I just adopted a used one very inexpensively. Your wing nut tip made me feel better about the weird wooden ends that were included. I'm going to swap out. Thanks!

Hi Michelle, greetings from Connecticut, USA, and thank you so much for this! I have the 24" wide Ashford standing tapestry loom and am just now learning to use it. Love the rotating feature for easy warping.

@@ThreefoldDesigns I was at Webs, the yarn store in Northampton, Massachusetts, a few years back when I spotted this loom for sale. It was the very last one available---the floor model, as it happens, but in great condition. It has sat in my living room exhibiting tremendous patience until now. I am really enjoying learning tapestry thanks to your lessons and those of others.

I was just given one this past year- a smaller Ashford. Used ones are out there! Mine was unwanted and stored outside, not well protected. It required cleaning and some wood filler but it is back together and sound. I was eager to get it fixed so I stained it with a dark stain I had on hand because of the water damage and am sorry. I like the natural look of the ashford looms.

Oh yes, the great thing about Ashfords is that if you ever want to upgrade, it's very easy to sell your old one! Is it a table loom?

@@ThreefoldDesigns No, a small upright like yours. I wanted to start small warping onto two dowels and then tensioning them onto the frame- like a Navajo loom. But just rotating the whole frame looks so much easier!! Ashford products never disappoint. I have an new Ashford Rigid Heddle loom and a 30 year old Ashford spinning wheel . Love them!

I just spotted this. I love my Ashford loom too. I have the smaller one and bought it second hand. No leases either but I tie my warp on from top to bottom. I have more control of the warp tension this way. Nice video. Thanks.

Thank you for this vlog. I have the large Ashford loom, and have been putting off warping it up, still just using my smaller looms. Having seen this, I feel I want to get it warped up now and to get weaving, as I have the yarn and design plan ready.

@@ThreefoldDesigns Hi Michelle. I am very interested in seeing the 'weaving the hem', so will look out for that. I am an Ashford fan too! Do you mark the loom with pencil for you wpi's, or use tape? I am present hunting down the smaller loom you showed in the vlog, not sure how lucky I will be.

Great review. I saw that you have put your EPI at the top in pencil, do you find that the warp threads move out of place? Im thinking of buying one that is continuous, so if i were to slide it down and round the bars, it may slide out of place. I find it weird that there's no reed or indents to keep the distance right on these looms. what do you think? x thanks
@ThreefoldDesigns
@ThreefoldDesigns 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Phoebe! I find that once the loom has been warped up and the hem is in place, it doesn't matter if the warp threads move, as the tension of the tapestry is enough to keep everything in place. Does that make sense? :) I did previously use a Mirrix with the springs that keep the warp spacing even, but I found the tension was so bad that it wasn't an advantage anyway ...

Hi Michelle, Me again! Well, I have finally warped up my large Ashford loom - hurrah! (after it sitting there for three years waiting for me to get started!) Do you do the twinning before or after you tighten the tension? Hope you don't mind me asking you.
@ThreefoldDesigns
@ThreefoldDesigns 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Vanessa! Well done, that's awesome!! When I warp up, I try to do it as firmly as possible, as I don't actually tighten the tension unless I absolutely have to (or during the weaving process) - does that make sense? I love questions, keep them coming! 😁
@vanessaisom8620
@vanessaisom8620 3 жыл бұрын
@@ThreefoldDesigns Thank you Michelle for your prompt reply, that's so helpful and it makes perfect sense. I did tighten the tension a little, but the twinning was tough to do and I ran out of time to finish it, so I think when I go back to it this afternoon, I will loosen the tension and start the twinning again. I am so glad I found your vlogs, I like how you encourage to find our own paths and methods to weave. I had read so many books on weaving, and watched so many vlogs, all saying different ways, I was totally overwhelmed. This year I have decided to push my comfort zone, and just weave! Thanks again Michelle.

I just found you when I searched for someone using an Ashford tapestry loom! There is no one else! I love your channel! I wonder, is it possible to use a warping bar to create a circular warp that can be moved around the frame? Watching your time lapses it does seem as if the top ends of your work require you to really work high above your chest. I know that "other brand" can be warped that way and I would much rather get this simpler sort of loom if I can extend the length of the warp. It also mystifies me how you finger pick your sheds accurately without using leashes?

Hello and welcome! Yes, I have heard that you can make a continuous warp with this loom with some fiddling - someone sent me her instructions - I haven't tried it, as I have had no need for a continuous warp yet, but feel free to get in touch via my website (www.threefolddesigns.com.au) and I can send them to you :) I love picking the warps instead of using leashes - I don't know why, I just love getting my hands in there, and didn't enjoy using leashes when I was learning!! :)

I am a beginner Tapestry weaver. I haven´t bought this loom yet, but perhaps I would like to buy this. The only reason I haven´t done that is, that the weaving length is very short. My new loom should be able to weave Tapestry and rugs. Actually I am weaving on a Mateo Salusso Quadro Loom. There is a method to have a double length of the warp. The same technic you can see on the new Arras Loom. Perhaps it is possible to handle this technic of warping the loom on the Ashford Tapestry Loom. What do you think about this? Is is possible? The next point are the heddles. If you work with this on the Ashford loom you can make only one shaft. If I make Tapestry with longer weft section I find this bad. The mirrix loom has sheeds you can turn to create 2 shafts. Is ii possible to make 2 Rod Clamp on each side like the Schacht Tapestry Loom which has 4 on each side? My dream is a loom with 2 shafts, 100 cm weaving wide, 150 cm weaving length and it should be have all the things , that the Ashford Tapestry Loom has. 😉 Perhaps you can answer my questions. Best wishes from Germany, Bettina - Sorry for my bad English. I hope you understand all I want to say to you.

Oh hello, I'd love to visit Germany one day - your English is excellent! You sound like you are looking for one of those fancy looms, the ones that you can make bigger tapestries, and that wrap around the bottom beam (like a floor loom). Rebecca Mezoff did a great blog post which you may enjoy: rebeccamezoff.com/blog/2015/02/which-tapestry-loom-is-right-for-me_13.html Yes, the Ashford loom has the option for adding leashes, but that's it in terms of shedding device. You could also contact Ashford, as they are very responsive to questions about their looms ... there may be a 'hack' that could be done to make it more in line with what you are after?
