"And now for something completely different" From Monty Python. Popped into my head for some reason. Being a electronics technician, your brain works just like mine. Good troubleshooting process. Anyone with the same problems would find this video useful. It's probably that dust clogging up the works deeper inside the solenoid. Any Trotter Van vids coming?

Most wheelchairs and scooters have self-diagnostic indicators that often pinpoint the problem from the start. It is usually how many beeps or flashes of lights. You then compare that number of flashes to the model’s troubleshooting guide and it will tell exactly, or give a general area of the problem. Always better to do than to just start taking it apart as in this video.

The armature in the relay is stuck because of all the dust etc. it has accumulated over the years. If you had sprayed WD40 around the armature while you had it apart it would free up with no damage to the relay. Hold it so the work side of the armature is slightly down from horizontal, spray in the top of the opening, and watch the crap run out the bottom. Rotate occasionally while keeping the same angle horizontally and spray until the stuff coming out is clear. Good as new but this is probably too late....

so took off the ebrake, the coil is potted in resin, so no chance of cleaning it, I did though clean off the clutch surfaces ( the clutch was stuck on when I got the scooter), the ebrake does get quite warm to the touch, resistance is 49 ohmn which is ok, not sure if they should get warm or stay cool?

As simple as that magnetic brake module is, that would be a piece of cake to fix. However, the drive voltage to operate it could be the problem. And that is either a relay operated or a MOSFET switch. Either are simple to diagnose and replace. JMHO

And there's the rub - the companies that make and market these machines have no shame - they take advantage of the most vulnerable citizens. They charge prices affordable by few, put the products through minimal to no quality assurance testing, warranty the batteries through 3rd parties for 6months to a year max, and the remainder of the machines for 1to 3 years making the purchaser jump through almost impossible hoops to prove that the machine was not "abused." If every senior or disabled person could posess the knowledge, skill and physical strength shown here, there wouldn't be so many isolated, lonely people sitting at home with no way to get out and about. Oh and don't forget that you must only use these on well paved surfaces, during dry weather - they can't figure out a way to waterproof -- like cars, bicycles, shoes, baby carriers , etc.

I picked up a gogo ultra x for hobbie purposes, and will admit this scooter is a little bit frustrating to figure out at first. 2 things i noticed right away--first: pride mobility says there is no bypass for or disconnection of the speed controller (supposedly there isn't one). This is not true. There is no speed limiter aside from the adjustment knob on dash. It can be bypassed which defualts to top speed. Second: the electric brae can be removed and bypassed from the controller. (Tricked into thinking its there when its completely disconnected. I have added a 24v led light and connected it directly to brake harness plug. This has increased the range of my Mobility Scooter beyond the 8 Mile maximum. Battery does not drain as quickly now the electronic brake has been removed

what is the purpose of the electronic brake anyway besides causing problem? All it is doing to locking up the motor. Plus from what I see, it has to have constant voltage applied to it in order to press against the spring so the motor can turn. What am I missing?

@@retrorestore At 11:20 time frame as you are about to take the spring out, isn't there suppose to be a yoke of some sort inside the spring? Doesn't the magnetic field of the coil act on that yoke pulling it down and perhaps the yoke's top edge lip of it cover the spring and by that top edge it pulls the spring down, realesing the tension. Maybe that is why the solenoid is not working. The coil as you said had the right resistence spec. How else would the tension of the spring be released? I doubt if the magnetic field works on the spring itself. I would assume it does but it won't be concentrated enough to exert enough force on it to compress it. Also if you look closer at the pressure plate , the third piece you took out looks like it is upside down backwards. There is clear circular recess in the center of it. Doesn't that recess part suppose to face down toward the spring, si the spring and the yoke gets seated and alighned in the center and straight up just for good operation? Furthermore the recessed part is circular, not 6 sided or whatever so to accomodate that motor yoke. I bet if you flip over that pressure plate you will see the marking of the motor yoke against it. It is my detective inside telling me. It is just an idea. I am no expert. I think somehow someobody forgot to put the yoke back on, then got the pressure plate installed backwards.. if this thing had been worked on before.....I don't know.
