks all my boxes.

Its lasted really well, the only degrading of materials I've experienced was with a montec jacket I bought 4 years ago, which after heavy use I got caught in a rainy day on the slopes and did not dry it properly - which was my fault. Glad I moved to Dope Snow though because I prefer the designs and range of movement with the gear.

Honestly, couldn't disagree more, my main reason and many others reason also is due to the fact the kind of tried to force themselves into the culture and identity of snow sports without putting in any work. Honestly idc what people wear, but like that's why I wont support the brand. I think a good example of this is Burton for example who host contest and gives out prize money to competitors, they have a history of snowboarders. You can't fake history and I think that's why they're a fine clothing/outerwear brand, but tend to rub people the wrong way who have been invested all these years. I do think the Dopesnow/Monetc hate train is a little out of control right now. Where its cooler to dislike it because its Dopesnow and not the reasons above.

i think the hate comes from a corporate company getting into the snow industry and taking the $$$ out of the smaller companies that are actually focused on the progression of the sport and not trying to get clicks on Instagram. A good example is when Nike came into the skate shoe industry, a lot of skaters were against the corporate aspects, How many people watching this video have heard of the snowboard brand D.O.P.E, a small company based out of Whistler BC that is run and operated by snowboarders, that's the D.O.P.E y'all should support

I have a $100 dope snow hoodie and I like it. I also own two sets of Burton [ak] gore-Tex snow jackets and bibs, which cost more than $1000 per set if you don’t have any discount. I will say for most people who don’t ski backcountry or frequently experience damp and wet conditions (like in whistler). A dope hoodie is more than enough for snow sports, especially for those who have limited budget. Investing in a good pair of ski/snowboard boots is a better option. 😂

I also am a big supporter of the local community, hence the cricket jersey ;) I have bought most ski gear locally with the exception of clothing because there is very little choice in the middle price band. Its usually either North Face or Arcteryx which is the highest quality, which I can understand given the terrain we have here. But its also the highest price, and for young adults who are trying to live in a ski town...if you can get a similar quality product for much less then its a sensible choice to make.

In my opinion after skiing with dope gear for 4 years (pants, jacket, goggles and helmet) is that i can say that people are hating because of how big theyve gotten in the short amount of time. It is affordable (roughlt 200-300$ for a jacket), it is durable (i do both amateur park and offpiste) and it is very comfortable. When i used Everest pants before they were way more constricting of the rip. I am in no way the best or worst skiier, ive been skiing for 15 years and i dont find any difficulty in 99% of the slopes. Dope hands down has the most fun/coolest gear (except maybe Burton or Harlaut). A lot of people somehow don't realize that all brands out there are cash grabs. They all have bosses and shareholders to answer for. All the so-called "giving back to the sport" is basically a part of the marketing funding that goes into the sponsorship campaigns or the competition campaigns. At the end of the day, they are not charities and they are all in it for the money. We need to stop over-glorifying leading brands as in they are doing us a service and not running a business. I have been in the sport for 15 years now and I am still wearing a jacket from the mountain warehouse, because I cannot justify paying a premium price tag for jackets like the Burton AK. Are they in better quality, sure, but like most amateurs out there, I just don't need to pay 500 bucks for a jacket. I would rather use that money for a season pass.

The core of the problem is the incredible deterioration of trust that people have in influencers now. People have wised up to the fact that most influences will hock any crap so long as they get their cut. It's almost impossible to find an unbiased professional review of dope / montec gear, because its DTC only and the only content creators who have the gear are the ones getting paid. People are pretty over the whole drop shipped china product pushed out by content creators thing, most people deep in the sport avoid that kind of gear out of principle. This is what leads to dope being for bad riders, as newbies don't know any better. This is the first video of yours i have ever seen, and you seem like a good dude, but just a point, honesty is the core issue with the creator space and when creators (yourself included) say stuff like "i don't get paid by dope snow i just get all this free gear every year" its not exactly honest. You are being paid, you are paid in gear. Maybe they fly you out to head office once a year for a nice junket to check out the new seasons gear, wined and dined and staying in the Alps. All that sort of stuff is payment. All that sort of stuff for a channel with 2,000 subs. Would you really turn that down if the gear was bad? I rock the same burton jacket i bought in 2009, its still good. Will dope hold up that long? Nobody knows, but i bet most of their creators would tell me it would if it got them a new jacket next season.
@BramskiVlogs
@BramskiVlogs 5 ай бұрын
So none of your ski clothing or ski/board gear is made in China or Eastern Europe? Respectfully, I disagree that its dishonest; in every product video I make sure to disclose exactly the transaction I have with the brand. Sending a care package or vouchers is not the same as a 'paid video'. I've never had the fortune of being paid for a video yet but I imagine it would come with some directions from a brand on what they want to see in a video. Whereas with the current partnerships, I feel I can be as honest as I want in the reviews. I am under no obligation to post multiple long form content about Dope Snow, this might be the first one this winter but it was my choice. I knew about Dope/Montec before I ever began reviewing their gear. I bought a Montec jacket years ago but thats how I discovered the brand that I liked. The collaborations came afterwards. I have turned down other clothing brands and ski products yes. I'm not going to tell you that their gear will last x amount of time, but I will tell you in the 3 winters I have been in Revelstoke the gear has dealt with the harsh conditions really well. But thats just my opinion based on my experience.

@@BramskiVlogs so you can say it’s not the same as payment but literally every ad standards board in the developed world, the FTC, the UKs CMA, the EUs CEC, the Australian ACCC, literally everyone says influencers receiving gifts counts as payment. And yet we still have influencers standing up, claiming it’s an unpaid unbiased opinion and then wondering why people don’t trust them. I dunno bro. Wonder why.

This a lot. Being semisponsored and then giving an "honest review" has zero credibility. I've heard both sides from genuine users. Others have had their gear last 3 seasons fine now. Other have had rips in seams and zippers on the first season. But just looking at the site and prices. It's common sense that you can't have 87 different style and color combos in high quality for the price. People can wear what they want but getting super defensive about it when given valid critique is just cringe. Also getting hung up on the "you don't know what you're doing" and then going "look at the kid doin 1440 wearing dope". Yeah.. the kid who gets new gear from Dope every season. He doesn't have to think about how long it lasts. Also it's lazy. You can get high quality gear at the same price at the end of the season or between seasons sale. People can wear what they want and hopefully just enjoy skiing. But calling Dope high quality skiing gear while getting gear for free or vouchers to buy them is just blowing smoke..

What i find so interesting is that people think its ok to put down individuals based on their choice of ski wear. Skiing is expensive to begin with. Many people want to experience skiing once in a lifetime or maybe every year, but either way they do it for the shear enjoyment of it, not for the fashion. Yes, we want good quality, but its a personal choice. If it serves your purpose, wear it. Clothes in no way define a persons ability. I love still seeing the 80's gear on the mountain, there's still some people in Revy that have the thin skis its great to see them still going at it!
