I think the 348 and the mid 90's F355 are some of the most handsome Ferrari's. They're not overly flashy or in your face. Nice and subtle (by Ferrari standards anyway). I probably like them because I was 10-16 years old when they were new. You always like the cars from your youth.
@cbh1486 жыл бұрын
No, they really are some of the most handsome Ferrari's. I would've been 1-11 years old when 348/355's were new ('89-'99). I didn't realize how much I liked them till long after they departed from making that style of car design. As with many vehicles of that era compared to the decades that followed, they look more genuine and sincere.

Gorgeous cars. I always thought the 348 looked more aggressive than the 355. Euro cars accelerated a little more briskly than American models with low to mid 5 second 0-60 times, fast for the time. Still, these cars could run to 165mph, so to dismiss them as 'slow' is ridiculous.

I remember hearing Brian Robinson (I believe) saying during the 20th Anniversary special that he & another staffer were arguing about which of these cars to take home for the weekend, & then they finally stopped & asked themselves "Wait a minute, why are we arguing? It's a Ferrari, just go out & enjoy it, for crying out loud."

Less is more. The entirely analog 348 is the biggest bang for the buck. The 355 has brass valve issues. the 355s electronic adjustable suspension goes out. the 355 spider's roof is one piece and costs $60k to replace. its now or never for the 348 - the shrewdest sports car purchase in the entire Ferrari market.

Wasn't the Honda/Acura NSX designed to go up against the 348?
@SANYUR7 жыл бұрын
Nope, The Toyota MR2 Turbo was designed against the 348, The NSX was intended for the Ferrari Testerrosa
@GeekTherapyRadio7 жыл бұрын
Well not "against" really. MR2 took its cues from these mid-engined exotics, but never ever intended to actually compete with them. In other words, someone looking to buy a $112,000 car wasn't deciding between a Ferrari and a Toyota.
@s14tat7 жыл бұрын
Marshall Street when the Nsx was being designed, the benchmark was the 328. but once the 348 came out, Honda had to improve it some more. the performance is very similar between the Nsx with the 3.0 engine and the 348. when the 355 came out, Honda responded by releasing the na2 model with the 3.2 liter and 6 speed tranny. it closed the gap but the 355 still had slightly more top end. you are still compared a car that was slightly over rated at 375hp vs. 290-300hp car. it was when the 360 came out, that is when Honda got really left behind unless you get your hands on a na2 NSXR.
@gheorghefiliuta15325 жыл бұрын
yes ,the 348 actually lost to the NSX ,because off the handling
@MichaelJames-lz7ni4 жыл бұрын
Power-to-Weight ratio was the culprit....348 handling was 'fine', it was the off-the-line acceleration that was problematic when comparing to the NSX.

2:30 Massive torque but it only makes 2:00 229tq and 312hp out of a 32v 3.5 V8. Some sedans of the 90's are faster also why not buy a C4 Corvette ZR-1 this is like the porsche boxster of Ferrari's in performance but it doesn't look bad.
@oj71774 жыл бұрын
At the time it had great power. The testarossa made 390 hp from a 5.0 l, the nsx made 274 from a 3.0 l, porsche 911 made 250 hp from a 3.6 l and had less torque than the 348. Nowadays 300 hp is kinda normal and 324 nm is standard with all these turbo engines. But what is still unique is the driving experience The only sedan faster than the 348 was the opel omega lotus (lotus carlton). We could argue that in a circuit the carlton would have been left behind. It was like an m5, as fast as you want in straights, but in corners can't keep up with a 488. The corvette was heavier and wasn't as sharp as the ferrari, it wasn't as refined and (imo) wasn't as good looking as the 348. The corvette was more a testarossa competitor i believe. I think that the boxster of ferrari in performance was the mondial, especially the first one. The mondial was a comfy 2+2, but the first model was slow, it made 0-60 in 8 seconds :/ Or the 208 turbo, that wasn't slow, but a 308 was faster. But the 208 born because of fuel crisis and high taxes in italy, a smaller engine was much cheaper
