Reverse Dyeing a Long Sleeve Geode Shirt (Using OWB)

Awesome! It is so beautiful, Angie! I don’t gravitate to these cors either, but this iis gorgeous. I made a long sleeve T to wear when I visited Bryce in similar colors. I had so many hikers complement my shirt. I nailed the colors of Bryce Canyon. I dont wear that shirt often but I love it. It reminds me of my trip. Bryce Canyon is one of the most fantastic places I've ever been.

Thank you! I've really started to embrace oranges a lot more over the past year. Orange still doesn't look great on me though, but I've had fun tie dyeing with it. Your shirt sounds really cool. I really miss posting though and hopefully I will be back at it really soon. I hope all is well with you, and I'm sure you're missing tie dye too. so pretty. Thank you!!! Did you flip it over and apply dye on the back side? or all the ice water dripping thru was sufficient? Also, why not just put the shirt in the soda ash and dye it damp with soda ash, since you are apply the soda ash throughtout the process? Thanks, very nice looking shirt

Thank you! No, I don't flip the shirt over and add more dye to the back. The melting ice forces the dye through the dry shirt. I've found that if the shirt is completely dry when I add the dye, the shirt will soak up the dye like a dry sponge and pull it down into the fabric. I don't get as good of color saturation in the middle of the fold when I dye it damp. I have a blog post that goes into more detail about this topic on my website. I don't believe Out White Brite will remove the color from synthetic fabrics. I use only 100% cotton fabric with that product. Then I use fiber reactive dyes and the items I am dyeing must be natural fiber like cotton, otherwise the dye will not stay in the shirt. To tie the lines in the shirt, I use an artificial sinew that is wax coated. The wax coating won't allow dye under the lines leaving definition lines the color of the shirt.

No, I am tie dyeing again. I actually rinsed out a shirt this morning. I took a bit of a break though to spend some time with my dad who is suffering from Alzheimer's/Dementia. I have quite a few items tied up and will hopefully get some new videos posted as soon as I'm finished with them. 🙂
