Revel Kit COMPLETE Review: Worth it in 2021? (Long Term User)

In this video, I introduce the brand new PSPEC performance scoring system for electric longboards. I'm really excited to introduce this as it's something I can use to test every single board I review, as well as compare my DIY boards to prebuilt boards. I tried out a lot of things in this video, so if you want me to improve, help me out by letting me know in the comments. It took a lot of work, and I'm looking forwards to doing more reviews in the future. Eventually, I'm thinking it would be cool to have an accelerometer/gps module I can slap on the boards, so I can graph acceleration and speed more accurately

@@RBEMotion I watched some parts again and have a thought…I would love to see the RBEM and PSPEC scores merged into one overall scoring system. It could be a little confusing with two different systems in play for some riders. As a new rider I would ask which score is more important? What if two boards have “opposite” scores, one board with a higher RBEM and the other with a higher PSPEC, which board is “better”? Which should I buy? Most buyers won’t want to go into the scoring details, they just want to know what the “best” board is. Maybe a score or two on the battery pack efficiency, cell choice, construction, etc., and another score for internal layout, wiring/connection quality, etc? Something to give the rider info on how well the board was done on the inside. This could help differentiate your vids from those that just cover looks and how it rides.

Hmmm. Really great food for thought, thanks for the feedback. I didn't think of a situation where the scores could be opposing, I suppose that would be confusing. I'll have to sit back and think a bit about ways to combine them. I get what you're saying how it could be confusing, the main idea in the first place behind splitting them was so I could separate objective and subjective scoring to some extent, but I think there may be a way to combine them if I think about it for a while.

Great review! 😁 covered a lot of good points. Using 2 revel kits 4 wheel drive with evolve pneumatics is possible, but you do have to get your own adapters printed. 2 kits give the board more than enough torque and breaking power ✌️ I always found that 1 wasn’t enough for hills really, 2 definitely solves that problem.

I've heard a lot of good things about 4wd Revel kits, and honestly it's not even that expensive. I think two kits together with 120d cloudwheels or something would be a pretty fun ride. I didn't really talk about it, but it's pretty easy to pair with two drives, only takes a couple seconds. Between the extra torque and distributed load I think you get better range too

yeah i have one kit with AT wheels and its good enough, it still has faster acceleration than my friends e-scooters me but I'm pretty light so that makes sense.

@@RBEMotion well most esc have to be paired up to certain voltages. But it's based on nominal voltage so what esc would go with a 6s 8s 10s 12s. Also no one really goes into detail on the different brand esc/vesc available

Great video, I love my Revel Kit as well. Curious what aftermarket battery you used for the remote?

Thank you! I could pull up an Aliexpress link but it's probably not from that seller anymore. I used a 500mah one. If you open up the remote you can see approx what size to look for. It was definitely a great upgrade. When I rode over 10 miles before sometimes my remote would die before I finished riding If you get lucky with the sizes you find you might just be able to fit a 750mah one but 500 will be easier to find. It's a super quick soldering job, otherwise you have to find one with the exact connector.

The revel kit used to be landwheel and landwheel had 2 iterations. The l3 and l3x. So technically the revel kit has some ancestral background. I have both 👍

Yep! That's right. However, the Revel kit is the first with DD's on it. I also had an L3-X, it had some flaws for sure, and with the redesigned case and addition of direct drives, as well as upgrading to the li-ion based packs, are what make the Revel kit immensely superior to the old Landwheels!

Your sleeping on the AWD set up .. definitely makes it a elite setup . I’m 300lbs and can go up a decent sized hill at 20+ mph

Can anyone tell me about if they get wheel bite with this kit on a regular deck with a tail? it seems like the back truck cant take a riser.

It's hard to answer that without specific setup knowledge. I've had this installed on an omakase, a moonshine deck, and a couple others at the shop. Wheel size is a concern for wheel bite as well, what setup are you thinking of?

As old as it is, I do still think it is an excellent beginner board in 2023, surprisingly. Thanks for the compliment! You may find some other boards from other chinese companies that may offer a bit more range and performance for the price, but none (almost 0) have swappable batteries and the ability to use any deck you like.

open up the battery case, show how much dust has gotten in since there's no seal around it.

I'm not actually sure which part you are talking about. I've opened many of the actual batteries (60+) and they all have sealant that goes around the whole outside If I recall, the old versions did not (V1 or earlier), but all new ones, especially (V3+) have a great seal on the batteries, so dust can't really get in. If you're talking about the kit itself, it's possible a bit of dirt is inside.

@@RBEMotion shuttershock, forgot which revel it was someone posted it on Reddit after like 100 or so miles opened up the battery housing for some reason and it was all dusty inside. They were rated at IP54 at that time?

Sorry for the late reply, forgot haha Unfortunately I do not know the answer to that question, however I do know that the v1 batteries had much less sealing between the top and bottom. They were much easier to open, now with the new ones they're much tougher

I splashed puddle water inside my battery and it popped a fuse. Battery is definitely not water resistant.

I can tell you that there are definitely different versions of the battteries. The old ones were much less water resistant than the new ones, latest batch from Revel is the most water resistant yet, so much so that they're hard to open for factory service haha Anyways, I don't think it has an official rating but I'd probably stay away from water too
