Seeing this makes me stop worrying about ai art replacing concept artist. All of this mimics a character sheet, but is utterly useless, inconsistent and bad generic design. On top of that the character can not be copyrighted xD Really look at the proportions, angels and details. This only looks like a character sheet at first glance or for people who don't have any proper training. For now Character Designers are save xD

This isn't going to replace the skill of real artists. Think of this as a tool that improves what everyone can do 20%. If you're a 10/10 artist all this does is make me a 2/10 artist and turn you into a 12/10 artist. Your personal skill gap hasn't changed.

I 100% agree. I think that when you combine a true artist with these concepts, THEN you'll see something amazing. I think this takes the people with 0 skills and gives them a better baseline, but the real magic is when you take an artist with an actual sense of angles and proportion and color...that's where something really magical happens.

I just released a new video on character consistency. I think that background consistency is really hard right now. The way to do it is to create your character with a flat white background and then crop them out and put into the setting. That way it's a re-usable background.

There is actually to major missbeliefs people have who can't draw, but want to be able to do the same as people who can. Firstly the false narrative that you need to have a born talent to do be able to do it, secondly that it takes tremendous amount of effort to get really good. These are the only things holding them back and causing them to celebrate ai image generation. In most cases you don't even need to be that good at drawing to make your own Comic. Most of them don't get far enough to be afraid of the process. They don't even get far enough to know anything about any art making process. People who can draw are just like wizards to them. They believe we are born with magic powers.

That's an interesting idea. It's hard to control the language. But I see where you're coming from. It's a lot of vowels all in a row to say...but i'll give it a try.

You mean the background behind me? That's interesting. I spend a lot of time tweaking the lights, but when I record during the day it's so bright here on the equator it doesn't look as perfect. But maybe I'll make some tweaks. Might look into blackout curtains.

I agree. It's for coming up with ideas, testing poses, replicating a character in different settings. I see it as a tool to help artists, not replace them. It's when you combine your expertise with Midjourney that really amazing things will happen.

Thanks for spending the time. I agree with you. The really exciting future is when solo artists use tools like this to create faster and now they can create comic books on their own. That's the exciting future I'm thinking about.

Being good in drawing and not wanting to draw the same thing over and over don't really go together. Sounds like dunning-kruger to me. You need practice to be good in drawing.

That's exactly the right idea. You can use a tool like this to create multiple mockups of your character and test them in different settings. This is a way to accelerate artists, not replace them.

How about just idk, get some self discipline and draw the comic. and if you don't think you are good enough practice and even after hours of practicing u feel like u haven't improved, just make it anyway even if u don't like your art. Stories are about having a soul, some semblance of meaning and most often about what it means to be human. No AI can make a compelling story about the nature of being human because no AI is human (obviously). If you try use AI, your comic will be ass. If you don't wanna draw, write a book instead. If you don't wanna do either of those, then maybe you didn't wanna actually make it in the first place.

I didn't know this video would be so divisive. Sneakers that make you run faster, will make a better run faster too. This tool can make artists do even more amazing things...not replace them.

I'm on both sides of this. ChatGPT read my book and can talk in my exact tone of voice. So I know what it's like to have an AI clone me without permission, I can either get upset or find a way to adapt. I think the artists who learn to use AI tools to do things faster are going to skyrocket to the top. In no way do I think AI can replace true artistry. This is a tool to take people with 0 artistic ability and give them basic artistic ability. Thanks for the love!

No good artists use AI? so I feel as if the point that "they are idiots who suck at art" makes no sense. Actually it is the people who are not self confident, or very bad at art who use AI. Because Good artists can make far more compelling images than AI. Also people who do not use AI, would know that non-AI art takes time, therefore be more willing to pay artists. Unlike AI-bros who think art is just 3 words in a prompt. People who are bad at art, or cannot be bothered are the ones who use AI image generation generally

Unless you have paid an artist 500 dollars or more within the last month your opinion is dumb and irrelevant. Go back in time and tell artists that photography or photoshop isn’t art.

The future is coming. I didn't make this tool. I just told you how it works. This is the same thing record labels tried to do in the late 1990s to stop online music. The freight train of technology ran right over them. The bands who adapted the fastest were the winners. You can either complain or adapt and thrive. All I can do is show you the water...can't make you drink it.

The real point is that artists can now work 10x faster, and try 10x more ideas. This helps artists more than anyone else.

I think you missed the point of this video. This is a new tool that exists. You can't put the genie back in the bottle. We used to say that using calculators to do math was soulless. But now we all use them. The future is coming whether we want it to or not. Will this replace artists? Certainly not. Should artists start thinking about how they can use tools like this to accelerate their work? Certainly yes.

(You could say math is by definition soulless because it is the definition of "rational" and "logical" but that is a different topic ;-) ) Just because you CAN build / program something, doesn't mean you should. I am sick of all those people who think what can be done must be done. And who compare it to things that are not comparable - like a calculator to AI. It is not comparable! Doing the same routine stuff over and over again is perfect for a machine (or a calculator). AI is not just a robot, it cannot be controlled by the user exactly like a calculator. It is (kinda) controlled and fed, yes - but by whom? Who can you trust if big tech feeds it with things you don't agree with so the results are manipulated? And about the genie out of the bottle thing: In the industrial revolution there were great disruptions and jobs got replaced. Yes, that went out (mostly) well, but the new jobs could be done by almost the same people. You cannot teach everybody how to program or do advanced IT stuff if those are completely average people. This is why the new wave of technology is so dangerous. And no, there is no utopia where nobody has to work anymore... Build an AI that cleans my house or the toilet and does all the mundane tasks that nobody wants to do, then we can talk! But not an AI that takes away one thing that makes life more beautiful: Art done by humans who did it with passion. To go sci-fi for one moment: I wish for big tech to collapse. All those connected and "smart" things are useless if the "master brain" is shutdown. Then the only thing that will still work is dumb but solid retro tech that does everything you (should) need. Social media, AI and smart technology has to die.
