You spend a lot of time filming and editing to show the massive amount of labor you put into restoring these cars. I hope people appreciate this. Many don't realize how much labor it takes just to clean and strip a car down.. Ps. You could mention to people that epoxy primer is not a sandable primer. It will clog your sandpaper very fast. Although I have wet sanded epoxy in small spots using sanding screen that comes in rolls. But it's not advisable unless you get chunks in your spray gun. Which is why I wet sanded what I did. Great job vidoing this labor of love. 👍

Cool seeing 1950's bodywork. Totaly agree with how you do repairs. The cars get on the road and are enjoyed at a reasonable cost in time and effort. Bravo.

Total no nonsense approach. Cars come out nice, protected and ready to hit the road. No need for overboard perfection that even the factory did not attain straight from the assembly line.

8 out of 10 as you use to say - I don’t know, you do know what you’re doing, so you get the work done perfectly even though there might be some tiny bit more to perfect. I enjoy to watch every step, but this time I’m a little eager to see what the finished coat of paint will look like. Strato Silver is such a cool color.

Nice work! The car must have been in accident early in it's life = lead body work. The paint stripper available now sure is slow reacting. I tried the citrus stuff when it first came out and didn't like it because it was so slow. Thank You as always for the video! 👍
@Mikefngarage

yea best if you cover it with plastic and leave it overnight. and scoop it off and use it on another panel. IMO as good as the newer strippers they are slow and dry out quickly. Nothing works as well as the old stuff.
@Mercmad
@Mercmad 2 жыл бұрын
you knew the old stuff worked because minute specs of stripper landing on your skin burnt like hell...😁

I found a plastic razor scraper at McFadden Dale hardware, but you have to use only one edge if you know what I mean, it has 2 ends on the blade but once you install the blade in the holder, try scraping with it and if it doesn’t work spin the holder in your fingers to the other side and it works great for stickers and glue and paint stripper. Being plastic, it only has one side.

Do you still have to clean up the louver vents over the deck lid? I'd really like to see how you would strip the paint inside there.

Hey mike where you getting your pass. Side quarter panels from? Also can’t wait til you fix that quarter panel because my 63 in the pass quarter area right in front of rear tire it got hit pretty good and had like a 1/2” of Body filler there. So I need to fix it and see how you attack it seeing there is a interior panel that welds to the wheel hump and the outside panel. Love your videos!

Just tried the Super Clean on my bus overhead insulation glue. Worked great! AG47 will stick to sanded epoxy primer but does it stick to Tamco DTM primer? Isn't that how you did the blocking on the Westy? Thanks for all the excellent videos.
@Mikefngarage
@Mikefngarage 2 жыл бұрын
no it will stick to the DTM...the dtm sticks to the surface really good. I just dont go very thick ova any primer. Ag47 sticks to wood almost anything sanded.

..question..how does that Bauer stuff hold up?..I've considered trying them, but they seem a little pricey to me for off-brand, and they usually only come with one battery..I always want at least 2 batteries with any cordless tool. I've had excellent luck with Harbor Freight hand tools, but haven't taken the leap on any of their cordless power tools yet...

Another great video! I was going to start to get to work on grinding all of the rust off my bus and treating with ospho but I have heard that ospho can cause issues with paint adhesion. My plan is to grind away most of the rust and then treat the pits with a light application. What do you do to prep the surface for epoxy primer on areas where you applied ospho?
@DanTheManIOM
@DanTheManIOM 2 жыл бұрын
on small stuff, I put it in the electrolysis bath to derust it... on the bigger stuff, ospho or that white converter stuff he used on the bucket truck bus.... ospho, then sand it, then epoxy... that's one plan. You could ask Tamco or your epoxy primer provider, the epoxy primer is to lock in the surface and prevent o2 and moisture from getting to the metal... Good luck and drive that bus !

Do you ever powder coat? I like to do my wheels more durable than paint....
@Mikefngarage
@Mikefngarage 2 жыл бұрын
Dont want single tone wheels. Powder coat resists chipping better than paint but still fails over time in the sun. Wheels make the car and single tone doesnt work for me.,... Tamco has a clear called high impact clear that resists chipping
