I know the feeling. I started saving for my first car at the age of 13 with my paper route. At the age of 15 (1967) I found a running '55 Ford for $85.00, bought it and during the next year (until I was 16 and able to drive) I had time to dress it up with new metallic paint job, new interior and a set of chrome wheels. It was the nicest '55 Ford around and I got lots of compliments driving it around.

That thing is just awesome I love the old school hot rods

I think this is a big part of why people love old hot rods. It's not just a bunch of metal, there's a human connection and a human history to all of them, as much about the people who build them as it is about the car. It was very touching to see your father in law's reaction to hearing his old car fire up again. I imagine how he must've felt when he first came back from war. The car that had waited for him, that his parents kept for his safe return, must've been a great help in adjusting back to civilian life again.

Great story behind a sweet car. I can imagine what it was like to drive that beast. I had a good laugh when you were talking about opening her up and trying to keep it together. It's nice to see a young man keeping the roots of true hot rodding history alive... My 1st car I built was a 53 chevy 2 door Tricked out straight 6 Clifford splitter with twins carbs. 3 on the tree ( the younger generations don't even know what that is)...i worked at the local market after school and built " bert" as I saved... I sold ol Bert in 1972 for $200 not bad I played $50 for it. couldn't tell you how much I put into it ..i was always adding or replacing something.

Love the video. This is a perfect example of the level of attachment men (some women too!) can (and should) develop with a car. People that have no involvement with the hobby (lifestyle!) have no understanding that we develop a relationship with a machine. The machine becomes a friend, and a part of the family. When things don’t go right, ya feel like you’re letting it down. There is a REAL emotional attachment, shown perfectly in this video.
