#nicksreview This is a review of Nick's Overlander in 1964 rough out leather. I have never done a boot review so I wanted to put forth a decent effort and showcase what these boots will be put to work doing on the homestead.

I got the overlanders in smooth out leather for Christmas. I absolutely love them. Nicks boots are the best there is by far.

I ordered those a few weeks ago, can't wait for them to arrive.

Great review. I own a pair of Nick's Overlanders in Chocolate work leather ( yeah ,they were kind enough to make them for me) and I can definitely relate to your experience with the boots. Most comprehensive review I've seen in a while . Thank you

thanks for this video, I loved your honest clear review, and its helped me decided on this boot, ive never had a handmade boot and nothing at this price range but I work an 8-18 hour day in the touring music biz and on my feet in every kind of condition, so this is what I need. living in nz its a far away place to get the wrong boot so this helped me endlessly as I look through the nicks site trying to work out what I need and what suits my workalike. keep up the great work.

Those look so awesome. I actually prefer the ND 1 look from his videos (no Nick’s for me yet) compared to the new 2 or his white’s collab. Congrats on getting on the preorder list for those

Great review! Thanks for posting this. Seems like the Overlander is perfect for what you need. I am in love with the overlander, but am worried about that tongue as well. I have a fairly high arch and a high instep. Getting in and out of my cowboy boots, for instance, can be a real pain (literally). I'm tempted to just go with an Urban Drifter which is essentially a 6" overlander.

Dude thank you! I’ve been looking for reviews of Nicks by real men. The overwhelming majority of reviews are from hipsters with like 100 pairs of boots. I need reviews from people who actually use their boots as intended.

Lol. If this ain’t the truth I don’t know what is.

Would that happen to be by the likes of Stridewise per chance?

Yeah, many young folks will buy this with daddy's money and never wear the boot to its actual purpose-built potential. I want a pair that can do it all for 10 years with one or two resoles over that time....not party shoes to show off. In a decade I wont be doing any outdoor work anymore...hell I may not even be here. Then my kids can fight over them. lol

I have a boot on order right now with Nick‘s. The new 8 inch moctoe in 1964. The only thing that sucks now is that NIcks really doesn’t do a custom fit boot. They will send you a Tryon pair but that’s pretty much the extent of it. So that said I still can’t wait to get my boots and get them broken in to see exactly how comfortable they really are.
@bobsmith-ji2uh Жыл бұрын
Are you sure? I got a custom fit boot just a year ago.

How are these handling all the shoveling that you mentioned with the leather shank? I’ve heard mixed things about the pnw style boots and shoveling tasks especially with the leather stack heal wearing out from the spade metal. Great real world review. Thanks

One of the comments you made had to do with the size. Most shoe/boot companies make the product in China. The Chinese use a different last and slightly different shoe sizing chart. It is not American standardized sizing. That is why most consumer based shoe/boot products are smaller. A perfect example is Alden. They use American standard sizing. I am a 12 D shoe and their shoes fit me perfectly. However, if I try a different shoe from China I need a 13 D or E. The sizing varies greatly. The good news is they told you you’d fit their boot in an 8 and it fit perfectly over time as you broke them in. The boots look fantastic.

I received my overlander boots in oct also. The break in has been real tough on my right heal. Where your heal goes against the back healcup of the boot. Tried massaging, oiling, rubbing the inside of the healcup with dowel. To this day still healcup pain after 6-8 hours of wear. Kinda at a loss. Any suggestions would be great. The left foot is perfect. Weird.

Look into a boot / shoe stretcher. They’re on Amazon and Walmart

I have had my eye on the builder pro logger heel with 1964 smooth up top and roughout bottom. Thanks for doing this and helping me make a rather expensive choice in a more knowledgeable way. Cheers!

I might have missed it in the video, how long was the order process from start to finish? I’m 26 weeks into a Nick’s order that should arrive next week or the week after.

Did you get a soft toe? Thinking of getting a tan roughout pair. I've got a pair of the travelers ordered but they are smooth veg tan so i want a true work boot.
@FireFlowerFarmstead2 жыл бұрын
I got soft toe..I actually asked for a toe cap but they said go for it if you want but gave me a lot of good reasons not to bother. Doesn't really make much of a difference in strength unless you are crawling around on your knees a lot it might save the toes.

Depends on your trade. I think if I was on a concrete floor all day every day I would want something with a wedge sole. They definitely make wedge boots as well.
@spaldingpickers1202 жыл бұрын
Yes as atrus sad, wedge or get a pair with “honey vibram sole” it’s a slightly softer sole. They will wear a little quicker but are many peoples favorites.

why people, when they make a great boots like that, stick to the crappy vibram sole? I mean go out in the mug (remember, those are boots made for outside jobs!) and they will be clogged in 3 minutes.
