What a timely message! I am still trying to find my tapestry "voice" and I have a number of small looms warped up, many with half finished training exercises on them. I've been struggling with the voice that says that I can't start anything fun until I've finished what I've started, but the result of listening to that voice is that I'm not working on any of them. You've inspired me to just cut them off and start over with something else that really speaks to me! Thanks for sharing all the parts of your journey. :)
@noelnicholls362219 күн бұрын
Yes, I have unwoven tapestries, but they have only been small ones so it has been “easy” to do. The remake has always been a more interesting creation. Thank you Michelle for another affirming offering.

Thank you so much for this, Michelle. Your timing is immaculate, on several counts. I had hand surgery 10 days ago. The stitches come out today, so I shall be able to get back to crafting very soon. Reduction of physical pain will be so helpful in coping with the social demands of autism at craft clubs, etc. Keep going 💐

Thanks for taking us on your creative journey once again with full honesty. It happens all the time to me too. It’s quite tough sometimes to decide to stop and try an alternative but in the end it makes it all the better. When something’s off let’s address it and move on. I’m crocheting a skirt for my mom and I know I need to frog it. Not happy with the fabric it’s making. Many hugs

Do you ever use cotton, like 8/2 or 10/2?
@ThreefoldDesigns27 күн бұрын
Hi! I don't use cotton for tapestry weaving, only for handweaving! I don't feel like it has enough structure for me - but doesn't mean you can't experiment with it! (though I would recommend mixing it with a fibre with more structure)

Aww, thanks for your kind comments! Well, I AM sitting there, chatting with friends, you know? :) I don't use as many tools as most tapestry weavers - just one bobbin to beat the weft :)

"Here's a hint!" INKLE LOOM in large letters. I wish I knew what happened to my late mother's inkle loom (I think she made it herself). Given away before a move? Stolen? I'm definitely tempted by inkle looms, there are a lot of applications for woven bands, so they're not just "toy" looms. As I understand it (correct me if I'm wrong) you can also do card weaving on them, which opens up a whole new world of possibilities.

Haha, well, I'm not known for being subtle! Yes, I've seen card weaving - looks scary though! Maybe I'll try that out some time too :)

Love your videos! I am on a mission to buy yarn (live in NZ). A lot of online weaving shops seem to carry a lot of cotton for weft yarn. I know knitting yarn is no good, so is cotton ok?
@ThreefoldDesignsАй бұрын
Thank you!! I personally prefer 'rough' wool for tapestry weaving (I have done a video about what I use) - at the moment I am using Isager Spinni from Sunspun, but I'm sure you can find something similar in NZ! I also add one strand of linen, as I like my tapestries to be quite stiff 😉
@rachelratten6832Ай бұрын
@@ThreefoldDesigns thank you! I watched your video about what you put in your strands. I was getting a bit confused about all the cotton yarn that is mentioned everywhere 🤣I actually live quite close to the Ashford store, so need to go on a road trip…
@ThreefoldDesignsАй бұрын
@@rachelratten6832 Yeah, I don't know if Ashford sell any wool suitable for tapestry, but you could give them a go! I use cotton for everything *but* tapestry, haha!
