I’m a veterinarian and I agree. Whenever anyone asks me “If you could have any superpower, what would it be?” My answer is always “Being able to communicate with animals.” Can you imagine how much easier my life would be? 😊

Susanc4622..She picked up the scent of the owner of the wallet. The wallet would have the owner's scent on it. Dogs pick up scents on the ground (where animals & people have walked.) Their footsteps leave their scent. We may not see footprints, or smell anything, but dogs can smell the scent. The dog scented the person through the soil he/she walked on, followed their scent in the air to get the direction they went, and followed the scent. The scent trail led the dog to the owners wallet. The dog was trained to stop and sit, signaling that it had a "find" to be checked out. Dogs pick up scents on soil, lingering in the air, under several feet of ground, and in (and under) water. That is why they are so awesome at 'searches'. I was told by a canine researcher, that dogs can distinguish different odors that are mingled together. He used the example of smelling a cake cooking in the oven. Humans smell the scent of cake- the combination of ingredients mixed together to make one scent that we detect. But dogs smell the individual ingredients in the cake: eggs, milk, sugar, flour, etc. That is why drug smugglers are not successful at "masking" the scent of drugs when they use something like coffee grounds to disguise the scent of the drugs. Dogs still pick up the scent of drugs, as well as the coffee scent. That dog was following the person's scent. Then upon finding the wallet, the dog knew the object (wallet) had been touched by the owner because it detected their scent on the wallet. The dog didn't know it would find a wallet instead of a person. It was simply following a scent and pointing out his "find", as it was trained to do.

A little tracking dog training and scent work training (both common dog SPORTS) and you too could be a KZfaq star. Seriously, think about it. Once retired, a real K9 officer would no longer be wearing a legitimate Police K9 vest. My dachshund and I could’ve made this video.
