You could also add reinforcement i.e Killerplanes, milk carton plastic at this point for strength.

+Bob Barker I've had pretty good luck with the foam putty and other light spackle products. I usually put it on pretty thin and let it dry completely. Then add another layer and so on. In cases where I was filling a larger ding, I've placed some tooth picks across the span for something for the putty to hang on to. Kind of like chicken wire under stucco. I usually let the stuff dry at least overnight. When dry it's really hard and takes a bit of sanding with a fine grain sand paper to get it smooth. A lot of times I'll use a credit card-like plastic piece to use like a squeegee to match the surface as close as I can to avoid some of the sanding. I've not had any issues with it coming off if it was completely dry.

The goal was never to have and maintain a perfectly smooth surface. Rather, it was to smooth out dents and depressions from minor crashes to big oops. Foam is what it is but there is no need to have your model look like an old beater -- unless you like that look. If so, then go for it!

Alot of these guys don't even fly. They just buy these and hang em in their garage.
