In this video, we get a glimpse into one of the leading voices in ministry today, Rev. Dr. Howard-John Wesley. He shares his journey, entailing his ups & downs, battle with accepting his call into the ministry, his recent sabbatical. Often times, as Pastor Charles Jenkins said, sometimes when you pastor, people forget that you're a person. May this brief discussion be liberating and freeing to someone, particularly those who are tasked with the daily battles of ministry day in & out.

Seeing this video, after June 2024, after hearing his statement about pride month & homosexuality, & learning & seeing who he allows to be “leaders & the voice of this ministry” is an eye opener. Wow!!!!! So calm, so cool to allow folks to read from the passion version of the word.

I thank God for Pastor Wesley everyday!!! I respect his authenticity and humbleness. Many spiritual/religious leaders are going to be surprised that they got God and the Bible wrong. I love the fact that he doesn’t try to force or put God in a box. Everyone isn’t Black or white, heterosexual or homosexual. Thank God for that. I am not going to argue and go back in forth with others that want to interpret scripture literally and haven’t done the scholarly work of looking at the original audience, context and content of hot button topics. Scripture has been misused in the past to oppress women and condone slavery. “Read/study your Bible, it will make you a better Christian.” Pastor HJW’s quote. Don’t only surround yourself around others that think like you, there is no growth (mentally or intellectually). There is nothing new under the Sun. There have always been & always will be lgbtqi (Same Gender Loving) individuals in the Black church. Being a part of that community is not a sin or lifestyle. Live and let live. No one can throw stones. It will only be by the mercy and grace (the Blood) 36:30 of Jesus Christ that Any of Us make it into Heaven. God is the final judge. Peace

It’s interesting, to come in thinking or calling the colllar or the calling of pastoral ship/minister as a mask, At any point of it! After reading about ELIJAH, I do understand why it’s called for us to be “friendless”.

As Christians as well as ministers, our opinions and beliefs should be based on and aligned with the Bible, the word of God. He is and His word should be our standard. What is the point of being a minister/ pastor if they are not going to teach people God’s ways? Last time I checked, the Gospel of Jesus Christ is supposed to convict us and motivate us to turn away from sin, not sit in church and act like I’m fine and all is well with me. The things that Howard John Wesley said in this interview should make everyone that profess to be a Christian pause and seriously think. When a pastor or minister’s actions and when they start using the words progressive, liberal, and being more open-minded, people need to run in the opposite direction! They and their church should be avoided at all costs.

Amen. Forgiveness is the first order... as we see Jesus on the cross -- forgives First!!! Thank you for this venue, God bless you! I know it's easier to say Black Church but...no such thing - and yes, we deal with history, culture and traditions primarily in America. When we say "Black Church" -- that's very American, and connected to the American experience for those whose roots came through the era of American slavery (for slavery we can see through thousands of years, in various nations) therefore our experience we want to frame it better to properly heal, to live out Christ for all nations, and advance the kingdom of God. Lord, help us not to be bond by the concepts of this fallen world... Hallelujah! The Church is on the rise... Jesus is coming soon!! Amen.

Praise the Lord Saints! Love this, I am a preacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and I serve in the vocation of counseling -- Self Care is essential; that's why Jesus says - love your neighbor as you love yourself. That is where too many miss it -- love yourself, too many abuse ourselves and/or have been subjected to abuse that has not been addressed, not been healed -- and that comes out in a way - "love church, hate people," etc. Praying for the Saints, praying for our Spiritual Leaders -- and excited what God is doing in this season!!!

JUDAS was the tool and catalyst GOD used , throughout biblical scripture this was done..... one of the greatest mega church preacher's....JUDAS was the tool and catalyst GOD used , throughout biblical scripture this was done , their is a political front in every mega church existence just pay attention

To be more like Jesus, he accepted ALL. We're all sinners saved by the grace of God. We all want to be accepted by people but accepted by God is the greatest acceptance. I can still love you and disagree with how you're living, its for me to demonstrate the love of Christ by how I'm living...AKA Light of the world so if the LGBTQ community can see me loving myself AND others like Jesus, maybe they will change their lives but who are we to turn them away from CHRIST church? How would we feel if the Lord closed the church doors on us for our sins, the word of God says to exam ourselves and if there's anything unlike him remove it? Love thy neighbor as you Iove yourself...how are you loving yourself? Is it like Christ? We leave the judging to Christ. Learn to agree to disagree and still love. Be the spark that sets the world on fire for Christ. We all have our own cross to bear but just maybe my love for my bro/sis, accepting them like Christ will help both of us bear it a bit easier. IJS.

You can still love someone and tell them the truth of the Lord. Love is not total 100% acceptance of what someone does. We are to judge each other with righteous judgment.

Pastors are supposed to preach against sin. Preaching against homosexuality does not make someone oppressed. People need to be taught that it is wrong and help them turn away from it just like any other sin. You cannot serve God and be engaged in an open sin. This “preacher” is on the wrong path and should be avoided.

@@bettywilliams7538The point of being a Christian minister/pastor is to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. That is to teach men, women, boys, and girls that we are sinners in need of a savior. That Jesus died on the cross for our sins and through His shed blood , we have remission of sins. By believing and confessing this , we are redeemed and we don’t have to go to spend eternal death in hell. Once we are saved, the job of the pastor is to teach people what it means to be a Christian, a follower, a disciple of Christ. Teaching people how to live and live holy before God; and when we sin, all we have to do is ask for forgiveness and turn away from that sin. The idea is not to make people feel comfortable in their sin and that all is well. Christian people and pastors are to tell people when we are doing wrong in love. Love is not complete 100% total acceptance of what someone does. When you love someone you tell them the truth. Sin separates people from God. When a saved person is engaged in an active sin, the Lord does not hear our prayers. We are quenching the Holy Spirit. Our bodies are temples. The word of God is supposed to make people uncomfortable. It is supposed to convict us and motivate us to turn away from our sin. Being a homosexual Christian is an oxymoron. Meaning, that it is impossible. It is a contradiction. For many reasons, many ministers and pastors have gone “soft” to not “offend” people to be “politically correct” and to gain members even though they know they will lose other members that is not going to stand for this. These ministers are watering Christianity down. In the last days, there will be a “great fallen away”. This is called apostasy-fallen away from the Truth. Unfortunately, this pastor is one of the them and the church he presides over should be avoided.

@@bettywilliams7538If you think I’m wrong, rewatch this video. Pay attention to what he says. Howard John Wesley said out of his own mouth that he was banned from preaching from the National Baptist Convention. Also, go and view several of his sermons on KZfaq and analyze them closely. Judge everything he says by the Bible. Don’t get fooled because he may say a lot of truthful things. These types of preachers should be avoided by all costs anyway because when ministers disregard sin and don’t push repentance you reject everything they have to say. That is the whole point of being a pastor.
