Restoration Bianchi Campione del mondo 50´s "2nd episode"
Good morning everyone, we start with the restoration of the Bianchi Campione del Mondo bicycle from 1955. This bicycle was completely disassembled and now I am going to clean all the parts of it, for the frame I am not sure what to do with it, I want it Tell me if you liked what I did after watching the video. Buenos días a tod@s, empezamos con la restauración de la bicicleta Bianchi Campione del Mondo de 1955. Esta bicicleta se desmonto entera y ahora voy a limpiar todas la piezas de ella, para el frame no estoy seguro de lo que hacer con el, quiero que me digas si te a gustado lo que le he realizado después de ver el video. Agradable contemplar como un apasionado eleva meticulosamente cada pieza a su mejor versión. Realmente son máquinas atemporales. Yo intento "pasivar" el acero por dentro utilizando algún ácido- sea oxálico, cítrico o, el mejor para esto, fosfórico. Con ello se retira la herrumbre y se forma una capa de óxido oscuro (no rojo) que previene la corrosión que suele devorar estos cuadros. Brillante trabajo y edición del video. Saludos ✌🏼

@@dabrestauracion7404 Los tres los encuentro en la ferretería en Bélgica. El fosfórico se vende explícitamente para retirar herrumbre; el oxálico tiene varios usos pero ese es el más común, lo prefiero por su precio y presentación en cristales lo que facilita el almacenamiento y dilución. Lo que hago es sellar cada orificio del cuadro y luego vierto unos 150-300ml de la solución y muevo el cuadro para que todo se impregne. Cada 15minutos cambio la solución hasta que note que el metal brillante del tubo del sillín (es por donde vierto la solución) se vuelve opaco. Luego lo enjuago con agua destilada unas cuantas veces. Por último, intento secarlo, tubo por tubo, con paño enganchado a cables o cuerdas. Después de secado, paso otro paño con aceite o grasa. Harto tedioso, pero hay cuadros que vale la pena conservar para la postre (¡Eddy Merckx, Colango, por nombrar solo dos cuyo precio solo aumenta!).

@@dabrestauracion7404 El juego de concentración y cantidad lo varío según el grado de óxido que observe, y el estado general del cuadro. El ácido fosfórico que encuentro en Bélgica viene como gel: demasiado viscoso y demasiado concentrado como para usarlo directamente en el interior del cuadro. Pero en sus instrucciones está descrito que se puede diluir. En el proceso de secado veo los paños y en un par de ocasiones aún estaban herrumbrosos luego de mucho esfuerzo. En otros el resultado fue muy satisfactorio. En las tiendas en línea es posible adquirir endoscopios que permiten examinar el interior de cada tubo, pero aún no he puesto mis manos en uno jeje. He visto un video en un canal de un inglés "monkeyshred" en que sumerge un cuadro en ácido oxálico (bañando su exterior también) y la pintura no sufrió más que un poco de decoloración. El mismo resultado, que es dependiente del tiempo de inmersión, lo documenta RJ the Bike Guy en otro de sus videos en que comparaba coca cola, vinagre, ac. oxálico y evaporust. Éste último es el más inocuo pero es caro. Disculpas por mencionarlo hasta ahora jaja. Bueno, largo testimonio pero espero te sirva si decides usarlo. Oh Shit, he went through all that effort and never did an Oxalic acid treatment to the rust he "varnished" it. DAB Dude: Varnished Rust is still just Rust.

Hello friend, the truth is that I have never tried that treatment. As I have read, you need to put the piece in for 24 to 48 hours to remove all the rust. Maybe for some pieces it would have been the right thing to do, but I don't think it would have been good for the frame, since it would have removed all the original paint, I think that for that it would be better to give it new life, make the chrome again and then paint it. I just wanted to preserve the original painting as best as possible. But I already tell you that I am speaking from my ignorance with that process. If you can tell me about that process, I would appreciate it, it is always good to know something more. Thank you for leaving your comment ; )

This is what I don't like about Italian steel bike shinny bits, the chrome lugs and fork crowns, stays, etc. When they show signs of corrosion they can't be brought back unless you do a re-chrome. Stainlees steel and aluminum can be polished and brought back. This restoration using steel wool masks some unsightliness but the corrosion still shows. It's why I wouldn't bother with Battaglin bikes, they look beautiful when new but that beauty won't last.

But that adds to the character and beauty of the bike and a well kept, well used bike with patina is a true gem. Can’t wait for the end result and see what all the work produces.

Yes friend, that's what steel bicycles have, but I think that for the age of this bicycle, the passage of time has not preserved it badly at all. I love it like this, there are other bicycles to see in this state, I would have painted them again. But with this jewel, it was impossible to do that and even more so in its condition, even if it has rust. I understand that you don't like it, as I say "to taste colors." Thanks for your comment ; )
