After 16 years out of service, LMS Class 3F Jinty 47357 has returned to service at the Midland Railway Butterley following completion of overhaul. The engine became a celebrity in the 1970s and 80s when it was outshopped in LMS lined Maroon livery and given its LMS number 16440 which it had when in service with the LMS when first completed.
47357 has returned to its LMS lined Maroon livery and LMS number 16440 again, that it carried in the 70s and 80s. It isn't authentic as none of the Jintys ever carried this livery, but I don't care, its different and it looks gorgeous. It looked immaculate and smart. I really like this livery and personally think it suits the engine.
The weekend of 29th - 30th June 2024, saw the launch weekend for 16440, we attended on the Sunday. We spent the first half of the day filming at Butterley, whilst the rest of the day was spent at Swanwick. We even decided to take a ride behind 16440, though that hadn't been filmed by me. Was really pleased with the variety of shots that I got.
