I don't normally meter, never have, but 1 year later, just to try it out I just purchased one! I'm excited to see if I'm as happy with it as I think I will be. And if it makes me want to meter rather then just go go go for it. I believe I'll meter for certain scenes and not for most of what I shoot, but it will be fun to use, thanks for the great review!

The "specific 3d printing system" (SLS) also builds objects in layers. The difference is - the rough texture hides them. This, combined with the fact they most probably used nylon powder as the material, contributes to the feeling of "robustness" as well.

Well, talking about the ring... I own an Olympus OM-1 with a dead meter and I don't like the "chimney stack" shoe (at the same time, I totally love the look and feel of the OM-1 without it), so... yeah I can see myself using it!

It's possible to waterproof a circuit board by coating it with a spray on material. Maybe a waterproof version will eventually be made for a couple of extra euros/dollars.

While I really like the idea of this light meter and it's form factor, i feel that putting the oled screen where the buttons are would have made more sense. Not a deal breaker though. I'm ordering one either way.

I just had to return mine since I was quite dissapointed how poorly it was performing in cold weather. Since Denmark has pretty cold weather for few months of a year, this lightmeter will not turn on during this time. And to have light meter that works 6months of the year is not a good idea. I think it's pitty that no one discusses this issue online.

Would jump on this if it had spot metering. Of course would be a different, larger animal. Reflective is ok when you’re really close to what you want to photograph and in a few more situations/conditions, but otherwise for my type of photography (landscape) it can never replace a spot meter. The real question is, given lightmeter and other apps, is this gadget really necessary?
@imnottellingyoumynamedude
@imnottellingyoumynamedude 4 жыл бұрын
I use my phone as a light meter because none of my cameras have working/accurate or no light meter. Sometimes it’s a little annoying pulling my phone out of my pocket, unlocking my phone, and opening the app to get a reading. I think a hot shoe meter like this would be nice to have.

maybe if you can get closer to your subject with that meter, you could use it as a spot meter, in a sense... that's how i 'spot metered' using my Nikon FE2. I came close to my subject with the camera...i locked the exposure using the lever and went back to my original spot. not so much fun, yet, do-able...

I agree phone lightmeters have gotten really good, I honestly like the idea of a separate device dedicated to one thing. But one cant beat "free".

Nicos Photography Show My OM1 lightmeter doesn’t work anymore so I just use a phone app to get a general reading then adjust by eye after that. I do have a few old lightmeters as well as a couple of Sekonic ones but tend to only use them with my 120 cameras.

The lack of dials is a NEGATIVE not a positive. The Voigtlander VCII is so wonderful not only due to it's diminutive size but because it is tactile - it is so much more in keeping with the reason people go analogue because they WANT to turn those dials. And, 11+ minutes - ELEVEN+ MINUTES - to review a very basic light meter? This should be a 3 minute review, max. Sorry, but less is so much more.
@NicosPhotographyShow

The youtube game asks for longer videos, sorry. Less is less here.
@alexstarkey9087
@alexstarkey9087 3 жыл бұрын
They're different products with different selling points, if you want dials and tactility then you can just buy the Voigtländer meter, if you want a smaller, cheaper unit that does the same function then here's another option. Nobody's making you buy this or watch the full 12 minutes, I personally appreciated the longer video for the increased detail it allowed and would rather have a smaller meter without dials. Everyone has an opinion, yours isn't the end all be all to be taken as gospel. Martin.
