SAME. I have watched several history documentaries about Cleopatra, and also Empress Wu from ancient China. Smear campaigns of ancient female rulers abound.

The doll isn't misshapen at all ! They just rounded out cleos face in that doll mold since that doll is a rerelease from 2014-15 !! That aside the work u did on cleo is absolutely spectacular!

@@WormBeetle I don't think the roundness is bad! But I personally prefer the thinner mold, just because it makes her look more mature and refined compared to the rest of the ghouls. I also think it fits her character better. I hope this doesn't cause controversy lol

Those eyes are practically glowing, Cleo turned out so beautiful, There are so many that I want to see in your style but Ghoula and Laguna (I feel like you've done her but I don't know now) in your style. between the music you play and your voice these videos have helped me unwind and destress from life and work thank you.

I actually liked the flatter face on the other Cleo doll - made her look more ethnically diverse. I think the head you swapped out could make a good head for an Asian-inspired doll! :)

Try 3rd grade Geography since you seem so ignorant of where Egypt is (if you didn’t know: it’s in North Africa) Any real historian would know that “whiteness” is a construct. Even if we ignore that, Ancient Egyptians are not white... please take your pseudo history elsewhere

@National Socialism I have no idea who told you the people who needed a dark pigment around their eyes due to the sun and quite literally worked days and days under the heat were white in the slightest. As they evolved through time, the pigmentation of the skin got darker. However, this isnt to say some parts of egyptians were lighter. As we see today, there is a gradation of skin towards Sudan. Some might have been white in race due to Greece - their skin was most definitely darker than a Europeans.

I love her! I have always had a love of Ancient Egyptian culture and style. It made me so happy to see you take the traditional style and modernize it without losing the spirit of the original. I would love to see you do a Operetta doll in the future.

The really interesting part is Cleopatra VII Philopator, didn't even live during ancient Egyptian times, the pyramids were already thousands of years old by the time she was around. It really starts to put into perspective how fucking old Egyptian history is.

Every single time I watch these I desperately wish doll manufacturers had better technology to print more unique, detailed, and modern designs on their dolls, It’s such a shame that doll designers have to be restrained by the limitations of their printers, because watching faceups like these really shows how incredible dolls could be if that barrier wasn’t there.

The face mold difference is probably due to the signature doll being a later release, you can tell by her clothing, after a few re-releases they started giving her a simple black edge on her top instead of the lace in earlier releases

I think the misshapen head is just from the 2013-2014 re-release Mattel did, but I could be wrong.

@@eochiiii ‘Scholars generally identify Cleopatra as essentially of Greek ancestry with some Persian ancestry. This is based on the fact that her Macedonian Greek family - the Ptolemaic dynasty - had intermarried with the Seleucid dynasty that ruled over much of West Asia.’ I think people get ethnicity and nationality mixed as she was born in Egypt and spent her life there.

I love the gold in the hair, I'm so glad you were able to work it in and make it look elegant rather than.... (I have adjectives for this but they're all too mean, so let's go with-) not. The kohl looks great, and I loved hearing the background about it too! She has a gaze that makes sense for a powerful female ruler who ruled with her intelligence rather than seductive powers: smart, assessing, thoughtful. Excellent work, and as always thank you for sharing with us!

Incredible! And I am much glad you didn’t give up on the gold hair, I actually think it looked better braided in with the yarn! The historical information was quite enjoyable too, very beautiful face up too! The metallic paint was an excellent touch! As for the next doll, I’d say Lagoona could use your magic touch poor thing.

I'm glad that you keep the original outfits for each doll instead of making new ones! it makes it so interesting because it feels like an actual revamp. Usually a lot of the revamps I have seen they even redo the clothing into something else. It makes the dolls feel like the originals in a way. Its like originals with your own kind of twist to it and that's what makes them so unique I love them so much! its amazing what you do!

Actually, watching a doll face-up AND a history lesson that corrects misinformation and deliberate character assassination about a prominent female ruler is SO UP MY ALLEY. I love and appreciate it. I hate that sexuality is used to demean historical figures -- sometimes male too, but usually female. Your mini-rant and this face-up are a nice tribute to history. And film history. The movies may have been serving lies, but the actresses were serving LOOKS. 👑

Aaaaaah love how Cleo turned out, and really enjoyed hearing about the research you did around Cleopatra too! It's always exciting to see that attention to detail woven in! ^^ In terms of next dolls, I'd be very interested in Porter Geiss, Invisi-Billy, or Spectra I think? I lean a little toward the guy dolls because they're less common and would offer another visual angle for the group.

I think this revamp really suits her character. Cleo has always strikes me as the rich girl who always flaunts her fortune and status as royalty. This look really shows how she flaunts her status and her culture while making it look like she's still fresh off a runway not just fresh out a sarcophagus. Like she'd definitely brag about every little detail of her look and it's historical meaning.

For lagoona, PLEASE use long directly untwisted yarn instead of brushed out. I really want her to have long wavy hair as i think it would be a good contrast from clawdeen's

Edit: I don't remember the character's name, but I recall there being a centaur monster high doll, and I would LOVE to see you repaint that one, especially looking at your work with the Fawn dolls!

Its kinda weird how Cleopatra's sexuality has become demonized when Hathor, a goddess known just as much for her sexual nature as her nurturing and motherly one, was such a prominent deity in ancient Egypt. Almost makes you wonder where such a narrow world view might have come from... (@ Christian colonizers reducing any vaguely sexual/romantic religious figures to "fertility goddesses" 👀)

Omgg, so pretty, the blue of the eyes are popping so much with the black and gold, and the hair fits so perfectly, and even more accurate to the egipcian style than the original, I LOVE HER!!! You could really do Laguna next, she is going to be so adorable in your style, I'm so exited to see her or any other character, bc all would look amazing in your style!!!

I adore the fact that you talked about the history of Cleopatra, I've been obsessed with her since a little kid and I have like no patience for the surface level "hurhur sexy lady evil" takes on her. I would ABSOLUTELY love a history focused series of doll repaints
