A history of unfulfilled promises between the Navajo Nation and the U.S. government has helped fuel one of the highest coronavirus infection rates in the country among Navajo People. The Navajo Nation imposed extensive lockdown orders, but inadequate infrastructure and lack of access to basic needs like running water is intensifying the crisis. Will the virus drive the Navajo People closer to the brink - or will it spark a rallying cry and finally lead to the relief that’s long past due?

I live in great Britain and can't even begin to understand the isolation your ppl must live through during normal circumstances. I understand that your original treaty was promised help and protection by the federal government, while retaining your sovereignty. Where is the help now? Where is the protection? I'm ashamed as a European that my ancestors caused this. I wish you well. Your ppl are so very strong but I fear with addiction and domestic violence that the younger generations strength are dwindling. Stay strong Nina K, peace be with you 💑

I am a old so-called Mexican I know I know the truth of who I really I am mixed with Native American and Spaniard We are taught that we are Mexicans but we are Native Indians that was taught Spanish by the Spaniard people along time ago if you read your history books you would find that they wasn’t any Mexicans you would find that the Spaniard head took over the native land and thought the Indian Spanish they had Spanish 🏫 Schools Wendy Spaniard one more money more taxes he moves in the white settlers to get more money because he was greedy but those white sellers hated the Spanish schools And they didn’t like the idea of not having slaves because they were so used to having slaves And they hated the Indian people so they wanted to start a war and I won the war against the Spaniard people They had the Indians go to reservations And mix Indian Spaniard people that speak Spanish was moved into Mexico along with the black speaking Spanish slaves both moves into Mexico 🇲🇽 Mexico means mix

@@carolinerowles5951 Alot of the isolation is self imposed an preferred because we are nomadic people but the distance does cause problems because most essentials are in cities located at border towns an that is a major obstacle during a pandemic. We are always at odds with the gov to uphold the treaties made,its like a never ending tug of war with red tape, as indicated by the lawsuit against the gov to rightfully have access to our covid relief. Along with a pandemic we have been dealing with a rising epidemic of addiction, domestic violence and missing/murdered native women an girls (mmiwg). I am an advocate for these urgent issues an I'm relieved there's more awareness but more needs to be done too protect the sacred. We have a long road ahead of us but if our ancestors made it thru the long walk then we can make it thru this the same way-With hope. Thank you for trying to understand an I understand Europeans couldn't have known what would happen, inevitable is all But thank you. Ironically I love learning British history. Be kind to one another an stay safe, we can make it through this. God Save The Queen🌹

Chloe Rose a place to start might be the Navajo census bureau, there are several, it depends on which area your mom was born (jurisdiction=agency) or through media like radio an newspaper on the reservation. I've had family members in the same situation, as far back as 1910 an as recent as 2005.Some made it home an some chose not to come back. There have even been Navajo children put in foster care with Mormon families in Utah. Don't give up. This reservation is big but somebody always knows somebody that knows them. I Live next to the four corners of Colorado, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico. I am originally from Connecticut. Most people in the US have NO idea what conditions that most Native Americans out west live in TODAY. My heart goes out to some of the most kind hearted & spiritual Native American people and their families! I've visited some of the reservations and national parks on the reservations many times. The Native Americans welcome you with kindness. I have witnessed first hand the living conditions that many families live in- No running water, No electricity or even the funds for much needed repairs to their homes. Many of their animals die due to lack of veterinarian care. Think of them having to share the same water sources, limited places to get food or with little to no proper medical facilities! The Navajo nation needs everyones help!!

You are correct. I do not live there but I have lived in WV and Louisiana both having rural areas-it is a difference of basic needs! Foods, water, shelter, electricity-just like third world countries and then education. All and repeat ALL humans have to learn first and once human animals are taught how to do things they can perform them. Teach how to and why viruses and bacteria spread. And just as the farmer is teaching his family and others to grow from the lands again and become self-sufficient(did you see his skin by the way??? wOw glowing! 18:40 ).

@jayjohn9707
@jayjohn9707 3 жыл бұрын
No my friend our Na Ba Ho language is nothing like any other native language that your trying to compare, example to describe blue, green, bruised, green pastures, blue sky and jewelry, we have one word for all those words so it was hard for the United states of America's enemies to break that codes, all other languages like yours were easy for our Enemies to break the codes ,and your opinion about Aztecs and ect. That you think they lived in the four corners is inaccurate because the petroglyphs tells otherwise the only one that was around that area was Anasazi and they traded back and forth with the Aztec, Mayan and ect. If you want some knowledge on this go visit Chaco canyon that's one of the main places they did trades and the Aztec brought chocolate to trade there and the NaBaHo covered the whole southwestern of the United states and the NaBaHo (Navajo) didn't build permanent houses to live in one place, they move around with the season's to hunt and plant gardens . For your knowledge the word NaBaHo comes from the Anasazi which means field people and it's being pronounced wrong and the only Anasazi left are the Acoma .Walk around the petroglyphs and you'll see that the Spaniard didn't bring the first horse ,goats,sheeps and ect.like the books and university says and ofcourse most important of all is your elders.

I'm sorry that white Jesus Christ is not real.. it is always given to people that the white man oppresses.. it makes the oppressed adaptable and compliant to White racism and oppression.. aborigine people already had a belief in one God and His Name Was Not Jesus Christ . wise individuals do not believe in a European religion that was used to oppress in the Conqueror people

I visited antolop canyon in 2018, saw even this famous attraction don't have running water in the restrooms. Unbelievable. I have also visited the Sahara twice in 2 different dunes. The Berber learned to grew vegetables in the little oasis and built tents for tourists to experience the beautiful Sahara. They have many solar panels in the Sahara and different parts of the country. I wish more funds can be available to change the situation for the first citizen of America

The comment “I’m afraid for our culture” made me realise that inadequate health care in a pandemic is in effect a version of genocide against the indigenous peoples of the USA. I hope tribal leaders are able to digitise as much as possible of their cultures before it’s lost forever.

Thank you for telling the story of the suffering of these brave long suffering First Nations people. It angers me that with millions going to corporation bailouts over yesrs the Federal government through the Bureau of Indian Affairs ( the name of that agency alone is an insult.) Has not managed to provide a water system to all households; yet they persevere and endure, trying to preserve their culture and language for their children. We, the regular Americans, the usurpers and murderers are responsible for the bad faith of our ancestors and the marginalazation of these people by more recent administrations. Abandoning them during this national tragedy is just the latest of betrayals. Everyone with spare gloves (I have a boxful bought for me by my daughter) or spare masks or spare anything should send them to the Council House of the Navajo Nation. It is little enough to do. "He who saves a single life has saved the world entire." (Paraphrased from the Talmud.)

It costs money to get water and electric. We don't live in the city where its easy access to get water, to get sewer and electric. Huge difference living in the rez. My parents finally got electric and it took years to get it. But still no water. Its a huge process to get it. Alot of paper work and approval. They did get help from the tribe but still had to pay some of it out of pocket. And where we live are very rural parts.
