The nice thing about retropie is that you can configure it as you see it. If you only want arcade games you can do that. If you only want console games you can do that too. The fun part is you have total control over the games you want to add. 🙂 Or you could add everything mwahahah! 😅

With the PlayStation emulator lr pcsx rearmed you can turn on bilinear filtering to make the games look better. Select and X then video options.

BY FAR the most helpful set up video I have seen so far, and I am Just about to start into trying this, I have been really wanting to do this for a long time, and your clip here has it all, thank you so much! Do you think the Pi4 is the way to go for Today? I only want to start with This 32gig image, but do you think its better to go with a 4 these days? Pi4 uses a different image. For Classic Arcade game emulation & early game consoles (8 bit & 16 bit) Pi3 has enough power. Pi4 is good for Dreamcast, Xbox, Playstation & new Arcade games (90s).

No raspberry pi is capable of running PlayStation 2, Xbox, or GameCube. The most you can do is Sega Dreamcast and Sony PSP on a raspberry pi 4 but even then it's not full speed unless your overclock and even then you will still get stuttery sound.

When I download the image my u torrent doesn't see the file and doesn't work can I use any torrent for files and also when I did get a image finally the disk imager didn't work either is there a alternative??

Very helpful! Although I have to say, the amount of set-up and multiple variations seems quite overwhelming and almost enough to make it seem not worth it. That's no fault of yours, just the way it's designed. For example, I have to mods to find games (emulationstation and attract mode). I have to set up both, set up my controller for both, and do a lot of setup, downloading, etc...maybe it's just overwhelming because it's new to me, but man it seems like a lot! Dumb question for you, how do I turn the pi off when I'm done? I assume I need to back out to a menu and shut down like a regular PC, or do I just hit the power button on the SWITCH?

Matthew Baile - your first thoughts are “correct” - it can be overwhelming & complicated! That’s why the iCard 60-in-1 & iCade 19-in-1 and Pandora Boxes are popular...as they are much “simpler” BUT that simplicity results in fewer games OR missing that one game you really want!

To turn the R-Pi OFF - from within Attract Mode - go to the RETROPIE Sub-menu - choose the Shutdown. Wait 5 - 10 seconds...then remove the power to the R-Pie.

@@scottfarrar3441 I hear ya. I'm a huge fan of the fighting games and that's where my focus will be, but i want to learn how to do things myself and really understand them. It's a lot at first but your video has helped tremendously. Out of curiosity, how does mapping the buttons work on something like a Recroom Masters cabinet go? I suppose you have to map things differently depending on what control pad you buy (SNES vs. XBox, etc.) so using this in an arcade cabinet would be no different.

Matthew Baile - initially that’s how it was done (by a lot of people). Now, you will hook a switch up to the GPIO pins on the R-Pie to turn the game ON & OFF. Several videos out there on how to do that. If you watch those from “Detroit Love” (Carl) he covers this and more! My videos on this part won’t be released for sometime (during 2020).

Does RetroPie allow you to turn off diagonal inputs for specific games like Pac-Man or Rally-X? I've noticed in the past that since these games were not expecting the possibility of both an "up" and a "right" at the same time errors can occur such as getting stuck in places you shouldn't get stuck. It would need to be configurable per game because of course most games DO need diagonals.

NO. A diagonal is actually two switches making contact at the same time (for example UP & LEFT). The computer is still receiving those 2 inputs and the game ROM is still processing them. This is why many gamers have several cabs with different joysticks in them - 4-way and 8-way. There are joysticks you can purchase that let you manually switch them between games - I don’t own any of them so I can’t recommend anything to you.

@@scottfarrar3441 A hardware solution is best, true, but it would be easy to add this capability to the source code for games that are 4-way only. Basically something like (this is pseudo-code): If control_up Then result = up ElseIf control_down Then result = down ElseIf control_right Then result = right ElseIf control_left Then result = left EndIf controller_input = result Normally these inputs are OR'd together* so that there can be a result with a combination of more than one direction, but for 4-way specific games that would not be the case and the above code would only send one input direction to the control handler. * For example, control_up could have a value of 1, control_right could have a value of 2, control_down could be 4 and control_left could be 8, so: control_up = 0000000000000001 control_right = 0000000000000010 control_down = 0000000000000100 control_left = 0000000000001000 So if you pushed up and right at the same time those values would get OR'd together: control_up = 0000000000000001 OR'd with control_right 0000000000000010 = 0000000000000011 Anyway, I would prefer a hardware solution because it is easier to implement but I haven't had too much luck finding a controller with a 4-way gate option (switchable on and off preferably).

There is a lot of hidden gems in this build. In the emulation station front if you go to retro pie there is a menu item for rom collections (castlevania, final fantasy, etc.) what is that and how do I add those collections?

Buckshot - I’ve only played DL a few times (way back when it first came out). I have not tried the Daphne games on this image so I can’t answer your question (Good vs Bad).

