Thanks to Established Titles for sponsoring today's video. Go to establishedtitles.com/Restora... to get 10% off today. This is a great last minute gift, especially with Mother's Day around the corner. They plant a tree for every order so you're helping make the world a better place!
This week is a great week to watch and learn for all our DIY fans out there. As we restore our Victorian we tackle hanging a drop repeat wallpaper around a room that is neither level nor plumb and show you that you can do it too! Laine says "geography" twice when she means "geology",but that's just what happens when you spend 16 hours in one day and stay up until 2:30 am hanging wallpaper. We also share some tips and tricks on making sure your newly hung wallpaper stays looking new for as long as possible when you are dealing with plaster walls in an old home.
Historic homes can present a number of intimidating projects, wallpaper being one, properly wired and functioning light fixtures is another. Laine will walk you step by step through re-wiring some turn of the 20th century fixtures that can shine like new again. Think you can't rewire a fixture? Watch and learn! We get two beauties working like new...because old is the new new!
And what 115 year old lady doesn't need at least a little bit ofa face-lift? This Victorian Cottage is getting her's started by getting a new old front door-one far more appropriate than the 50's psuedo colonial style she has now. The door was selected last week, and this week the paint stripping and detail work begins!
Another long, hard week of DIY home restoration done, and one step closer to this historic home shining like she did when she was built!

My sister & I wallpapered Mom's kitchen wall for her while she was out to dinner one night. It was the soak and put up kind. We were 16 & 14 at the time. No problems though we were afraid of the corner unfurl from the top and the whole sheet would come off the wall. Luck was on our side and it came out beautifully. Mom was so proud of us. Good times.

This is so much fun watching you work. 😉 I am now 70 and can’t do what I want anymore. But I have hung dozens of wallpaper rolls in my life beginning at 16 years old when I helped my mom. A friend and I did an absolutely gorgeous ceiling geometric design with several strips and patches of a variety of papers. Oh, I miss those days! ❤

I love the wallpaper. It's just enough to be Victorian without being overwhelming. And I so look forward to both the restoration & house tour videos. My only problem is that the audio gets lost in the echo. Don't know if you can do anything about that. It's ok, I'll still watch. Love this.

Thank you for mentioning about the quarter inch overlap. My Grandma, my Mom, our friend Virginia, and I have always done it this way and never had a problem. When we moved after living in our first home over 14 years. It looked as good as it did when we put it up before we moved in.

I really appreciate all the work both of you do to these old homes, especially you, Laine. I think it is important to show other women that some of these rehab jobs are not beyond them. Rewiring the light fixtures is very intimidating, and so many other areas you skillfully take on give us courage. So thank you for that. And just for the record, I prefer to watch the work/rehab videos way more than the tours. I think, it is a shame that, so many only watch the tours and take no time to learn what it takes to rehab these old homes and maintain them.

The wall's look great, good jobs guys! we bought a old home on 10 acres, built in 1903. WOW just so lovely. The man who built it owned a lumber company. They just don't make homes like they use to. We love ours, all the pockets doors, all the fire places, tall ceilings just wood you can't get any more.

About a month ago, here in KZfaq I noticed the thumbnail of your Lady Louise, and since I love old houses, I clicked on it, found your channel, and was immediately hooked! I've spent the past few weeks bingeing all your vlogs, and am now caught up! I am so sad for the loss of Lady Louise, since she is what brought me to your channel, and I have so many comments on all your other girls, but it would take up too much room lol! I have always enjoyed old houses and their history. I have a thing for old staircases...grand, back, servant, spiral, wood, stone, any kind of stairs...fireplaces with their beautiful carvings and tilework, and also old light fixtures and chandeliers. Your knowledge is incredible, your teamwork is so fun to watch, and the one thing that drew me the most is your camera work, and how you show off both the homes you're working on, and the home tours you give. I'm really pleased I found your channel!

I stripped and re-wallpapered a petite Victorian kitchen in about 1990 and wish I had known about floating the corners. Would have made the work look so much better. And I know how much hot sweaty work it is do that much less trying to film and edit for KZfaq. I really, truly, for sure love what you are doing and the education I get from it is surprising. Thanks so much for taking us along for the ride. I have no doubt that someday all will be done and gorgeous, and I'm not in a hurry to see "the reveal". p.s. I see fluffy puppy tail!

I don't know if you still get these messages but I'll send it anyway. I love watching your program. I have worked on a few projects myself but nothing like this; I have learnt so much it will come in handy next summer when I redo the inside of my home (on a very low budget). In case you hadn't noticed the reason the light fixture had a light socket in it is because it use to be a pull chain light. But you most likely know that. Till next time.

The wallpaper is beautiful--so elegant and fresh! An excellent choice for a room to be light and bright, and sparkling. 😜 With regard to stripping the door---I've restored several antique pieces of furniture, and well know the amount of work involved. I once restored a mahogany Chippendale Revival desk from the 1920s covered in paint. WHAT a job! I learned a toothbrush dipped in stripper was an invaluable tool, lol...that was 25 years ago and I still have the desk, so it was worth the effort. Restoring and refinishing antiques, whether it's furniture, light fixtures, brass pieces, or an old house (which I've never done) is a lot of work, but very rewarding. I really enjoy your videos. 👍🤗

A suggestion....perhaps invest in some microphones to attach your shirts for clearer audio. The echo in the empty rooms and the distance between yourselves and the camera made it hard to understand sometimes. Anyways keep up the GREAT work!

Beautiful choice of wallpaper! It has a William Morris "lite" look to it. Just right with the blue tile and river boat lamp. I understand when you address negative comments from viewers, but people need to appreciate that we get the real you, doing real work, and sharing your passions with us, not what some big network thinks we should see so they can sell things. I have been there, watching the clock, hours away from being done on a project, wondering what fast food place is still open for the next half hour. One entertaining aspect of paint stripping is guessing what decade the color was from. The crown mouldings in one of our bedrooms had hot pink paint two layers down.

You forgot to mention whether the smooth or crimped lamp cord wire was the hot and which was the neutral. But I did learn that hot goes to gold (like the warm color of light) and is the black (as in hot=fire=burnt! LOL). Thank you!

Did y'all recently change your video format style? Cause I'm absolutely loving it! Your content was great before but this feels next level. I'm getting stories, I'm getting witty banter, I'm getting excellent instructions on historical preservation... what more could a gal ask for. The audio sometimes gets a bit echoey in the rooms but I imagine doing this work miced would be a major pain in the butt. Thank you for continuing to provide such important content :-)

Love the wallpaper. Would you be willing to share the manufacturer and design number of the wallpaper? Being someone who just restored a 1900 farmhouse, I can certainly appreciate all the hard work it takes. And I am with you Laine, why do people paint such gorgeous wood!! I overall like the different videos but the ones with your hard work are my favorites. If I lived closer to you, I am in Minnesota, I would be paying you to help work on this lovely home. No one nowadays appreciate the workmanship and uniqueness of these older homes. So much better than the cookie cutter homes of today. I look forward to more restoration videos. Give yourselves a good pat on the back for all your hardwork.
