There is a difference between resting and aging cigars! Resting is allowing a few days, or a few weeks, for your newly purchased cigars to acclimate to your humidor, and possibly get back into spec from transit or less than optimal storage at the retailer. Aging is a longer term, and the expectation of aging is to change the character of the cigar itself - draw, burn, taste and overall smoking experience can be significantly affected by aging.
This video explains how long is optimum for resting and aging, and outlines a strategy for experimenting with aging your cigars.
