Just watched your latest video, jet washing the walls. That granite has come up beautifully. I’ve been following another guy in Italy who has a similar kind of property (Martyn doolaard) there’s some really good tips he’s learnt for preparing walls like those, pointing and tools. Key things I’d mention if you don’t get much time, using the drill and a wire wheel will get some more from the cracks, and to tidy up the pointing afterwards. He also sprayed the walls with some kind of insecticide as there were bugs living in the walls. Then a line breathable mortar for your pointing. That will help combat mould and damp. Maybe, if you let us know what you’re “tackling in the next few weeks”, we can give you some ideas or if there’s a process or part that you’re struggling with we can help. All the best and love watching you guys Si x

Hi Laura and Dan! A joy to see you! I love the overhead shot of your home. It is so lovely and you can see God's blessings all over it. The walls look so much better and it really shows the strength of the stone. Dan's comments about the size of some of the stones is so true. I never really noticed that before. It is going to be so amazing when completed. You both cross my mind often and are always in my prayers. You know I love the "ending chat" you share with us all. It always brings me great joy and comfort to see you. A lovely couple so exceedingly blessed by God. God bless you both mightily and so much love in Christ. ~John

The builders most likely used a block & tackle with a heavy wooden frame/crane to place the granite blocks. You two have done a marvelous job so far in bringing out those beautiful colours and texture!! Try running the water up the hill utilizing your water system and run the hose from the tap to the pressure washer aka 'Archer'.... be a lot easier for you

I used a karcher K4 or get paint off my shed, it didn’t do much of a job. So I bought a cheap blasting attachment for the Karcher which meant I could blast it with tiny glass beads. This worked by like you I was plastered with crap and water, I did the job in a day and 3 bags of glass beads, of course it did clog up a few times which I did manage to work round and I chose a hot day as I got completely soaked.

Great start on restoring the stone barn. Like Dan pointed out, there was some serious work by many hands putting those stones in place. Just a suggestion, put in a concrete slab or concrete and stone/tile floor with a vapor barrier over sand in the barn to keep critters and moisture out. Locals will have some good advice for the floor. Good luck and continued success!

Hey Dan I know you are happy with your jet washer , before I retired I used many jet washers at different times the one that worked without doubt was anyone with its own engine driving its own pump , if you perhaps rented one for just a day with a rotary head you would be amazed at the power difference, this is just a personal experience I’ve tried myself and found very productive,,, keep up the good vids and the best of luck with your residency application 👍👍👍John

Hi guys . Your doing great and having fun that’s what matters. Maybe it’s the float stitch on your pump. It’s got to be over the level of the pump to work .. if it drops below the level of the pump it automatically cuts off. You may need to tie it up with string. But don’t let it run dry. Maybe you already know this . But it’s worth trying 😊

Hi Laura and Dan............ I have not commented before as I've only just recently discovered your channel. Whilst I was under the weather a couple of weeks back, I followed your journey so far and made my way through all your video uploads in a couple of days (so much so that when I ran out of videos to watch I missed seeing you both 😀) I just wanted to tell you that I really admire what you are doing. Without wanting to sound patronising, You are both young and free spirited and are learning as you go.... but so many young people allow society to drag them into the mundane routine of life. You two have been brave enough to try something new and you both clearly work very hard to achieve your dreams...... Good for you 😀 ................... As far as the jet washing is concerned..... it is one of the most satifying pass times theres is, the effects are immediate and it is such a great sense of achievement to see the end result. Please keep the videos coming, Ignore the trolls, stay positive........... and I can't wait for the next video. All the very best - Stu x

Awesome, I think you guys are doing a great job cleaning up inside your barn, and I did hear that you said that you read our comments only after you have tackled what you have planned for the day. I would suggest that the last 5 minutes at the end of each video you should tell us your plans for tomorrow or when you are going to tackle your next project and then ask for ideas and good advice for going forward. For example I am presently following about 10 off-Grid couples and single ladies asking their followers for advice. This way if you don’t have the tools to work on your next project, you will find time to go into town and get the right tools to tackle the problem or jobs. All your followers know that you do your research and that’s good, but you will also get good knowledge from people who have done it before or are experienced enough to give great advice. Yes, last 5 minutes at the end of your video, paint a picture. Remember this statement - A practical demonstration is worth a thousand words.

You mentioned your residency issues, are those sorted. I note from other sites that certain building that weren't residences before dont qualify as homes for applications for residency. I hope you are on top of this, as I admire you both. Also a little thing I learnt the hard way. Some IBC containers dont have a UV coating, and in the dry sun the plastic will become brittle and crack. I got a can of spray paint for the one of mine that hadn't disinterested. Still ok after 12months.

great video you can use one of the spare ibc and put by stone house fill the other one on truck with water from the well. then you can empty water in other ibc by house so you can carry on working and the truck is free to use elsewhere

Walls will be beautiful when all cleaned. Outdoor kitchen with porch type overhang or awning will work great. Make sure your storage is extremely secure from pest and animals. Pizza oven (they are easy to make yourself) and wood cooking stove. Hopefully you will have water piped to your tiny home by that time. Good video thank you.

Walls are looking great! Next time you might not need the pump in the IBC, you can just connect your hose to the bottem if the IBC, waterpressure makes sure the water will flow to the pressure washer

There are a lot of adaptors out there, even with a ball valve so you can easy attach a hose. Just make sure that the IBC stands higher as the pressure washer and the water will flow without any effort 😉

Great vid, barns coming on. You shouldnt need the well pump, just get the garden hose adapter for the IBC and the Karcher's internal pump will pull the water through. 👍👍

Let us know what jobs you are tackling next so people can leave advice in the comments on how to do them etc. The walls will look great when they are pointed... my advice would be to use a lime mortar... you can of course watch loads of vids on youtube on what is best for these walls. Keep up the good work guys, you're doing really well ❤

the exposed granite looks great - may i suggest that eventually you point it with a lime hemp mix as they used in the MAKE DO GROW videos - and only show the larger granite blocks rather than the smaller ones. best of luck! 🙂

Thanks for sharing Peter but we are not using lime we have spoke to builders out hear and they said white concrete is much better :)

@@theoriginhomestead I just read this and I'm picturing you guys repointing and filling in everything, but don't! Some of those holes or gaps can be useful. Use them to hang shelves, potted plants, whatever. You can do some pretty cool stuff with them. The wall with the big squarish hole has lots of potential. My advise is consider leaving some of those "imperfections" before you do the pointing work.

@@theoriginhomesteadplease don’t use concrete. There is a show called Restoration Australia. Watch episode 7 St. Martins from about 14 minutes in to 18 minutes as they are forced to remove the concrete pointing as it will destroy the sandstone. Now yours is granite but the aesthetics of concrete can also be an eyesore, especially if you don’t get it right.
