So I don't know why I'm so interested in AG dolls again after so long but here I am lol. Anyway, I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate you saying "little boy or girl" not a lot of people are too tolerant of boys having dolls.

I had the same problem with the baking soda solution! But when I watered it down a lot it actually worked so much better:) However I did have to go back with the magic eraser to get stains such as pen marks off. But if a doll doesn't have too much dirt on her the baking soda & water solution is a good option:)

If saige's hair ends up getting tangled again I recommend taking a small chunk and keeping it down with your thumb so that it doesn't pull out her hair and lightly brushing it from the bottom to the top. It works really well in my opinion and my cousin told me she used that for Ruthie's hair.

I'm really glad you posted this! Someone I know recently found a Saige doll at a second hand store for only $5! She asked of I wanted it, and of course I said yes, though she says that she will need lots of maintenance. Apparently her freckles have faded quite a lot and her hair is really messy like the one that you fixed. I get her tomorrow, so I guess then I'll see how bad off she really is. I hope I can fix her!

Nice job! I agree, baking soda and water ends up in a mess and it takes a while to get all of the baking soda off. It gets everywhere.

I learned to do this kind of stuff in college. I worked at a store for 6 months where we sold pre-loved AG dolls.

This video was really helpful for me to know what to do with my Saige's hair. I just took her out of my storage closet today and her hair is a little worse for wear! I'll have to go to the dollar store tomorrow and pick up some foam rollers.

American girl doll actually have heat safe kanekelon hair,as long as you have your flat iron or curling iron on your lowest setting it will curl and straighten just fine and the hair will look silkier

I just recently cleaned my 7 year old AG doll she had blond hair and blue eyes and peach skin, she had matted hair, and her skin was dusty, so what I did is grabbed a bowl put fabric softener, warm water i put her clothes in and her there too in only 4 min the water was dirty, i changed it and left her there for an hour. I brushed her hair put a bit of conditioner and started brushing it, it didn't take long and, i let her dry, right now she looks amazing. Time to ship her to my little cousin.

I tried tightening my doll's limbs and now her head won't stay on. I've tried and tried to fix it but it won't budge. A lot of my dolls are not in the best condition since I've had some of them for a long time. There is a white mark on Luciana's arm and I don't have the right stuff to fix it :(((

I just purchased a used Saige on ebay, your tips will be great to try. I’m nervous to try the flat iron, but your method worked well. There were oil like stains on the body in the pictures, could they be gotten out with out taking the stuffing & body apart? (She arrives next week)
