On the mazzer website, the Mini B has a new look - with a display for time adjustment, can't wait until you review that one!

You mentioned 0.6g to 0.7g for each second of grinding. That would make grinding 18g take between 26 and 30 sec. I have a modified Baratza Vario (modified, as in, I replaced the ceramic burrs with steel ones) that grinds in that same ballpark, and I thought that was too much. Looks like it's not. Do you see a lot of other espresso grinders taking that long to grind?
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 8 жыл бұрын
+ascosta We debated including the .7g reference as it is somewhat confusing. Our actual time for grinding 18 grams for a 2oz dialed in shot pulled on a Pro 700 was 15 seconds. So, why the difference in total grind time vs. the weight difference for changing grind time by 1 second. Darn good question! Our suspicion is variation of grind rate during the grinding cycle as burrs speed up and slow down during start/stop combined with other variables like push out from previous grind cycle. Can't prove any of that. Can say we were consistently grinding 18g in 15 seconds on the Mazzer dialed in for coffee and machine we were using.

if your using the same beans all the time would the grinder need must adjustment from day to day or just when you you would change bean type
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Mary, Answer is maybe. As beans age it's not unusual to make slight grind size adjustments.

say if i put a 250g bag of beans in and do about 2/3 cups of coffee a week how log should the beans last or would i be safer weighing out my beans instead of putting them all in the hopper
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 6 жыл бұрын
It depends on how particular you wan to be. Guess I"m not certain if you're doing espresso or immersion/drip brewing. For espresso, 2-3 shots a week and those 250g will last a few weeks. You will likely need to adjust grind size as the beans age. Probably best not to leave all the beans in the hopper that long regardless of brew method. Immersion brewing methods are not nearly as particular with grind size. So you can probably just leave setting as is unless you notice flavor being off.

Hi p, If you've read my comments you may be aware I'm not a huge fan of Mazzer grinders. They do a good job but IMO are a bit of a PITA to use compared to what's available today. I dislike their design with the fine internal threads of the adjustment collar exposed to coffee dust and oils. These gum up overtime and become difficult to adjust. Then you go to clean things out and I can't tell you how many times I've either vacuumed up or lost one of the 3 springs the top burr carrier rests on. That said, the Mini is commercial grade while the 270 Wi is high-end appliance grade. But the 270 Wi is brilliant! When it originally came out a few years back the weighing function could be hit or miss - that was on the 270W model. Over the past couple of years Baratza nailed the weighing function with running changes to the W and the result is the Wi. IMO the 270 Wi is currently the best appliance grade grinder for home use. Hey Marc! I found a Mazzer used the other day for $600....BUT ultimately placed an order thru you guys yesterday for the Sette 270wi. I've been wanting to purchase something thru you anyways. Looking forward to getting the grider! Shake be saving over the summer to hopefully get the Profitec 500 too. Cheers to you and the team! -Dorian

Marc, How would you compare Mazzer Mini E type A to Profitec T64. If you had to choose, which grinder are you bringing home?
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 5 жыл бұрын
Hi DW, I'd go with the Profitec Pro T64. Reasons: Mazzer 250w vs. 450w in the T64, love the worm gear grind size adjust on T64, I dislike adjusting grind size on Mazzer grinders. The fine threads in Mazzer grinders are very open to the grinding chamber. They get gummed up with coffee dust/oils and size adjustment gets stiff and jumpy. I don't like how the top burr on many Mazzer grinders ride on 3 springs which also collect coffee gunk. The T64 has an O-ring in the neck which does a good job of keeping gunk out of the threads. Hope that helps! Marc

Drool, drool, drool! I guess I need all three versions as I can't make up my mind now I've watched this! 8-P (Greed: the downfall of humanity!) I didn't know the electronic version has bigger burrs than the timer version. Little cheats! No wonder they can program the amount of coffee by setting the time. They just increase the burrs enough to make grinding a little more precise (as more beans can fit in between the burrs). I didn't know they use time to calculate the weight for that matter either - thanks for that! My main gripe with the doser version is that the chute connecting the grinding chamber with the doser is horizontal so I need to clean it every time I grind coffee. What were they thinking? I'd like to replace the doser with a funnel as I always store my ground coffee in a jar anyway and I have to deal with cleaning the doser all the time which is annoying. It's just that the doser version looks way cooler and is a big help when you make coffee for lots of people. Plus, you can fit the Mazzer tamper on it - you didn't show this aspect, which is feature in defense of the doser version. You didn't mention that the electronic version also comes in polished alu finish either! A big drool factor on its own and it helps matching the espresso machine!

@@Wholelattelovepage You're welcome! I forgot to compliment you on this excellent presentation so I'm doing it now. Very professionally done! Extra points awarded for pointing out the mains lead comes out from underneath the base of the grinder whereas in the older version it came out from a whole on the side of the case. This may or may not matter to some people. A defect of the older version in that respect is that the sleeving material of the lead deteriorates with age so it splits at the point of exit exposing the inner cables. This is not something you want if you often have to move the grinder (e.g. in order to clean the workbench) as it will eventually lead to a short. The newer version probably avoids this situation from developing. A correction to my previous post: both versions (doser and electronic) of the new version (yeah, I know, versions of the version sounds daft) come in polished ALU. Of course the greatest point about getting a Mazzer (any version) is that it's fit and forget: you no longer have to worry about which grinder to get or upgrade to in the future. (Unless of course you're someone greedy like me.) One thing I'd really like to see in the future coming out of the Mazzer factory is mini Robur/Kony. Their current conical grinder models are absolutely huge and thus unsuitable for domestic use. No doubt it would be very expensive (if something like that is feasible to construct) but very desirable!

I am planning on getting the Rocket R58. This would be my first machine. For the grinder would you recommend a cheaper model?, then possible spend more $$ at a later date to upgrade. Or just dive in and spend the money a higher end model. For me I would say that this would my first and last purchase, you get what you pay for ?...right. Thanks,Dave
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 7 жыл бұрын
Hi cougar, You do get what you pay for. With a machine like the R58 which sits in the prosumer class, I'd recommend a prosumer level stepless grinder. Many people love their Mazzer grinders. I think one of the best value grinders with specs comparable or better than the Mazzers are Ceado's E5P and E6P. The E5P is less than half the price of the Mazzer mini-electronic but has same burr size and a slightly more powerful motor. here's a link to a spec comparison of the E5P, E6P and Mazzer Mini Type A: www.wholelattelove.com/product_comparisons/show?products%5B%5D=ceado-e5p-electronic-coffee-grinder&products%5B%5D=ceado-e6-p-electronic-dosing-burr-grinder&products%5B%5D=mazzer-mini-electronic-type-a-coffee-grinder You can see the E5P in action here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f6p_bJl0y6zXp6s.html Hope this helps.
