THE PLAN! When I bought this Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth from Scotland, driving all of the way back to Cornwall, my plan was to carry out a modest and fairly swift restoration - I wanted a tidy example with a more standard look and nice, clean power. I intend to own this car for lots of years, meaning I could improve my Sierra over time.
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT? Restoration has begun and in this video I share everything that has happened so far, the good, the bad and the UGLY! Fair to say there have been some surprises, meaning more time and more money… I am going well beyond my original plan!
If you are new to my Channel or to my Sierra Sapphire Cosworth then please have a watch of the collection video by clicking the link below.

Hi, I’m really enjoying your videos, they bring back happy childhood memories. My Dad’s company at the time were renewing their company cars. The boss had a black Granada cosworth saloon; my dad was meant to have a sapphire cosworth but instead got a white sapphire Ghia with spoiler headlamp wipers and air pump front seats ( boss didn’t want his car to be faster than his, that’s why he didn’t have the cosworth); other employee got a blue Orion 1600 with factory body kit. All F reg. The white sapphire F840 EUX had gone round the clock at least twice before it was scrapped in the early 2000s. Forgot to mention it was a 2.0 DOHC. Not the quickest but enough get up and go.

Thanks for the comment Neil, I really appreciate you watching my videos and am glad you are enjoying the cars. Your Dad's Sierra Sapphire Ghia will have been a brilliant car when new and a great family car for you all... no wonder you have fond memories. I do have a 2.0 DOHC Sierra XR4x4, which you may already have seen on my Channel, but I promise to do a full feature on that car this year. Thanks so much for watching and I look forward to hearing from you again on future videos.

@@cornishcarcollectors humm I imagine that the work might cost however you’ll know it’s been done right. Paying for a Cosworth at a high price doesn’t guarantee a car that’s worth the money. It’s mainly why I’ve not bought one since the prices have risen so much since 2009. You’ve got an excellent collection of cars and this sits brilliantly amongst them. Keep up the good work and can’t wait to see you next videos 🙂

I want to see a British car builder build a Supra Slayer. Imagine it now. One of the most popular YT cars is the Supra and the sheep all love it. Imagine a Ford Saph cosworth painted up in fast n furious Supra colours to really drive it home. The 210mph saph cosworth 0-200mph in 24.5seconds running around 900bhp. Plus driven daily. Imagine the buzz YT if it was built and well advertised. USA garage picks it up like car trek guys. Or donut. A 4 cylinder that can blast past 200mph like the Supra guys dream of with 4 cylinders.

It actually upset me watching the first video on the car, as it sounded like you were only going to do the bare minimum of work on the car when they deserve the full treatment, so l am glad to see you're doing a more substantial resto as you won't lose out if you hold onto the car as Cosworth prices are only going to accelerate, an RS500 sold recently for nearly 600k, obviously a pristine example but you catch my drift.

Great concise update 👍 looks like you do nothing by half’s & doing things properly, now waiting in anticipation for the next episode. You probably already know so apologies in advance, but you can still keep the upgraded breather system without it breathing from the cam cover! You can keep the oil catch can but connect the two breather pipes to each side of the block one goes bellow the turbo where there’s a spare threaded plug in the block & the other breather pipe below the inlet manifold to the original breather port on the block, then attach the oil return bellow the oil level on the sump, you’ll need a hose union welding to the sump for that.

Absolutely brilliant update excellently illustrated i really enjoyed it just like the 1st one home from Scotland. Ive had 3 saffs in me time but when they were at the 5k to 6k mark and 2 a pennie to choose from on the trader. Ive a Mk1 FRS now and im following a few saff restorations on you tube at the moment which im tempted to sell the FRS and go back to a saff but in all honesty im probably gonna be ending up doing what you are at the moment doing a restoration as nearly everyone say they never meant to go that far but always do .. the saying if your gonna do a job do it propa etc! Anyway full credit at the car is coming along very nicely. .The purchase of £15.750 was in my eyes entry level and you got a good deal for even if the resto hits the 10K mark or a little more the car itself will be the investment of more without fail. .also sell the softlines get some cash in if you wanted. Anyway best of luck looking forward to the next update .. thanks for sharing 😎

Great restoration, I think your mad but I understand why you’re doing it. I owned an 88 White Sapphire Cossie when I was stationed in Germany in the 90’s. It was my dream car as the Escort was too far out of reach. It would use a litre of oil for every 100 miles over 100mph on the autobahn. I thought maybe it was just my car but my friend had a 1 year old Escort Cossie with 12k that did exactly the same plus had multiple issues. Don’t get me wrong I’ve always loved them but I owned one and it spoilt the dream if I’m honest. Good luck with yours as I know it will be a great investment and look stunning when it’s done.

Thanks for the comment and for sharing your experience of the Cosworth... sounds great fun! I totally agree about what I am doing being "mad"; it was never the plan to go this far but one thing continues to lead to another and I keep agreeing to doing more. Should end up with a decent car at the end... if I ever get there! Thanks for watching, I hope you stay tuned and hope to hear from you again on a future video.