Excellent video. I'm using a MacBook and once the files were downloaded ready to make them into 1 files, I didn't have an open to "extract" once I highlighted the files, so I compressed them into a zip file. Will this work as well in regards to moving the file to the SD card? Thank you

I received the img via bit torrent, it already was an img file which was weird, it was the same file from arcade punks but it showed corrupted data when I went to open it...of course I'm new to all of this.

Some controllers can be used wirelessly - some can't...it's a little complicated...and I haven't look at those details since Winter 2019. I used a wire controller and a Dongle for a "wireless" Xbox controller.

I’ve run into an issue that I need help with, I have a raspberry pi 4B plus. I have downloaded several different raspberry pi four builds from arcade punks but unfortunately, every time I put the image on an SD card and start up the raspberry pi it will load up the emulator software, although none of the Roms are ever on the pi after it boots up. I have tried this with various sized builds ranging from 32 GB all the way up to 512 and always get the same result. Also I have tried builds from multiple different creators, including Wulfinoz etc. I really don’t understand why every one of these images i load up never have any of the roms on the unit. I have also attempted to use a program where I can access the Rams from a Windows PC, and after I mount the card and access it, the rom folders are emptyI have no idea what I am doing wrong, and why none of the torrents I get from arcade punks have any of the Roms in the build, even though the images are large enough to contain a vast amount of Roms. Just as a sidenote, I have tried different SD cards, which were all genuine Top quality brand names.i have also tried all of the image writing softwares that people recommend such as etcher etc.but alway get the same result.if anybody has any ideas of what I could be doing wrong here or if there is something I am overlooking please let me know it would be a huge help because at this point I am stumped. I have spent countless hours over the last few weeks, searching forums, reading through websites and watching multiple videos, shockingly, I have not found one single person that mentions having the same issue i am having which is discouraging …One theory I have is my computer has antivirus, software, and Windows defender running when I download these image files . I’m wondering if somehow having antivirus and Windows defender running, could somehow be causing the images to lose the ROM files, or corrupt the image, somehow this is the only thing I think could possibly be causing this issue, but I am unsure. So if anybody has any tips or ideas, what could be causing this problem or what I am doing wrong please let me know. I will be extremely grateful.

Some games do NOT load. Example Arcade - Hunchback. The emulator for this ROM is set to IR-mame2003 but changing it for ANY of the included Emulators still does not play. ANY IDEAS ????????????????????????????

It will not work with the pi 4 because It is running version 4.4.1 of RetroPie. Support for the Raspberry Pi 4 didn't come until version 4.6 of RetroPie. It may be possible to upgrade this image to the latest (currently 4.7.1), but I have not tried that.

NO...you do not need RetroPie already on the SD Card as it is part of the Wolfanoz image.

Remy Halo - I have not done a 4-player setup for Retropie although I would think it would be similar to a 2-player controllers setup. Search KZfaq for “retropie multiple controllers” and u should find a video to provide a solution on configuring Retropie with 4 controllers.

The torrents files form Arcadeunks once downloaded are in BIN format not IMG; how to change the format?

Make sure you have winrar downloaded, then select all the bin files. Right click and select “extract all to ---“ and it will have the name of the folder it’s going to extract all those bins to so that when it’s finished you’ll be left with a single img file

I have download the Arcade1Up.Ready.5.4.Ratio.Wolfanoz.Edit-Level1Online.img from ArcadePunks and i love it cos i dont like Attract mode with the many screens and flashes etc. But i meet a problem. As i try to see some of the game configs i realise that i can change the buttons as i like on each game and save it. After few days i try to select Daphne emulator with dragons lair but it not works. As the game video starts, it plays and after 20-25seconds video stops and restarts.When i press COIN to start game it quits to the Daphne emulator menu with the rest games. So could be a kind of dmg of the (compressed?) DVD in the emulator? or what could be happened? Maybe i will rewrite the img again but i need to change so many buttons on over 30-40 games that i like and play. Do you know why could that happened?

mackie - No. The game list from ES is used to generate the game list for AM. However, Favorites can be different for ES and AM -and- the “groupings” on the ES Menu and AM Menu can be different - I’ll be covering that in an upcoming video!

Jun Reyes - yes...the image will work on either the 3B or 3B+. I have both and have verified that scenario. FYI - I use my 3B for my early Console System games (NES, SNES, Genesis, C64, Atari 2600) and 3B+ for my ARCADE games...but either 3B or 3B+ works.

@@scottfarrar3441 definitely, I heard it was in the works. I have an arcade machine with his pi3 arcade only games build and love it.... some games don't run well like 3d games. but the pi 4 from what im hearing can. I'm anxious for the upgrade, just waiting on wolfanzo at the moment.

Older Xbox Controllers use 2.4Ghz proprietary protocol - u have to buy a MS dongle ($20). This include the following - Original, 360, One and One Elite. The One S (released in 2016) contains Bluetooth! This can be used wirelessly w/o the MS dongle.

@@scottfarrar3441 Yeah I did some research after asking and saw that there are two different versions of the Xbox One controller and am buying 2 locally that have Bluetooth. It's easy to tell the difference as the ones with Bluetooth are single molded plastic across the entire top of the controller versus the non-Bluetooth one that has a separate cut out around the guide button.
