Ketiv (written) & Qere (spoken): A excellent example of how both the written and spoken traditions are equally valid is the instance of 1 Kings 7:23. The Peshat (plain meaning) says that Solomon is constructing a pool which is 10 cubits across and 30 cubits around (30/10=3.000). This is not possible mathematically if it is circular. We know the Mikra (scripture) is accurate, so we go to the Remez (allegoric meaning) for a more detailed investigation. It says "a 30 cubit line (qavah) could encircle it." The Hebrew word "qavah" is a Ketiv word, so it is written but not spoken. Instead we read "qav" which is the Qere tradition. If we take the gematria value of the ratio of qavah/qav (111/106) multiplied by the original ratio (30/10) we get 3.14151. Scripture is presenting to us one of the most accurate approximations of the geometric ratio Pi with denominators less than 30,000 when we consider the Ketiv and Qere together at the Remez level. (Pi is a ratio but it cannot be expressed exactly as a ratio of two integers.)

Thank you so much for this video. I've been reading a Tanakh that is called Torah for Family Reading. I do like this version, but I decided to do a little research on what was available. At one time I had quite old versions from the old Jewish Publishing House that was on Delancey St. and I estimate they were printed in the 40's or 50's and they had Hebrew/English like these and there were also prayer books. It was a library that was closing down and as my study was not as serious as it is now, I made the mistake of my life and left those books behind that someone had been collecting for me for my interest. It still pains me. Upon my updated research I did hear this version mentioned and the one I have now is a soft cover and has suffered three moves and is just a little beat up so I'm in the market for a new Tanakh and I think you have helped me make my decision. Thank you and Shalom.

Reese housman I hear you Mr Housman and am not surprised at your response. I was taken aback in much the same way by "adonai" and "ha shem"... For those not aware we are speaking in reference to the English translation found in this version of Tanach. It is horrible as it lends it's self to the common narrative of most bibles of today. I do not think this is a bad thing as it reminds the reader that might be trusting in the translation a little too much, that trusting in the translation is not where to find Yahuah's Truth as in the interpretation of another man / men is not Truth. I can live with a poor translation, because I seldom use it except to find my place in scripture then I seek Yahuah's Truth from the well preserved and accurate to the very letter Hebrew text. A good translation just might lead people to rely too heavily upon it, instead of the original Hebrew text. I see it as great foresight from the Father Yahuah as he wants us to glean his Truth and not that of another. It makes me think of something like pepper sauce on your pacifier, to help you to put it away and to learn how to live without it and how to walk in Yahuah's Truth of his Hebrew Word. So discern from the Hebrew and one day you will be able to read without any translation at all. This is where the Father Yahuah wants his people to be and this is how we become Echad with Him by being of one language, his language and in so doing, we can gain his concrete understanding in practical concepts as he teaches us his ways and how to apply them to our lives. Shalom Belum ShaTuppim I have a very specific question about this edition of the Tanakh and I don't know if I should simply leave a comment here or private message you. My question is regarding Genesis Chapter 22:2. I wanted to know the exact wording that the Stone edition reads in English for that Chapter and verse? I ask this because this is the defining reason to whether or not I will buy another Tanakh lol. If I cannot see that chapter and verse before buying it, then I don't buy it. Unfortunately, I cannot see that chapter or verse on amazon.com or any other online retailer for that matter. I would sincerely appreciate it if you answer as I have absolutely no other way to find out. Toda Raba!

I have a question. Looking at the Artscroll Tanach I received earlier today, there are many asterisks (*) throughout the English translation portion. For instance, in Genesis 1:1, there is an asterisk located after the phrase, “In the beginning of God’s creating * the heavens and the earth”. Would you be so kind as to let me know what that asterisk means and where I could find in the Tanach it’s explanation if there is one. Thank you!

Hello BelumShaTuppim! Would the Jewish people be offended if I say that I would like to buy a Tanach in order to understand and learn things about the Jewish religion? Not only as a material for studying but also for considering converting to the Jewish religion, would this book help me to make that choice? /Sebastian from Sweden.

The Greatest Story Ever Told Retold The Father never called his pure language and clean lip "hebrew" if he never changes then his language can not be "hebrew" as there are at least five different versions: Paleo, Babylonian, Aramaic, modern Hebrew and even a "biblical version". It would be better to know the Father Yahuah as he is, to learn his Pure / Clean Lip, to seek his pure understanding in the most pure form. The only thing "hebrew" about this version of Tanak is the Babylonian "font" which word for word and letter for letter has the exact same meaning. It is as if one were to transcribe cursive into print. All additions and substitutions are clearly marked so therefore easily dismissed. There is no need to learn "hebrew" but it would be very wise to know Yahuah... I have many resources which can get you goin on the right track (straight and narrow path): (see the resources at the bottom) docs.google.com/document/d/1vGObp8W1ngf1ZxPQ6kraT-MHCrvzFXfWS2jKFRy6i_4/edit?usp=sharing

The Stone Edition is too often slanted away from a literal rendering of the Miqra's text and into Rabbinic interpretations. It heavily relies on the "oral" torah in its translation. Ergo, anybody who desires the best bang for their buck should steer clear of the Artscroll Stone Edition. I recommend Everett Fox's Schocken Edition vol.1 & vol.2 + the Koren Edition.

Sir. If you read the Torah, Neviim & Ketuvim, you will see that it says not to add or take anything away from it, etc. Look in Devarim. Also, the Name. The creator revealed to Moshe in Shemot , is The Name that should not be removed or titles substituted for it in Translations. Also throughout the Tanak. You will read where it says to call upon his name! Tradition will get you nowhere. The truth of the Torah will be what matters. I wish you the best in your studies. Read and study the Law and the Prophets that will teach you the Fathers Truth. Not man's Traditions. Shalom.

There are two Messiahs: a priestly one who is the High Priest and a kingly one who is a righteous descendant of King Dawid. Any other beliefs e.g. linking Geesucks to Judaism or merely the Miqra are idolatry and fake.

The Dead Sea Scrolls were written long after the Hebrew bible was already canonized. The cult that was headquartered in the caves of Qumran were not mainstream Judaism. They were a weird cult of males only without wives, living a monastic lifestyle. That is why they died out and no longer exist. They did not accept the book of Esther in their collection of scrolls.
