Good luck with everything anyway if you're still around. Each one of us only lives once in this world and when random person puts up a video and another finds it and benefits from it several years in the future, that's a miracle.

Another one of many pet peeves are people who walk into the lobby - after hours - after being god knows where and they see me and ask if I'm the manager. I'm wondering " Did something happened in the motor lobby with the valet that's prompting this question?". They haven't even gotten to their room so why are they asking for the manager just walking into the lobby? Usually it's something they ALREADY mentioned to a previous shift but they want to rant and rave about the issue AGAIN with me or any new face they see and waste our time. Sometimes they walk in from outside and tell me as they pass the desk how they have a clogged toilet or need towels or toilet paper. I'm like "I'm confident you had these issues BEFORE you exited the hotel!! Why didn't you say something then?" Now when housekeeping and maintenance are gone for the evening, they want to burden me with these requests. I'm wondering if they don't want anyone in their room when they're not there. But then I'm sure they exit the room when housekeeping is performing their function.

Doing breakfast where I am would be a nightmare. There are a 194 rooms at the property and it is a full service hotel with a in house restaurant. Basically I allowance any promotional meals and do a lot of paperwork throughout the night. In addition to any late check-in's I literally sometimes run around like a chicken with my head cut off fulfilling guests requests and needs. Walking is a joke because the hotel(where I work) is responsible for their transportation if they do not have a vehicle, and in addition paying the nights stay at the other establishment, at our hotel we do not even take payment at our establishment so the entire situation is not as bad. Really wish I had a second night auditor gets kind of overwhelming at times.

Hmm! As a layman watching this I guess I've been wise to book directly or use the given hotel chain's corporate to book.

My personality is always a hinder in these kind of jobs... I've never done this job and at 37 I'm way behind my collegues who trained me for roughly 2 weeks. I hope minimum wage in my country could exceed 4 bucks. Thats about 2 dollars. I'd give anything to earn between 8 to 10 dollars. I arrive to work at 9 to 10pm earlier just to prepare and collect reports on eftpos machines at various outlets upon closing so I can beat the time and complete my work and assist with other tasks. Its difficult to fall asleep if theres alot to do at night. Cleaning your workstation, setting wake up calls, preparing invoices for checkout guests, filing, ledger checks, assist guest with luggages for early check outs or check inns. Paper delivery if the bell boy runs late, respond to fire emergency alarms and more. Night audit is ideal for people who enjoy quiet an minimum supervision.

Just know that any mistake you make can be reversed or fixed. Focus more on being nice to guest cause those can not be reversed and can really get you in trouble. If the staying up all night is hard. I drank a lot of water so I would have to go to the bathroom a lot and that would keep me awake.

I started as a night auditor, 2 months later became the agm and 9 months after that I’m now a GM. I think there’s a lot you can do but choose not too. How about walking the lobby and disinfecting the hotel, laundry, safety walk... set up breakfast. There’s so much!
@nightowl54752 жыл бұрын
Also, there are other things she can do at night too. For example, there may be painting that needs to be done. The roof may be to be repaired. I’m also concerned about repaving the roads. I like the idea of having the Night Auditor put down carpeting in the hallways too. Listen, I always tell my Night Auditors, just because I pay you $7.00 dollars an hour, doesn’t mean I’m not untitled to a full 8 hours of work from you!

@lawrencemacd5 жыл бұрын
Keep in mind that the third parties are working off an inventory that someone in your hotel has provided them. Unless someone from the hotel closes out that inventory....they will keep booking. My experience is that it usually the hotel not closing availability...not the third party at fault.

It depends. Night auditors do varying levels of accounting. If you read my earlier comments, I have a lot of hotel/accounting experience and have witnessed the night audit at 3 other properties and this current one has been the most challenging night auditor position I've witnessed so far. Luckily for my hotel, I have intermediate to advanced Excel skills -- which my colleague and I agree they often DON'T appreciate.

06:10 LOL I used to work for Booking.com and whenever there was an overbooking the guest would blame us because the receptionist told him it was our system even though I could see exactly when the hotelier opened up that room on their channel manager or Extranet. I'm starting to work in the front desk on Monday so now I guess I'll be blaming third parties whenever this happens xD
