This summer, Porsche Cars GB celebrates 40 years of the 924 with a unique project: the restoration of a classic 1980s racing prototype. A finisher at the tortuous 1980 24 Hours of Le Mans, 924 GTP 002 has since lain untouched. Find out how four UK Porsche Centres and a Porsche Recommended specialist are bringing it back to life.

Porsche needs to bring back the 924(or a comparable car, and its successors)I don't want a 911 OR a boxster. I love the 924 transaxle and large rear hatch. Also Like the clean lines of the 24. The 924 turbo is one of my favorites. Light weight, sporty, the cool vented nose panel and NACA duct in the hood... A truly affordable "TURBO" Porsche. So why not make a new version, comparable to the BRZ/FRS, bmw 1M and new M2, the ecoboost 2.3 mustang. New Miata hardtop. Go ahead useVW/audi parts again I don't care. I like the audi 5cyl motor. Just price is at $37,500 (USD) and Ill be camping out at the dealers door!

They need to make the 924-928 again as their affordable sports car, then use the flat 4 in it.

30-40 years ago an affordable Porsche made sense. Owners were responsible, low key, modest and loved driving them. Today however the last thing Porsche needs is an affordable model that would tarnish the brand image. Why? Well, today the average owner of a fast car in the "affordable" price bracket usually is some overgrown kid with a lasting hormonal rage, who has seen too many bad Hollywood movies (Fast and Furious etc) and who spends most time flashing and bragging about their car at local meetings with other kids rather than driving them - which they were designed for. Porsche doesn't want to target that demographic.
