In October of 1987 the stock market crashed 20% in a single day and scared everyone to death. We were in the middle of the Cold War with constant threat of nuclear war. There was all sorts of fear about the future. There is always fear and uncertainty. If you were unabashedly optimistic during that time you were either very young (like I was) or totally out of touch with reality. You can be just as optimistic today as you may have been back then. It’s just a mindset. 50% of the world was living in abject poverty back then and now it’s less than ten. We have had incredible technological advancements and nearly everyone is living a better life compared to then. It’s easy to look back and forget about all the fear, and I think that’s a good thing. 40 years from now people will probably look back and say the same things about today.

Remember that last month before summer vacation and how it was more laid back for us kids in 6,7 grade because we didn’t have to worry about graduating yet. 8th graders had different feelings towards the last month of school.. 8th and 12th we remember those days and feelings.. I graduated high school in 1987. I can attest to a new feeling of optimism being in the air around that time. I tool my first love to see Top Gun, and then I walked her home. No phones, no internet. How did we survive? Quite well, actually. I miss simpler times.

The synthesizer beats, VHS like graphics, all say 1987. It was my first full year of college, when I still was adjusting to shock of my father dying he year before. I remember Robocop and motorcycles and Star Trek: The Next Generation. Night clubs seemed fun rather than dangerous, and the world offered promise. I remember a girl I'd met at a laser light show who'd asked for my number; this was so long ago that when I went back to college we wrote letters. Initially I was enthralled, but she came from a troubled family with problems, and tried "testing" things with me by claiming she went on a family vacation then owning up she'd gone with a violent ex-boyfriend, then dumped me when my reaction was this girl had problems rather than being enraged. I looked her up several years ago, she'd become an uppity businesswoman with a spiky haircut, transferring one set of angst for another. But mostly I remember an incredibly shy and withdrawn girl I spent almost two years trying to talk to her before she opened up to me and we became close. We had two rounds of it seeming to work out then falling apart. It seemed inevitable things wouldn't work out, we were both immature and inexperienced. I moved on to degrees and jobs, she dropped out of school and never moved out of the house. I feel sad for her, but don't know what I could have done.

1987 my random thoughts: Waking up and riding on the BMX all morning. Played Mike Tysons punchout for hours on Nintendo Going to the mall to play at the arcade and always one guy that was surrounded with kids in awe of his video game skills. Going to the skating rink (jammed pack) and the cool skaters wearing parachute pants and the members only jacket Great memories and great music.

For me personally the 80s reached their peak from 1984-early 86 hitting its zenith in '85. From late '86 onwards it was all downhill. I graduated Class of '86.

I get recommend some of the stupidest timesink junk here on KZfaq. But today ain't it. This is an amazing album. Added to the collection. Oceanwave and Teenage Years are my favorite. Wrong Number sounds like something straight out of Hotline Miami. If they ever make a 3rd one, they should get you to make the music.
