Hi watchbangers!
With a little updated upload schedule, I also bring you a new video! In this video, we will be bringing back a pretty beaten up old citizen watch I found! Next to the usual repair of the movement, I will also be covering the pretty risky field of dial feet repairs and showing off my own technique and my balcony in the process! Hope I dont ruin the Tissot PRX - like waffel dial! Enjoy!

I just finished my first movement fix/service last weekend and it was the 8200. I figured what the heck. I can either keep swimming around the comment sections of other real watchmakers or I can dive in! Of course, I only dove in after having spent hundreds$$ on minimum tools and lubricants after discovering watchmaking a couple months agov and binging service videos since. But yup, dove in. This is an older of your videos so I'm sure you've got the new tweezers and screw drivers in service, but the fact you would post a video using this pair is awesome! The average person just dabbling in something to see if they like it might only have access to a pair like that, but otherwise might be intimidated off by the expensive second mortgage tools and machines. Thanks for this!

You are doing my head in with those tweezers.......either bend them straight again or re grind them to a good shape on some wet and dry or stone, hint dont make them too pointy unless you are going to do balance spring adjustments. Nice work

I notice you're a bit clumsy in your work, breaking the pastic cog, flipping out the jewel, and one or two other slippages. But I'm happy to see you're one of the few watchmakers on KZfaq who will tackle an everyday Citizen watch. Most only work on Rolex, Omega, Breitling etc you know all the expensive Swiss movements because its not worth their effort to do a Citizen! So Bravo! for that. Do keep up the watchmaking work, you'll learn more and more all the time.

lift angle should be 49, because it's a replica of 8215 which is 49. I thought aiming for a minimum amplitude of 270° is healthy. Also the Delta between horizontal and vertical positions shouldn't be more than 40°. You were satisfied with 20X°. I recommend Alex Hamiltons Videos on how to increase amplitude. Have fun going down the rabbit hole of buying equipment to do so :D
@peerhauser
@peerhauser Жыл бұрын
Since my comment I disassembled, cleaned and reassembled the 8200 5 times and I have to say, it's almost impossible to reach 270 amplitude. The highest I got was 260 on a factory new one and 240 on the original old one. If I'm honest I can't really find where Alex was mentioning 270, but I found that he talks about a minimum of 210 after 24h on manual wind movements and 190 for automatic. That means fully wound and then left running for 24h. He mentioned that to be the industry standard. And by the way, rewatching your video together with my practice on the same movement, the reason why the main power was not releasing is that the click was still in the wheel while you were only holding back the click spring. I levea the stem in to let down the power gradually while holding the crown. In that case, if you wind up first, the click disengages and you can hold it then in place and keep releasing slowly. Hope that helps for future projects. Best if luck to us both.

Wheel count method: Mainspring barrel is #1, Escape wheel is #5, the wheel closest/connected to the escape is #4. Usually center wheel is #2 and the other mid wheel is #3. Experts, please correct if I'm wrong.

Your watch restoration and dial repair worked out very well! There something I saw about dial foot repairs and have not tried yet. Henry Fried's book "Bench practices for watch repairers" (page 233) describes how to make a dial foot clip out of copper or brass wire. It clips onto the dial and holds the wire in place while soldering. You then cut off the clip leaving the soldered foot. I will try it on a watch I have with one broken foot. I read that you also have to be very careful about the amount of heat. Too much heat may burn the lacquer/finish on the dial.

Win-Win.

Counting the spokes will give you the # of the wheel. ex: third wheel got 3 spokes..etc. You can replace the watchmaker paper with Scott toilet paper, both have no fibers.

Oh really! Thats so cool! By the way, is the watch/ reference still visible around the 6 O.Clock indice? If so could you let me know what it is, since a viewer has asked for it before and I would also love to know it, since my reference has faded away! But to answer your question, I dont know where to find the replacement dials since the dial is pretty rare I think. However you could just google the dial/watch case reference and hope that something comes up! Good luck :)

Bro you are actually applying too much oil, not too little. Also it would serve the watch much better if you apply the oil only in the very middle of the jewel. When you cover the sides or the top of the jewel -as you do- with oil it will pull the oil out from the middle leaving the pinion dry. This oil will then eventually spread out over the surface of the movement which isn’t supposed to have any oil on it.

Danke! Also sollte es gehen! Falls du mehr Infos, oder weitere Fragen hast kannst mir einfach eine Email schreiben :)

Is it ok if i clean all the part just by rubbing alcohol?
@Berlintime030

You should use some liquid, like lighter fluid, which would degrease and remove old oils. Of course only alcohol with a high percentage( mine is 98%) would do a very rough Job but could work!

Hello, I have a question to see if you can give me a hand, I have a citizen 7 eagle with the same movement (8200a), but it has been kept for a year and a half, I sold it yesterday and the buyer tells me that the watch has stopped for 3 sometimes even wearing it on the wrist...do you think that due to the time it has been stored it should be charged longer or perhaps it needs maintenance (lubrication)...what do you recommend, regards.
@Berlintime030
@Berlintime030 Жыл бұрын
Hi there! Thanks for the question :). These 8200A movements are quite old and the problems can definetly be from lacking lubrication and cleaning. And you should at least wear the watches a few days to store up and test the power. If you are not really active while wearing the watch, it definetly can stop often! If you know that the watch has been serviced recently, it could however be that something happend to the watch during transport or that something might have been faulty from the service. Hope the info helps! You can write me a E-Mail or comment if you have any other questions
@falomore
@falomore Жыл бұрын
thanks for your prompt response; I bought the watch on ebay, but I never wore it, I kept it for a year and a half, do you think it is necessary to wear it on the wrist for a certain number of hours after being stored for so long, or is that not important? The clock works for a few hours and stops, that is, it works intermittently, according to what the buyer tells me, what do you recommend?
@Berlintime030
@Berlintime030 Жыл бұрын
@@falomore I would definetly say that it needs a few days on an active wrist. If however the watch doesnt functionally run after that, it is a clear sign that it needs a service. If you properly stated the condition of the watch then it should be the buyers responsibility.

Hahaha you have a good eye! It wasnt actually that long, only around 20 seconds! I got the pinions in very fast. The first 8200s I worked on had at least 2/3 pinions breaking when I trried to fit on the main bridge and probably 30 minutes of frustration!
@headshot6959

@@Berlintime030 Five pivots, not including the barrel, to align to a single bridge on a very small movement like the Miyota 82 series, it's just obnoxious. With this movement, I usually insert the screws for the main bridge and not tighten them down, just to keep it in place while I'm pushing the pivots into place.
