Wow that wooden floor is incredible! I’m with James on the temporary rug solution until a long term fix is affordable. The location of the issue area being in front of the fireplace brings suspicion. Maybe fire damage? Looks like chipboard which is notoriously quick to install.

Thanks we were amazed too and have come round to the rug idea. Good point on the fire damage, that may makes sense, hopefully no more surprises 😊
