Near-shore fishers from local communities, are critical to meeting most of the world’s demand for fish, however, increasing fishing efforts over the last several decades have pushed many near-shore fisheries to the brink of collapse.
This video explores the problem of overfishing, it’s impact on nearshore fishers and how a community led TURF + Reserve is one solution that can turn the tide of overfishing and protect near-shore fisheries for generations to come.

And we are only thinking about the fish, we aren't even thinking of other ocean life that depend on fish to survive. It is a more difficult and critical problem than we think.

What's really rediculus is the fact that these small time fishermen need a shit load of fish to make a few bucks but the people they sell it to are the ones that really profit. Therefore, the little guy will do anything, including distructive/illegal things to get his numbers. He and the ecosystem loose, the person they sell the catch too, wins

Hello, I am a university student and I am doing a Digital Documentary Project. This project is just a homework and I will not upload it to any website, so Can I use your video in my individual project?? Cause I need to get explicit permission from the owner of the video before I use it in my homework. Thank you very much~

They’re called “anglers” not “fishers”. A fisher is a bird.

@@chickenman100 Like any people from poorer nations would agree to this... Also, there are invasive fish, as well. So, just stopping fishing altogether would make matters worse.

@Somas you could eat the invasive fish, like in some countries they eat the invasive fish. I don’t really know how to respond to this, so I’mma leave.

@Somas if there are invasive fish that supposedly eat the other fish’s food, how come they are still alive through nature?
