Great review, would love your advice on which level to choose. My son completed the Island level in 4th but switched curriculum the next year. Should we use Town or Voyage for 6th?

That’s a good question. It depends on how much he understands or remembers from the island level. It might be a good idea to choose a couple of books from the voyager level and a couple of the other ones from the town level, but I know it can be tricky to pick and choose when the Royal Fireworks site tends to sell levels as a full set. See if you can get a used copy of Grammar town, and a used copy of one of the Voyager level books and do a comparison. You can also view a few sample pages from every single one of the books online to decide which level is most appropriate for him.

thanks so much for the reviews of the different levels. My 10 and 12 year old girls will start with MCT. They studied grammar in France (both are bilingual) good readers, good casual writers, but need more foundations in grammar and paragraphs. Would you recommend them to start with Level 2 or Level 3? Thanks so much for guiding parents!

Both levels teach the same foundations, but the Voyager level (level 3) might be best because it has more to offer and is less juvenile. I use level two for one of my 12 year old students as support, but I skip some of the easier sections that she already knows. Level three would provide more without being too overwhelming, I believe. Let me know if I can be of any more help. Thank you for watching!

@@JPEZTutoring Oh thanks so much for your prompt answer! That makes totally sense I truly appreciate. I think Level 3 it will be then for both girls :) Keep shining!

Thank you for the review. Are these books level 1?

Hi! The books shown at the beginning of the video are Level 2, and the other set is level 5.

Does the writing curriculum give writing assignments or simply analyzing examples?
@JPEZTutoring3 жыл бұрын
The Advanced Writing Book, which I use with Level 5, has four MLA paper assignments. These can be modified by the instructor, however. For example, the first one says, "Your essay will develop an interpretative idea about a work of fiction. This work may be a novel, a play, or short story..." For my students, I helped them come up with specific topics based on a novel that they read. Overall, the assignments aren't just following a prompt. Instead, they are more open-ended. However, the Word Within the Word book has plenty of great questions that could be turned into essay responses.

Hi, my children are young (7 and younger) but I am considering starting the MCT for the age appropriate level in the next couple of years and was wondering how long a lesson takes, either for younger years or just the years you are discussing in this video? I might’ve missed it, but when it’s not in conjunction to older literature like Peter Pan, would you consider this a teacher-intensive curriculum? It seems like it is but I wanted to ask just in case. Thank you.

Great question. You may make your lessons as long as you want to, although mine are always one hour long. I believe the online courses for MCT are also one hour long. When I first began using MCT, I did a lot of prep work, such as making charts with the stems and creating quizzes for my students. I even studied the grammar more deeply. However, now it doesn’t take too much time. I find that the grammar (mastering the 8 parts of speech, phrases, clauses, and types of sentences) takes the most amount of days simply because I want students to fully grasp it rather than just go over it once and move on. It’s definitely a curriculum that requires an adult to guide students, but it’s so thorough that I believe it’s worth your time.

This is the exact guidance students need when it comes to reading different books for English. I am sure your guidance, suggestions and experience of dealing with these books will help students and parents make the right decisions. Great content.

Thank you! Choosing the right books depends on the family and the student. I’ve heard that many homeschooling parents will mix and match; there is no set rule for using a particular curriculum. That’s the beauty of a homeschool environment 😄
