The time has come for the point in the restoration where we have to deal with the underside of the bus, according to the Volkswagen Bay Transporter Restoration Manual, this is the first part of your restoration you should tackle as it is one of the worst. Is it worth it? That is up to you to decide. Watch as we find a way to get the bus lifted as high as possible with minimal tools and repair some rust spots on the frame, to prepare it for POR-15 and some epoxy primer. Blimey that’s dedication! FYI if you’re ever doing this again, jack up the rear using the bottom of the rear shocks. That way you can get the wheel higher without lifting the van 2 foot in the air (you have to do one side at a time, slowly slowly or use 2 jacks) ❤

Your patience and persistence is unmatched. Wow. Propping the bus up on the cinder blocks made me nervous thinking about all the karate guys who just chop those in half with their hands. Then I saw the safety rims and thought...well that's a bit better. LOL.

Strong work! I don't trust cinder blocks to hold too much, I've had too many fall apart in my hands. Good move with the tires as back up. It's great to follow along with you guys.

They’re partially solid cinder blocks, they’re pretty tough, but I do like having as many back ups as possible. Appreciate you keeping up with the channel!

Whenever I was doing engine work on my bus I had to do the sketchy lift with paver stones too 😂

What you have done to both wheel arches is very labour intensive. I did my entire undercarriage then seam sealed it then primed it then psinted then black raptor. The results ate a factory finish. Time consuming but worth it.

Well, I have been watching your videos and you are doing a fantastic job all over, I know its at times overwhelming and never ending, but you have the right personality to overcome. Keep at it and when you getva new loom, get one from Wolfsburg West. They have colour instructions and it's very straightforward. 👍

I have removed about 90% of the undercoating on my van. I think's it worth doing as it looks great and exposes rust issues. However, it's one of the most disgusting jobs I have ever done. You get sticky S### all over your body. I used a heat gun, many different brushes and solvent to remove my undercoating. I found it amusing that most of the undercarriage was not painted. It was in a grey primer. Only my wheel arches were painted white (the colour of the my van). Thanks for the great video!

I definitely tried many methods and all of them are honestly a pain in the butt lol. Are you respraying the bottom of your bus?

@@Vangabonders Nope. I like the fact that it's not perfect and the way it came out of the factory. I have been using Linseed oil to protect it and so far I have not had any issues.

I prefer to not give myself a time constraint so as to not lose my mind. Instead I make it a goal to get in the garage every day and work on it and see where I get! Looking forward to more of your videos!

Hey love the video. I plan to fit one of those diesel heaters to my van to as my heating source to but if I were you I would get a altoterm one they are a lot more expensive but will last longer and are so much quieter then those cheap ones. I work for a Campervan conversion company and we take out loads of those cheap ones and put in the altoterm ones as they break all the time :)

You are that far along build a new wire harness. Wiring in a vw is so simple I know you can do better than original because you can string a heavier wire for better protection from fire and the ability to add extra lights you want ps. Very nice job iii
