Believe me, I live 27 years in Poland (and in this world) but I can’t still get used to shops closed in Sunday. It’s quite new and I miss the feeling Sunday is a nice, lazy day when you can do some shopping without rushing like in other days.

I think the high crime of the 90s left a deep and lasting impression on Polish culture with regards to Awareness of Security

As a Polish person I dislike the fact that people generally don't respect manner in public transportation - I mean being noisy. It's okay when people talk but would they do it quietly not disturbing others? Some of Polish people have the same opinion as me - we just don't talk about it open. About stealing in Poland: I haven't experienced it neither despite living in Poland my entire life, but as you I just care about my personal stuff (especially in crowded places). I think Poland is safe in this case ^^ On the other hand, I had the same feelings as you when I was in Japan. It was strange for me leaving my bag in public places, but did it anyway xD Have a nice day, Kenさん!

Oh I forgot about Sundays! We needed time to get used that almost everything is closed xD I don't remember exactly how many years passed, but in the past we had shops open in Sunday.

And I think “ free Sunday “ is a great gift. People can be more creative how to spend this free time- inviting friends, outdoors or indoors activities- not only shopping. Anyway cafe and restaurants are open 😊

I m American and went to japan. My first culture shock was how japan shop for their foods. They shop as little as in carry basket no plastic bags unless paid for while american fill loads into big shopping cart. But I love how japan shopping, not to waste lot foods n to share others

If one pass the shop every day, it's easy to shop a small amount, just for one day. If one have to go to the shop by car, once a week they will need a big shop cart and big fridge.

Closed shops on Sundays is a new thing. It's since the conservative party won elections and they decided that since church says you shouldn't work on Sundays that should be an official law 🤷 I mean it has been some years since then but most of my life I could go shopping at Sundays in Poland

I think it's the right thing.. Cashiers are also humans and deserve a day off..
@Tsukio49

@@Latvian07 my friend who worked as a cashier said it doesn't change anything because you still have to work certain hours a month, free Sunday doesn't mean less work it means you can't choose a day off and shifts are rescheduled, usually you have a day off when you choose while someone else have a shift that day. In her opinion it was a bad change for cashiers but she also is non believer so she doesn't go to church on Sundays so maybe for some it was good idk

Ad. 2. Loud behavior in public transportation is considered rude in Poland. Just because you've seen a lot of it means there are many rude Poles in public transportation. Ad. 3. I didn't mind cashless society when I was in Japan. I was prepared. What surprised me, a cafe at Nakano Station in Tokyo didn't accept cash at all - me and my wife had to pay with our IC cards (we didn't want to pay with credit cards). Ad. 5. Free sunday is a new concept in Poland. The ruling conservative party divides Polish society every time there's an opportunity. There's always a group of "good/our" people and a group of "bad/their" people. Free sundays are only for store clerks (and not all of them). Other professions (e.g. all services, restaurants) don't have free sundays. In every poll the majority didn't want free sundays for most of store clerks, but the law was implemented anyway.

I don't think there are so many pick pockets in Poland right now. There used to be many back in the communist era and the stereotypes remained, but the problem is rather gone. There are many more in Western Europe, i.e. Spain, Italy, France etc. esp. when they see that you're a tourist.

Personally I love silence in Japanese public transport. I hate - really, really hate - to listen people in Poland, who yelling and screaming during their phone conversation. For people who listen loud music in trams should be special place in the hell. In other hand, i don't like "cash culture" in Japan. It's really annoying.

Oh yes, I've once spent three hours in bus listening to a lady talking about her adventures with - probably - her every relative and friend, the same stories with every relative respectively. I'm always asking myself what's keeping me from asking those people to use a loud speaker mode, if I have to listen to those conversations I should be able to listen to the both sides and decide who i right!

You can be glad cash is still popular in Japan. When it disappears everything will be controlled and when you do something bad for the government your account will be closed and good bye your existence.
